Does Twilight come from a wealthy family?

I would like to think so.

Twilight and her family lived/ are from Canterlot which is basically the capitol of Equestria due to being where the Princesses reside.

Due to Rarity's strong desire to get a shop in the city and become a part of it's high society and I would assume that the city itself is very prestigious because of that.

So from assuming that the city is expensive to live with and the fact Twilight was able to get into a private school where she learned from the freaking ruler of all of Equestria I am pretty sure it would make logical sense for Twilight to come from at least an upper middle class family. After Twilight became a princess and Shining Armor became a prince and ruler of an entire kingdom who knows how much money the family has nowadays.

I always knew the Twilights had to be wealthy. Canterlot itself is populated mostly by high society. No common folk ever gets to rub shoulders with the power elite.

 

I doubt there would be a city of just rich folks, cities just don't work like that.

That's not what I'm implying. I'm implying that they have to be rich considering that Twilight gets to meet Princess Celestia and go to a prestigious school at such a young age. I should have worded it to make that more obvious.

I believe Twilight comes from well to do family with some serious connections in Canterlot, perhaps even from a lower aristocracy household. Just because one is well off does not mean one is spoiled or rotten, and her background may have afforded her opportunities that she might not have had had she come from an impoverished family. The fact they were able to get Princess Cadence as baby sitter suggests the family might have notable influence.

 

Twilight did work as a librarian while staying in Ponyville for her studies,so it is a false claim that she did not have to work make a living though I suspect she had some kind of scholarship or grant from Celestia to support her in those days. That said she may be probably the wealthiest of her friends now as most of Rarity's and Applejack's money may be invested in running their businesses, and being a princess may come with a hefty pay raise.

In my heart and headcanon, Twilight's family is rolling in bits!

Don't forget. Twilight's parents enrolled her in a very exclusive school BEFORE Princess Celestia decided to personally oversee Twilight's magical education. They live in Canterlot, which judging by the ponies that live there, has an extremely high cost of living. Minor point. They could afford to pay a PRINCESS to foal-sit for them! Even now, as a princess, Twilight just chooses to live modestly. Her being a librarian was mentioned.

Twilight dearly loves books. She might not have even considered living in and running the library as work. To her, it was probably restful relaxation all day long.

And her babysitter was a princess that her brother, the Captain of the Royal Guard, married. Sweet and Elite suggests that knowing somebody who just has access to the castle is a big deal among the Oligarchy. Even if they're not super-wealthy they are at least very influential.

From what I saw of her house in the IDW comics I'd say her parents are fairly well off if not wealthy. You also have to admire parents who have a son who married into royalty and a daughter who ascended into it.

I would say so. Her parents could afford for her to attend Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns, and they live in Canterlot, which is full of wealthy ponies.

I'd say that is it safe to assume that they are wealthy; or at least upper middle class. Of course it's hard to tell how the Equestrian system of education work works, so I don't know if it can be readily assumed that you have to pay big to attend Celestia's school.

 

In any case Twilight had that fairly sizeable home in the pilot episode, and it looks like her parents were at least up there in wealth when we saw their home in the "Neigh Anything" arc of the comics.

It's kinda hard to say on this one. There isn't exactly a such thing as a poor family in Equestria. Everyone seems pretty well off.

It's largely assumed that while she does not write the Daring Do books, she still writes because it's assumed that the "Daring Do Award" is an award for authorship.

 

Whether or not that is the truth is debateable, of course.

I'm assuming her family is pretty well off since she lived in Canterlot as a filly, has a prince for a brother, and doesn't have an actual job but still seems to support herself fine. Even if she's not rich, she most certainly isn't poor.
