Will season 5 be a "breather season"?

By which I mean, season 4 had some rather intense moments. (the Chimera in Somepony to Watch Over me, the Ahuizotl battle in Daring Don't, and ESPECIALLY the battle with Centaurface Mcugly Tirek, to name 3) So do you think season 5 will be more relaxed and upbeat as a sort of breather after such an intense season?

There is that possibility, as Season 4 had a lot riding on it (Princess Twilight character arc, Equestria Games arc) that was built up to in Season 3, plus the Rainbow Power/keys arc that was opened in the season premiere. For that reason, I'd reserve judgment on that until the season premiere, if they do open anything there.

They may take the next steps to World Building since they have the new mission so to speak. I do see them trying for a balance between that and the SOL stories. I actually hope S5 ends with an episode like Best Day Ever. Simple, low stakes, character driven.

ALSO ... GENERAL SPOILER'S BELOW

One episode written my MA Larson will be serious with no jokes. It was the hardest script for him to write.
MA Larson at MLP-MSP, so who knows what the hell that means. Since the gut is a troll at times.

Except the finale, I didn't find the season 4 more intense than the others. The season 1 had the hydra, the season 2 had Lesson Zero, giant Spike and evil Fluttershy, and the season 3 had the Timberwolves.

Yeah, I'll try and find the Panel video and send it in a message with the timestamp ... it was the Writers vs. Actors Panel at MLP-MSP and someone asked MA Larson about the most difficult episode he had to write ... that was his answer.

I hope so, personally I'm hoping for season 5 to be a little more down-to-earth and not rely on grand battles and spectacles, especially in regards to the opening and finale

I understand your motivation and I can partly agree with it. But on the other hand, there are tons of interesting storylines that aren't worked out yet. I'm sure season 5 will have some unexpected plots :)

Does any of that really compare to a giant underground worm that couldn't simply be taken down a throwing a pebble down its throat and can go as far as getting Discord sick?  Or some Aztec asshole who tried to overheat a whole ecosystem?

In my opinion, yes. It's maybe just a matter of point of view.

I hope not! The show's just getting good.  Season 4 drew me into mlp to begin with, and I'm eagerly awaiting more fun! I really hope they try and tackle some deeper morals and I'm hoping for more development when it comes to Luna.

Luna, as depicted in every other cannon series (The comics, and journal of the two sisters to name a few) is a whole lot of fun! There's a reason ships between her and Pinkie Pie is rising in popularity. She's interesting spontaneous and just pure awesome!

Also I'm hoping for some more in depth and controversial morals. (Gay rights anypony?)  ;)  I don't want next season to be fluffy puffy nd happy go lucky ALL the time. That would be no fun.

Plus, it would be cool if we could observe the action scenes growing in intensity season by season. I hope that happens too.

Well, I haven't seen all of S4 yet to be honest, but if S4 was a bit more adventurous(Which so far it has seemed to be) then it's possible there may be a few more relaxed or slice of life kind of episodes thrown in to S5.

That said i'm sure there will still be adventure, it's kind of hard to say really.

As long as it's an enjoyable season, I'm ok with it being either way ;p.

There were episodes prior to Season 4 that had anti-climaxes, something Season 4 lacked.  Seriously, I doubt that with the exception of Cerberus, any of the dangerous creatures, such as the Timberwolves would stand no chance up against things like the tatzlwurm or ahuiztol.

I think they will have a lot of housekeeping to take care of with setting Twilight's new kingdom in order and establishing the new roles of the mane 7 as Equestria's official friendship committee. So there will be some lower stakes episodes in the beginning. But once they start travelling around Equestria the stakes could get higher. I'm not sure that this will make for a full season tension build to something big though, because going from place to place will mean starting from square one for tension with each new setting.

I think it might be slow early on (or not, if the writers continue to show good judgement and skill). I think we may see a lot of traveling this season. So whether they go for intense and dramatic conflicts remains to be seen. I doubt they will make it a lowkey season. I expect plenty of action and adventure
