gaming Does anybody else hate fanboyism?

I'm gonna be honest, I kind of miss the days when there were a ton of options on the market you could choose from with some generally accepted poor choices.

OMG CD-ROM ALL UP IN THIS BIATCH, BUY IT NOW! DO IT. IT'S EDUTAINMENT, YOUR KIDS WILL LOVE IT AND YOU WILL LOVE IT TOO. COMIC SANS!

Now it's just a matter of what game you want to play, and there's something for everybody, plus console ports... it's all... safe. Kinda boring if you ask me.

If you have less money and can't buy two, then that's you if you want to

Our consoles are shared with our family so yeah

Fair point. But even with sufficient money, why limit the amount of games you can have?

The only fanboys I really really really don't like are the "PC Master Race" fanboys :/

Agreed. There's no such thing as a master race when it comes to videogames. To be fair though, console fanboys can be pretty bad, but then again, PC fanboys make them look like saints. I love videogames, and have since childhood, and have enjoyed discussing videogames on forums since my last year of highschool(I was a little late to the party). Playstation.com was a great place for gaming discussion once. Now I'm ashamed to admit that I've been a Playstation MVP for over six years. It's not a good place for discussion anymore, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Another forum I used to frequent has been hijacked by PC gamers. It's becoming harder and harder to find a place on the Internet for videogame discussion that isn't a troll den. This forum is a much better place for respectful discussion, but then again, it's about one series, so there isn't so much X vs. Y here, and when there is, it's usually in the context of a friendly poll.

I'm going to play the adjective game and say I'm not really fond of rabid fanboyism.   I'm not against fanboyism (I'm a fanboy on a number of things), I just don't like the ones who like to act rabid and must feel the need to act superior or arrogant towards others, (and that's developed from people having a mentality of "it's us vs. them").

The only kind of fanboyism I don't understand is console fanboyism. As far as I'm concerned the console is irrelevant and the games are what matters.

The same goes for console vs PC. Which one you use is ultimately irrelevant. The game will run sufficiently on either. The only reason I prefer consoles myself is it's easier to use them. You put a game in, you turn it on, it works. If it doesn't, it's probably the game itself that's the problem. If a game doesn't work on PC it could be a million and one different problems ranging from the PC's hardware to it's software or compatibility between the game and the operating system you're using. The ease of use of consoles is where it's at for me but I still use PC for all the older games that I can't get on console anymore or never could.

Plus the Xbox vs Playstation wars don't make sense. Super Nintendo vs Genesis did because they had libraries so massively different you could brag about having certain types of games or franchises. In the Xbox and Playstation wars it's just...a 0.1% increase in specs and maybe ten to fifteen games worth bragging about because they share everything else. I really wish they would go back to having 90% exclusives and sharing only a few games as opposed to sharing every game ever (making the decision to get one or the other a moot point) and having only a few reasons to get one over the other.

I'm an elitist for banter at school between a couple friends. We just argue about which console is better for fun between xbox and playstation.

But the real stuff is annoying a lot of the time.

Honestly, I don't prefer Xbox or PlayStation....Nintendo all the way....(Probably because all I can afford is a Wii and an ancient DS ;-; Pathetic...)

But I have a group of close friends who are always fighting about it. When they get really heated, I just leave with my bff and go eat something >w<

I really get annoyed...

But if we're talking about fan-GIRL-ism....*shivers*

Do i like fanboy/girl/other-ism? Well i don't mind if someone is like a MASSIVE Playstation, Naughty Dog, Nvidia,Intel all that Etc fan, i'm totally cool with that, i'm a big derpy fangirl myself :].

I dislike the "master race" mentality, or just generally Elitism

Why the heck should someone be considered freaking lesser cause they ethier game on a console or they like another cartoon Or play a paticular video game or use a Computer part of a different brand to yours, that mentality freaking sucks man and people that go around putting others down for that really need to look at themself in the mirror, or maybe be put through it.

I have a Intel CPU PC, does that make me better than my friends with AMD CPU PC? Absolutely freaking not, I'd recomend in my opinion would be the best option not the AMD or Intel Option,

I own a PS3, does it make me better than a person that owns a wii or a SNES or CDI, no way.

I love Pokemon, does that make me better than someone that loves digimon, No way

(I do love digimon too <3)

Simple as.

Judging from a concerning amount of YouTube comments, apparently many people want to stay loyal to one company.

genericgamer01: Hey, the new Smash Bros. is finally out! Wanna come over and play?

ms_4_lief18354: omgwtfalskdfj y r u playign on a shitty nintendo systim!!!!1 nintendo is 4 babbies. wtf happend 2 u man???/

genericgamer01: Whoa, what did I do?

ms_4_lief18354: u traitored microsoft. u not mai frend nemoar.

genericgamer01: Dude, it's just a game! So what if it's not on Xbox? What, did Nintendo kill your parents, or something?

ms_4_lief18354: So, what's it going to be, genericgamer01? Loyalty to your new game, or loyalty to me? The Wii U, or our old friendship? Nintendo, or Microsoft? Once you have loyalty to the end, there's no point in believing in anything. The only thing we can believe in with absolute certainty, is one company, genericgamer01.

genericgamer01: Why do you suddenly have better grammar!? What is going on!?

My mindset is basically this: Enjoy the game whether one platform has better fps or graphics, because it's a game and it's meant to be fun regardless of platform. It's all a matter of opinion. Plus, I can't really say that Xbox > PS4 because I've never HAD a PS4. I've had a PS2 but I just prefer Xbox overall.

Each platform has it's advantages:

PC: Specs, fps, game library (Steam)

PS4: free multiplayer, Dualshock

Xbox: exclusives, game library (Consoles)

This is all a matter of opinion so add or subtract as you like :)

PS4 needs PS+ to play online.

I'm a fanboy for many things. Yes I harbor some bad feelings toward Microsoft and other major companies in the industry for the things that they've done. For example: The EA of today can fuck right off.

Pretty much. I made an entire rant blog post about my dislike towards it. :P There is a difference between fanboyism and being a loyalist. A loyalist can enjoy a specific thing or brand and doesn't care about what others enjoy, they let it be. That's what gaming (linking this to gaming but this applies elsewhere) is about, fun, joy, experiencing something good. Being at each other's throats for enjoying a certain console, PC, Tiger handheld game or whatever takes the fun out of it really fast.

"hate" is a big word but I definitely dislike it, when someone adores a celebrity or anybody to the point, where even if that person does something really bad a fanboy still says that was a good thing. I saw it happening, mostly with Bieber and random polish celebrities and every time I see it I rant a lot in private about how stupid some people are.

I mean, if someone for example calls one of his fans "a whale" then that person deserves bashing and heavy criticism, not praise ><

People argue about this because they are biased towards a certain console, and they say so, someone disagrees, and then, as no one likes being wrong, they both try to prove their way is best.

So much easier to just disagree and move on to more important subjects ( like ponies :P )
