gaming How do you game in Fallout 3/NV?

I am going back to Fallout 3 after not playing it since 2009. I played New Vegas when it was new and I never beat the game at all. I have beaten Fallout 3, but never 100% the game. I am playing the GOTY on PC since I am tired of buying new disc. No joke, me and my brother played this so much on the 360, that our base game from 2008 was destroyed and we went through 3 GOTY disc. So that's 4 Fallout 3s I have owned.

I want to learn nexus mod now. It's a shame steam has no achievement system like New Vegas, so I am stuck with Windows Live.

I am playing the game more like a tactical strategy game. Meaning my 3 main skills are medicine, science and speech( speech is always what I level on priority). I'm not even on level 10 yet and I already have taken advantage of comprehension and all those perks that enhance the leveling system early on. Perks like bloody mess and animal friend kind of make the game too easy for my taste. Bloody mess is just a wasted level up.

I turn on the game then I use a map because its easier that way.  :yay:

Pretty much what I do with every Bethesda game. Mod the heck out of it. I try to Roleplay as different characters using mods, and it's pretty fun :)

First playthrough of FO3: Very Good Karma, Broken Steel level capped (30, Messiah), perfect Barter, Speech, Repair, Science, Lockpick, Medicine, Melee, and every other skill except Explosives, Sneak and Unarmed. Also, perfect 10 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats after getting the Almost Perfect perk at level 30 and collecting all the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. bobble heads, currently exploring rest of the Wasteland and trying to get other bobbleheads. Also, the G.O.A.T. made me a Chaplain or a priest. Also, got power armor perk early on (Level 13 XD) by helping out the Outcasts in Operation: Anchorage and got one of the best Power Armors in the game, Winterized T-51b, that's virtually indestructible due to what i heard was a glitch with the Broken Steel add-on. Also, completing Operation: Anchorage pretty much opens up a Pre-War tech storage vault full of cool and powerful toys such as the Winterized T-51b Power Armor, a Gauss Rifle, a Missle Launcher, a Minigun, a Flamer, a Chinese Assault Rifle, a Chinese Officer's Sword, Jingswei's Shocksword, lots of frag, pulse and plasma grenades and mines, a sniper rifle, a trench knife, Chinese Dragoon armor (+5 Sneak), and lots of other things that I forgot was in the storage room. It's a cool, nut-busting, and satisfyingly rewarding mission considering that you're basically restricted to what the simulation gives you and not your butt-kicking reality gear, which was a hassle for me at first.  :) Side note: Also, completing the Broken Steel epilogue will get Enclave troops storming at you every once in a while, but you're pretty much OP as hell at that point, especially if you're good Karma with FAWKES and his GATLING LASER. Also, on the hunt for unique weapons. So far, found the Experimental MIRV which took me three hours to find because I was too stupid to find the F****ING SWITCH to open the d**n thing until looking up online, also found the Vengance and Jack in the Deathclaw Sanctuary, this weird combat knife in an underground raider base, this unique set of spiked knuckles called Pelunkett's Valid Points (haha, I just got the joke behind the weapon's name as I typed it), The Backwater Rifle, Lincoln's Repeater, the Man Opener, the Metal Blaster, Fisto!, Eugene, Wild Bill's Sidearm, a Tesla Cannon, and lots of others that I forgot, but they're still very cool toys to play with in Fallout 3.

First playthrough update: Just discovered every known area in the Capital Wasteland. Off to Point Lookout and exploring all of that. Also, found so many cool new weapons like the Shocker Power Fist.

Second playthrough so far: Attempting to be Evil, getting flank kicked by Megaton residents for breaking into the armory and aggroing the Mr. Gutsy there that I swear was never there before (the green jerk called me a "Commie S.O.B."). The G.O.A.T. made me a pedicurist. :(

Second playthrough update: Just blew up Megaton and living in Tenpony Tower.

Third playthrough so far: Brawler class, 9 Strength and Agility, forgot what rest of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats were, attempting to be neutral. The G.O.A.T. made me a stupid Fry Cook. A F***ING FRY COOK!!

Third Playthrough update: Nothing new happening.

Neutral character just for Impartial Meditation. I normally use two-handed shotguns and handguns, and use light armor over power armor. I mainly invested in Speech, Small Guns, Sneak, Lockpick, and Science, but mostly Speech, Small Guns, and Sneak. I normally put my SPECIAL points into Agility and Charisma. Due to the fact that I steal things and donate every now and then, my karma always balances out.

No matter what, in FO3, I always take Impratial Meditation (+30 to Speech if you have Neutral karma), Black Widow (If playing as a female, kickass speech choices and 10%+ to guys), Comprehension (The best perk in the game), Sniper (+25% in VATS for when you try to shoot them in the head), and Mysterious Stranger (Sometimes a mysterious stranger will help you out in VATS, it's a fun perk). Technically, when I get to it, I tend to take Grim Reaper's Sprint (When you exit VATS, all of your action points regain) too.

ALSO TUNNEL SNAKES RULE

The Grim Reaper's Sprint perk only works if you manage to kill an enemy in VATS, so taking in the Sniper and Concentrated Fire perks along with Grim Reaper's sprint could really allow you to abuse VATS to an insane degree. Hmm, now that I think about it that way, I should try that. BTW: Concentrated Fire perk allows you to be more accurate to a particular body part if you target just that area.

with the GOTY edition i literally make a cyborg ninja and go all stealth and melee. with the stealth suit and powersword from the operation anchorage dlc with full skills in melee and stealth, not only will yo never be seen ever again, your sword will cut though anything, and with the grim reaper perk, infinate VAT's

If you want more flavour, get the katana from mothership zeta XD

(seeing a 500 year olf katana slice an enclave solider in power armour to bits never gets old XD)

I recently started Fallout 3 after barely giving it a chance in 2008, so far I am basically being a melee weapons master. That is my highest skill and I bonk everything to death. Enjoying the game so far. :)

I always level up my sneak and speech skills. You get to level 100 sneak and you can practically instant kill any enemy when you are crouched (except the really powerful enemies like Deathclaws). Speech is also useful because sometime you can completely skip a fight with a boss of npc by convincing them not to fight.

I also like to mod my fallout games. Waiting for some really good mods for Fallout 4.
