Critique this. A drawing I did a while back, it's not as good as i thought it was, but i can't believe I drew this it's way above my skill level. Do artists get that alot drawing something you know you don't have the talent for just spontaneously?

And I'll throw in this discord drawing, I drew it with the visual reference I put in the photo.

Right now, the thing that stands out the most to me is that the lines are very light. Try to make the darker areas even darker, and it will make the drawing stand out much more.

Looks good, though.

The first drawing has a very, very significant lack of proportion and anatomical bases. The important part about learning to draw it so learn what things go where, and how the all relate to one another, i.e., how the brow line, also meets the top of the ears.

It is important to learn to construct your drawings off of simpler shapes and guides, and later work on detail.

I'd recommend learning how to draw each anatomical part of the face, the eyes, mouth and lips, nose, ears, eyebrows and such, as well as learning the proportions.

Also, hair is not that easy to draw either, it takes a lot of light-and-shadow thought, and knowing how to draw a stroke which can resemble many strands of hair at once.

The picture from reference of Discord is alright.

You're perfectly right although the thought of me learning how to draw anatomically correct humans seems unlikely.

I'm not saying that you need to draw pure realism, what I'm saying is that, if you learn the anatomy of say, the eye, you'll know how to draw it at every angle, in different ways. By accomplishing this, you can make an own style of drawing the eye.

Learning anatomy is one of the key ways to obtain a style.
