AKIRA Reference?

After recently rewatching Akira, I noticed something that seemed familiar. Remember that scene where SOL destroys Tetsuo's arm. Well, before one of the blasts we see this.

Notice how the rocks are starting to float. In s4 of mlp we see this

Are these floating rocks before a sudden blast of energy a reference, or a coincidence. (Please let it be a reference)

Well it would be odd for another anime to be referenced with something as obscure as Akira is nowadays. I guess it's possible, though it also maybe possible that you maybe over thinking this a bit. IDK.

Unless someone at Hasbro is a major Akira fan, I highly dought it.

This is true. DBZ would be another excellent example. It would be too oddly specific if it was a direct reference to Akira.

I think that's a bit of a stretch. Floating rocks are used pretty often to show gathering power.

I heard they referenced the Illuminati too with Twilight's cutie mark since it contains various triangles.

This is purely coincidental. My Little Pony has referenced various things, but this is far too subtle for it to be a planned reference.

I don't think it's necessarily an AKIRA reference, as there are plenty of other things that use this trope as well.
