:D I hope you know I'm joking. But I'm glad that we agree on this. Back on topic, those scary alternate timelines were too dark for me. And that's saying something. I've never said something's too dark for me. But those timelines were dark and I hope to never go down that road or any dark road like that with this show.

He hurt them because that was needed in his plan, but he didn't show sadistic pleasure in doing so. It was more just "business" than that he reveled in it.

on the other hand Sombra seemed to take glee in his actions past it helping him achieve his plan, and the same with chrysalis in the comics when it came to eating characters.

A villain getting off on their actions compared to one who's doing it as a means to an end comes off as more vile to me.

They're all vile, all heartless, and all evil. Edited by ANGEL

I think it was pretty much the limit for the show. Anything beyond that, and we're looking at a show more built for a teen male audience :maud:

You have a very good point there, my friend.

I disagree there, I think the comics are darker than that, and they're good for the little girls.

I am perfectly fine with the show's current tone.

Personally I don't really want the show to get much more darker and edgier.

I also don't think that the show would be well off if it tried to become as dark as something like The Legend of Korra.

Agreed. FiM is one of the few shows that I enjoy for its lighthearted and innocence. I enjoy FiM because it makes me laugh,(and sometimes gives me teh feelz), and because it's enjoyable and fun like Looney Tunes, or classic Spongebob. It's not a serious show, it knows this, and it makes use of that. For example, when Rarity and Twilight complain about Pinkie randomly breaking into song in the series premiere, while Rainbow just kinda scowls through the whole first stanza. Or whenever they make a reference or gag. It's supposed to be a fun, silly, random show. That's why I fell in love with it, and I don't think it's necessary to break that to make it more "epic". I mean, they're pastel color ponies, not giant fighting robots. It's not a show that needs to go darker, although there are some I watch that could really benefit from it *cough Star Wars Rebels! *cough!*

I think when dark is mentioned, it means a level of dark like 80s and 90s cartoons would do.

They got away with that specifically because it was about drugs though, not for any other reason. The moral guardians let you do stuff like that if it demonized Drugs in the 80s and early 90s because of the hugely insane anti-drug witch hunt going on at the time.

Like how GI joe got to be more violent and dark in their episode about Cobra and the joes joining forces to fight a drug deal who then killed himself with his drugs, because apparently Drugs > terrorism to the moral guardians.

Its like how during the 60s upwards the big appeal of making a biblical movie was because it bought you protection from the moral guardians censoring you and you could do alot more violence and sexual stuff in the movies than a Non-biblical movie because the Moral guardians would look the other way to avoid attacking their own special interests (or being seen as trying to censor the bible)

Yeah, I highly doubt they'd tackle actually heavy things like drugs. I mean, this is Friendship is Magic, not Real World Issues are Magic. That said, I think what makes the show so popular is that a lot of the time it doesn't talk down to its audience and that it has a touch (a touch, mind you) of realism.

They did addicting magic with Spike and Rarity. Not to also over look Applebloom trying her homemade Cutie Mark drug enhancement.

True, but it's more of a magic of Equestria thing and not really a drug like heroin or meth.

I'll say this.  I wouldn't mind a regular villain in the show, as long as the overall theme and concept were relatively the same.  You can have an overarching villain and still have the show be about the power of friendship.  And really, it probably wouldn't make the show THAT dark.

The main characters would just have a slightly more defined goal.  And that's something we really don't get anymore from the characters.  Most of the long term goals any of the mane six once had have been met at this point.  So throwing a recurring villain into the mix and raising the stakes would be a nice chance to shake things up, especially since that hasn't happened yet in the show.

And maybe it would be a bit darker than what we're used to seeing.  But I think as long as there's a happy ending, kids would be alright with it.

I would have to say I am happy the way it is now. With mostly light hearted episodes throughout the bulk of the season, and the occasional slightly darker toned episodes in the opening/ending two part episodes.
