Are spiders evil?

No spiders are evil.

I doubt they have any understanding of good and evil, they just do what thy do to survive.

They are mostly misunderstood creatures, with only the larger species being a mortal threat to us.

They get bad press is all B)

I like spiders, although when I come across one, I instantly freak out. We have MANY Wolf spiders in our basement, and in the past few days I have come across two up in the main part of our house. Mind you we had our first frost last week, so now everything wants warmth (from mice to asian beetles)...I have prepared (put out bait, and sprayed cracks and crevices to stop bugs from getting in), but because we haven't turned on our furnace, I think they are coming up through our vents.

Spiders are very helpful, other than their webs, our basement is grub/bug free. I am glad for that. However, we also have Brown Recluses and Black Widows in our area as well, so I am very VERY wary of any spider with markings on its back (especially red). Those two are extremely poisonous....But once I confirm it is not either of these, I try to stop its escape by putting something i grabbed nearby so it can climb on, and once on, I take it outside and shake it off. I do this with many larger bugs like grasshoppers....otherwise I vacuum it up or let my cats have fun (they like to catch and eat bugs {except asian beetles}, gross but effective).

I wish I could have a pet Tarantula. They actually look cute...at least compared to other spiders....

Now I do think mosquito and ticks are a scourge....but not spiders...

I know it's there way if living but they don't it just to survive some time they just do it like a spider if it comes down on to you for it's wed it will bite you it even if you don't move it will still bite cause spiders are life draining creatures hell there's a spider that attacks birds cause there to big for bugs and don't get me started in camel spiders they got to be the meanest meany heads ever.

Kay but what about the little spiders that lay eggs in your brain so that the baby's can feed and don't say they aren't real cause they are I mean there probably the worst they don't have any poison but they eat your brain which is really scary "shivers"

I will say they do not exist. If you look at the whole Arachnid genus, there are no spiders that are biologically made to withstand the insides of an animal (like stomach acid). However, they can lay eggs under your skin between the epidermal layers. Flies and many other insects do that...so if you hear of spider sacs being in someone's ear or under someone's scalp, it is possible. Not many spiders species do that though, so I wouldn't worry. They just can't and won't get to your brain. It's also a myth that you eat spiders in your sleep. Spiders are actually quite intelligent and wouldn't do something so stupid...

There are a lot of urban legends about spiders, but if you look up their genus and common species  (the kinds where you live) behavior, you will find that there are many things you didn't know about them. Don't believe everything you hear, and anything that is far-fetched or questionable, just look it up, and don't take just one source either.  :)

Spiders mainly eat bugs and things smaller than them. There are spiders out there that are herbivores even! Some are thieves, stealing other carnivores prey and not hunting themselves (like scavengers) They bite out of fear/defense when it comes to something bigger, just as other carnivores do. They are more or less like tiny cats or other carnivores. Just think practically, and they aren't so evil. In fact, as I said before, ticks and other insects we don't think much about are much much worse.

@Spreelly

Well, of course I don't suck. I'm awesome!

There is a problem. Animals do feel emotions but their actions are based on instinct. So, they will not care about thinking solutions, they'll think about either defending theirselves or protecting their territories.

When you kill an animal, wether is for protecting yourself or hunting, you have to respect it. He is, or was alive, and had by no means any consideration of hurting you, because we, humans don't and shouldn't enter in the plans of the animal's mind.

Humans do think and act with reason, and even though we're sometimes as irrational and as savage as some of the most fierce predators on the planet, we're basically a virus. A planetary virus. We're capable of killing the planet by polluting its ecosystem. We're easily one if not THE most dangerous and evil beings on the surface of the Universe.

And that's something, because the Universe is said to be infinite, and probably with other beings living around us, there's the possibility of them stopping us from killing ourselves. Who knows.

Most animals are still millions of years beyond our comprehension.

I have been studying spiders cause like you I'm terrified of them but find them really interesting but I will have to say the brain eats do or at least did at one time in the world like have you ever heard of someone bleeding form there noise eyes ears cause that's from those spiders there like so small you can't see them I know there out there or where.

I have heard of that, but those stories that have reputable information have been linked to parasites, other diseases, or external spider bites. Because nearly all spiders are poisonous to some degree, people can have different reactions to spider bites. Many people assume spider bites when more often than not, it's another skin problem or disease...

Of course not. They can't be evil because they have no choice. They have no knowledge of what evil even is. So how can they act on any desire other than survival? If they bite someone in their sleep, it's only because the spider felt something immensely larger than itself and acted in defense.

Now if you're asking whether I associate spiders with evil . . . well no. No I don't. I grew up watching (and crying at) the original animated Charlotte's Web. It gave me an appreciation of what spiders are and do for their respective habitats. Then there was James and the Giant Peach another one of my favorite movies, where Ms. Spider acted as a surrogate mother to James. His first friend and the one who most believed in him. (Mrs. Ladybug was more of a fussy aunt or grandmother.)

Now certainly I can see why others would associate spiders with evil. They sometimes can be dangerous animals that carry venom and many media sources do use them as a short hand for the kind of evil that is hidden and patient, waiting for when it's victim is vulnerable.

That's just not how I see them. Hell when I find one in my house, I usually just find a way to escort it from the premises rather than kill it. Albeit that treatment is not unique to spiders.

Me evil? I don't know what this evil you speak of is!

Sorry, I put under a spoiler for those who are terrified of spiders. These little guys are seriously cute though.

Didn't you just say looking at them made you anxious???

spiders = cute tbh

i want a pet tarantula <3

I used to have one named Charles. He died recently, at the age of (almost) 9. Made me very sad inside, especially as his breed was supposed to live longer. He was my beautiful boy~~

Also for everyone spiders can be evil I mean some like very little ones crawl in your ears at night and lay eggs inside you mostly around your brain and when the eggs open up the baby's eat at your brain and make you bleed from every hole on your head before crawling out leaving you to die or to be brain dead for the rest of your life.

Er, because spiders want a dark, warm place to lay their eggs that makes them evil? .-. That logic makes...no sense...they don't consciously know it's a human ear and go like "lol i'ma fuck you up 2NITE sonnnnn", unlike humans who make other species feel immense amounts of pain solely because they can.

Also, I think you would PROBABLY NOTICE if you work up one morning and felt something in your ear, so...even if they are very small, it's doubtful you would start to notice that you had something wrong with you. .-.

Spiders are, like most other animal species (humans, obviously, included in this group) very instinctive. They aren't out to get you like humans are out to get many other species. I would say they are far less "evil" than the human race on many levels.

Well I to be honest have no idea of what a spider thinks for all we know they are trying to hurt you or not I don't know also no you wouldn't notice cause you'd be dead or at least brain dead by the time you woke up also haven't you ever had little itch in your ear that you scratched once then ignored most likely anyway spiders may not know what they do is bad and evil but does that make them any less evil if a human was born only knowing to kill does that make him/her evil yes spiders are born to trap and kill that's what they know like if you had a pet white tail would not bite you cause you show it love not it'd probably bite you twice if spiders where big enough they would go after humans why cause spiders feel no remorse they have no emotion a spider would kill you without a second though and they don't even have to be hungry.

They do us equal amount of good as they do bad. First of all, without them we would be swarming in flies. Secondly, they keep many smaller insect away from us and are good for crops better then most toxics. Finally they're more scared of us then we are of them. What does that tell us, lol.

Do you eat meat without a second thought? Or do you actually respect and kill the animal yourself? Do you even know where that meat has been or what has been done to it? I'm guessing "no" to all three, which is normal for most humans. If no to them, then you are equally as "evil" as these spiders.

Spiders do not have the brain capacity to enjoy killing and do it because their genetic code is wired to do so. It's unfair to say they would "kill humans" and stuff, because yeah, if they were bigger, they would, obviously. That's what animal species do. People don't feel remorse squishing a bug, so why would that bug feel remorse squishing you? If you squish bugs or eat meat, you are EVIL. EVIIIIIL.

And I think it would take them a bit to get down your ear canal/skull and bury into your brain enough to do significant damage  Plus, ear canals often empty into your stomach when you swallow. (If spiders would even do that - which, by the way, they do not. Don't confuse spiders with parasites.)

And I have had itches like that but if there is something blocking my ear canal I will notice. The ear canal is not some big, loose thing. It is very tight, and you will feel things rubbing against your eardrum, which is very, very uncomfortable and in some cases painful.

Don't believe all these stupid things media shows you. When you can show me a professional, legitimate medical document outlining a spider (not a parasite, specifically a SPIDER) burrowing into someone's brain and killing them, then I will believe that.

Look it up on the internet and no reasonable site has them eating brains.  They'll go into your ear because it's dark

No animal is evil. What scares me, is that people kill animals they find scary or disgusting. So you have to be cute to get respect in this world? Pretty much, it reflects itself in our society.

I never kill anything, unless it's to protect myself or for food. Being scared or creeped out by an animal is no excuse to hurt it.
