This is just an idea that came to mind randomly but what if you was able to have your own profile music?

 

By this i mean, Whenever someone views your profile, Music will play of that profile owners choice. Like a little theme tune to represent your profile.

There could also be an option for users that disables the profile music if they don't want to hear any music during profile viewing.

 

Really, I think this would be a pretty cool idea. I do understand the risks of unwanted music and inappropriate music being played but if you look past all that, Then this could seem like a good idea for you.

 

I would love to have this as a option, I personally would think it would be fun to browse peoples profiles to see what music they have choose.

 

Do you think this is a good idea?

From my knowledge of coding, I wouldn't think it would be that hard to do, just time consuming but i am not a coder so i can't really say

Personally, I don't see a need for this. If you want music with your profile just add a link via YouTube or some other site. Most people already videos or music on their profile; just takes one extra click to start it. Is that really a big deal? No need to have the devs spend time integrating something into the forums that we more or less have already.

I think what he means is a music player that autoplays a playlist of songs.

I don't know what does IP.Board offers on its marketplace about this,but,even if it existed that function,you just told the main problem.

There're only two tech Administrators,@Feld0 and @Lavo,and they barely have time for the most important projects and issues of the forum,to add a function like that.

 

As I always say,I don't know if IP.Board market offers something like you describe,but there're higher priorities than adding something like Profile Music

It was an idea. I'm not saying they have to add this, I just think it would be a cool addition to a profile but i'm not saying it should become their main priority

The guys at IPB don't think too highly of the idea either when it gets brought up. 100% rejection rate with a common response.

 

However, while BG music went the way of the dodo when MySpace died (in truth it was always annoying) ... a way to upload your favorite tracks to you profile isn't completely without merit, but you would obviously need to do more than a simple media uploader. You also have ownership rights to address.

 

keeping the same train of thought a little, but twisting it .... I would rather we work towards integrating Pony.fm with user profiles and the board index instead.

A concern I would have to share is the simple fact that anything can be uploaded. For all we know, someone could upload a track of them cussing someone out. Not to mention the countless implications of excessive vulgarity and NSFW. It doesn't add enough to a users experience to justify existence on MLP Forums at this stage.

A site I was on previously had it available only to staff. Whilst it was neat, I dislike the idea of only staff having this option as well. For these reasons Im going to have to say no.

I guess there is not much in posting my opinion but I'm going to anyway.

 

I remember being on a website with this feature and It was really quite annoying, some of the time because It would always play on full volume when I had my headphones on and other times it would start playing while I was listening to something else.

 

For that reason, I chose No.

That tends to be the complaint you hear most of the time when this comes up. It's true. Long ago, when the internet was dialed into through these things called hard phone lines using 28.8k and 56k modems, people put midis all over every fan page in existence. It was annoying then too. In fact ... some of the features people enjoy on their browsers came into being due to misguided web designers setting BG music on their pages.

Myspace used to have this (Oh God, did I just say that?) and I HATED IT because it would automatically start playing. One thing you could do is add a song from youtube to your profile, and ask that those who view it to give it a listen.

 

As a moderator, I look at a LOT of profiles while I listen to music. I think the Breakfast Club can say it better than I can.

Honestly, it's an okay feature, but it has many issues that have already been highlighted by others here. I mean I'd rather not view a profile and instantly some blaring audio of a random rap or whatever tune run into my period of concentration.

 

I like what we have. I currently have a YouTube video of a favorite and related song of mine on my profile. If people are interested they can play it. If not they can pass it.

 

Honestly, I think it's better like that.

I've been testing this with my own profile and no success. Does the board support embedding media using iframe coding? Reason I am asking this is because I was experimenting with embedding the Spotify player into my profile. Apparently Spotify did this recently, but the coding they use isn't supported on BBCode boards.

 

Honestly, I'm perfectly happy with the YouTube embedding, but I was curious if it was possible or not. It's not of great importance.

Let's go back to the times when MySpace ruled the world and people used frontpage to style sites. I'd rather not have those back, thank you.

People link youtube videos in their profile and that should be enough disturbance.
