Family or friends serving in the military

Does anyone you know serve in the military or has done so in the past? I was curious about this, so I thought it be a good thing to ask. XD

My dad was in the vietnam war. I can't remember what he did, but he never fought on the front lines. It's still neat because I'm considered the child of a vietnam veteran now. :D

I have an uncle who served as a pilot in Vietnam, he saw a lot of messed up stuff so he dosen't like talking about it. My grandpa on my Dad's side of the family served in the Italian navy (my Dad's side of the family are Italian immigrants) and my brother served as an MP in the Air Force.

I live in Israel. Everyone here are drafted to serve in the military. I was being drafted at one point, a surgery on my left knee made me unfit for service. I was going to get into demolitions... though from what i heard i kind of dodged a bullet.

My friends served in the military as a paratrooper, a search and rescue specialist, an aircraft mechanic, infantry, armor... almost anything. Even know a girl from intelligence.

One of my uncles served in the red army back in the day, didn't quite say what he did but it mostly involved guard duty.

Nah it's probably over-exaggerated. I know it's a dangerous role and all, but i think people around the ages of 18-21 (when you usually serve here, after which you become a reservist) can be worse than spoiled kids sometimes.

My dad, and uncles have served. I also believe my great grandfathers served as well. As far as I know, they were all in the navy. When it comes to non-family members, I have a friend whose joining the National Guard this year. I also have two coworkers, one who is joining the army, and one who was drafted back in the day. They're all great guys, and they're happy to be serving their country so more power to them.  :)

One of my brothers is a Marine. After he got out he joined the Army.

My buddy just got back from Naval bootcamp the first week of September, and deployed 3 days later.

My father's father was in WWII.

I don't know much of anyone farther back in my bloodline than that.

My grandfather was sent to fight in the Algerian war. Or, as the media put it at the time, the "Peacekeeping operation in Algeria".

Both saw and was forced to do some horrible stuff, and it's not until after his death we understood he had a PTSD...

I've also got an aunt who served as a nurse during the Second World War, and even got a Légion d'Honneur for it.

I really hope I'll never have to serve in the military...

my Grandad served in Vietnam but now he wants nothing to do with that, judging by how Australian troops were treated after coming home, I don't blame him. my best mate is training as an Aircraftsman in the air force. me? I cancelled my application into the defense force. I don't want to risk my life serving the idiots that run this country

My great uncle on my dad's side was in the Marines, and my second cousin on my mom's mom's side is in the Army. Oh, and my second cousin on my dad's side's husband was in the Air Force. I've been wondering about National Guard or Navy if I don't get a scholarship.

my family has had a history of either joining the police or military my dad was a Sergeant for the U.S. Army in Artillery, and my grandfather was an officer in the U.S. Navy I never asked him for his rank though

I wanted to join the Army and try to become a Black Hawk Pilot a few years back but several things made me change my mind now I'm going to try as a Police officer

A bulk of my family on my father's side were of service age during the Second World War, the Korean War, and Vietnam; many of them served in the US Army, Navy, and Air Force (In fact, I believe my dad was the only one of his brothers not to join the armed services, though he was in Air Force ROTC in the 1960s.) On my mother's side, her father was a Marine serving in the Pacific Theater. He fought at Okinawa, if I recall correctly, and likely would have taken part in the invasion of Japan.

Currently, I have a cousin who has been a Marine for over the past ten years, flying helicopter gunships in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now he's stationed at the Pentagon, having recently been promoted to lieutenant colonel. His brother served in the Army around the same period; I believe he retired with the rank of captain.

I believe I have a few more active service members in more distant parts of the family, but I don't remember their records.

Don't really know anything about my family besides the ones I live with...

But my dad was in the army, went on tour overseas like 4 times. I say 'was' because he retired earlier this year, and at the ripe age of 35. He has sleep apnea, a messed up ankle and foot, and ptsd. The years took a toll on him but at least he won't have to deploy anymore or anything. Kind of nice considering he missed out on about half my life due to deployment.

I have a cousin who was a paramedic in the military, and I have a friend (whom is one of the coolest people I know) who's going to enlist in the Navy (at least I think it's the navy) next year.

I have an uncle in the Army serving 8-9 years (I don't remember exactly), he's been promoted to Staff Sgt. recently. My grandpa was a paratrooper and my other grandpa was in the Marines (not sure how long). My cousin I believe is in the Army, possibly 3-4 years now maybe longer. I have a friend on here, @Marine_Vet_Brony so pay him your respects! :D
