I guess I'm a mix. I mean, today, I played some Putt-Putt. Majority of those games are from the 1990s. But then at the same time I like games that push my GPU to its limits, like GTA V or modded Skyrim (honestly, you can't go back to vanilla Skyrim after you install some mods that turn it into an actual RPG and not some action-adventure wannabe RPG) so there's that.

Honestly, I feel that game is overrated. I played a bit of it, and I thought, "meh". Then I played Fallout 3 and I was sucked in. I like the post apocalyptic setting more than the fantasy/medieval setting. I still like the setting, though. One of my favorite games and all time favorite JRPG is Dragon Quest 8.

Dragon Quest 8 is the shit. Was my first PS2 game. Really need to play it more.

 

I'm making an Elder Scrolls retrospective-review thing and I feel like I need to put extra time in to Skyrim so I don't get shat on. Meanwhile... you guys should really play Arena and Daggerfall more. They're excellent games.

Putt Putt was a game from my childhood. I also played Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, Blue's Clues, and Spy Fox.

 

Now about emulation if I were to play games on PC I would play games officially designed for it and not emulation of games from other systems especially systems like NES, Snes, N64, Gamecube, Genesis, and Saturn while some emulators run games pretty well, there are some emulators far from perfect like N64 and Saturn. Sometimes a game especially a 3D one won't perform very well or even perfectly even if you have high specs. Sometimes those games can perform worse than it's intended system and it's not necessarily the specs that are a problem, it's that some consoles have a unique architecture that's hard to emulate on PC's. I've played a few N64 games through emulation that are unplayable like Pokémon Snap and I could never fix it. And yes you can get controller adapters but it's not getting the full experience. And generally Virtual Console emulates games better. If I were to play a game that was intended for a console like a Zelda game for instance I would play it on it's respective system with the official copy, through Virtual Console, or using a flash cart. That's why I'm not big into console emulation on PC.

Next to Pokémon, Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo was my favorite game ever when I was 6.

 

Evidently things haven't changed much since 1999 as I still play Pokémon and just bought PPStZ again because I lost the original disc nor do I have an optical drive in my PC.

To be fair, I think that PSU can actually only put out 300W lol

 

I wouldn't trust anything but a Seasonic or Superflower rebrand (or a direct SS or SF supply) in a PC tbh. Not because of brand loyalty, but because of reliability.

Emulating PS2 and Gamecube seems to be a crapshoot.

 

My system can run some things like SSB and Eternal Darkness just fine on fairly high settings, and other things like Starfox Adventures are barely playable at much lower settings.

Optimization issues due to the original games being developed for the PS2 and not for PCs.

 

Honestly some games work very well on emulators, but others just...don't.

Oh, well to answer your question, Shobini and Mountain Drew said it best. Some games are more optimized than others, and also, some emulators are better than others. The best PS2 emulator is probably PCSX2. And Dolphin for GC/Wii.

Maybe PS2 has a different architecture that's harder to emulate I think. But I don't really like emulators because they give me a poor experience of what a game is and even with some enhancements like cleaner graphics sometimes games on emulators have glitches and problems not in the original. N64 and Saturn emulators are very hard to emulate and it's very hard to play DS games on emulator because even though you can hook up a controller, games that use the touch screen a lot is hard because you don't have one, just clicking which feels impractical.

 

So if I were to play console exclusive games like Zelda or Kingdom Hearts I would play them on their respective system.

Needs more thermal paste and a $1000 markup.

 

Also, your CPU cooler is bottlenecking your optical drive.

 

And don't forget to add in a dozen or so red LEDs. It will make the computer run about 500% faster.

You need a pretty beefy machine to emulate anything newer than PS1/N64.

The industry is going to cause itself to crash again

Thing is, it wont. People are too invested in the industry, it's gonna keep developers funded for the next 30 + years. I also hesitate to say "the industry" is causing this crap. Its a select number of publishers and a few developers who are responsible for the worst of it. All in all, we have plenty of decent developers and publishers still hanging around.
