gaming What can save the Wii U?

Maybe if you gave it a try with some friends, maybe you will enjoy it.

also, isn't that touch pad on the Ps4 considered a gimmick as well?

nobody complains about that being gimmicky because it's playstation -_-

I like the Wii U the way it is, it's different, it isn't a carbon copy of the other consoles.

3rd party support, you Can't rely on mario and link and super smash and metroid ONLY to sell well, microsoft and Sony are selling well because of their games, Sony has god of war, little big planet, ratchet and clank, microsoft has: halo, sunset overdrive, and windows 8 :P

No, they are selling well because of hype, not because of the games, if Microsoft and Sony didn't have third party support, they would drop out of the console business in no time.

Windows 8 has nothing to do with Xbox.

The Wii U may not have the over-hyped third party games available on their system, but at least they have a lot of high quality games that every one seems to ignore sadly.

...And Nintendo just goes and silently releases the info on SSBU's release date through a press release. Do they just not like doing Nintendo Directs anymore (because this was the PERFECT opportunity for one, SSB specific or general), or do they just not have much to show?

It becomes even more boggling everyday. =/

Hey, I have faith in the Wii U, Nintendo just released it at the wrong time, this year and next year is when the Wii U will truly shine, it might pull a 3ds and make a complete 180 and start selling like crazy.

Lot's of people have lost faith in Nintendo these days, but I haven't, I will support them to the day I die, the Wii U is being ignored because of the media and the lack of advertising, but the media is starting to say good things about the system, their advertising is getting better, I saw the hyrule warriors advert on cartoon network (yes, I still go to that channel), and also, hyrule warriors youtube ads, pretty cool :D

maybe after this holiday the Wii U will be back on its feet, it won't win this gen, but it can be the home of some amazing games :)

I don't see the Wii U as a failure...It's more popular in Japan than it is in the West...

I would like to see Nintendo resurrect game franchises that not only deserve better, but can bring Nintendo to have the Wii U printing money too :D

Wait a minute...The Wii U is doing poorly? Since when?

It's not anywhere near as bad as the Vita is doing, and even the Xbox One is selling less than the Wii U. I think it's doing rather well, just not as well as their previous systems.

I'm mainly a PC gamer but I have bought every Nintendo console for their exclusives.  I like the Mario games but there have been to many of them without bringing out the other main Nintendo IP's.  A new Metroid game and I will buy a WiiU tonight.  Not an HD re-release of an older title.  A brand new Metroid and they will have my money.

I did buy Wind Waker, but it's not why we got the system. Our wii stopped reading discs, and we figured we might as well upgrade rather than buy another wii. I just decided to get Wind Waker because I never had the opportunity to beat it (though I played the crap out of the gamecube demo back in the day). My husband got Mario Kart, and through that, I got Pikmin 3 for free.

I really can't wait for the gamecube controllers to be usable on the Wii U. I'd have to say that it's by far my favorite controller ever made by any game company.

That's good to hear, I heard Nintendo confirmed that they are working on two Metroid games, one for Wii U, and one for 3ds.

Really?! Source please! I'd like to know more! :D

I don't think the Wii U needs saving at this point, though it does need a bit more third party confidence. If anything would 'save it' though, it definitely is going to be Mario Maker or the new Animal Crossing when they do eventually announce it. Those two games, either one, would make me buy a Wii U. It is a good system, despite some weird quirks, it just needs a bit more third party and a bit more innovation with some games. Not much else is needed in my opinion other than them improving the Nintendo Network further.

Nintendo has had a knack for getting itself out of tight spaces from what I've heard.

The games are usually pretty family friendly too, so it appeals to a whole range of audiences.

With games such as Zelda, Mario, SSB, and the like can you really go wrong there?

The new smash brothers might save the Wii U.

The only problem is that it's on the 3DS first.

I can't help but think that the less than stellar sales of the Wii U had contributed to Nintendo's decision to put SSB on the 3DS. It's a guaranteed money maker for them but now all those sales of the game that would've moved Wii U systems have gone to the 3DS.

I'll be picking up both but I can imagine many are happy enough with just the 3DS.

C'mon Nintendo, bring out your heavy hitters already...

I don't really know anymore guys, Nintendo has too many haters these days, and more and more people are jumping on the bandwagon, I don't know how they can turn the Wii U around with all this hate, the youtube community, IGN community and the gamespot community hate Nintendo, and that is a lot of people, they probably have convinced their friends to hate on Nintendo and the Wii U, I don't know how they can change peoples minds.

Honestly nothing really and it's not due to first party games. It's the fact Nintendo literally gives ZERO f***s. They got so much money in assets along with 4.7 billion in the bank they can just sit on their butt and do nothing until they feel like it. This also in turn relates to the fact the Wii U's hardware is a setback for third party developers that want to develop next generation games but if they were to develop for the Wii U, wouldn't be able to and guess what a majority of consumers want? Next generation games.

Dunno. Smash Bros. could, I can tell just from playing the 3DS version that it's gonna be amazing.

Mario Kart and Hyrule Warriors also seem to be helping, from what I can tell anyway. Not entirely sure though.
