There seems to be a groundswell of opinion against him.  I've never read either "Game of Thrones" series or "Fire and Ice" series.  From this thread, I suppose that is just as well.  I want to contemplate something dark & horrible, I've got my own life to think of, I don't need to spend time & money on a book.

 

He's also edited a bunch of stuff, including a lot of alternate history short story collections.  I like his "Wild Card" series.  Of course, he didn't actually do most of the writing.

 

If he wrote FIM, S1 Nightmare Moon would have led an invasion fleet from space, The CMCs would have gotten their Cutie Marks.  At least 1 would have regretted it. & Sugarcube Corners would have been the setting for several episodes, everyone of which would have ended in a cataclysmic battle which trashed the place

 

The Cutie Pox would have been an alien disease deliberately inflicted on the ponies.  It would be the source of Cutie Marks & they would give the associated powers (like in Cutie Pox or episode 65).  Zecora tried to stop it and failed.  In remorse, she sets up a free clinic to help the worst victims.

I think it'd feel a lot like the Redwall series, except replace the woodland creatures with ponies. Still "kid friendly", but they don't shy away from death either.

You see, the books aren't so hopeless. There is a lot of nifty neat things about the universe revealed over time to make you interested in the world, the characters themselvs are all diverse and interesting. And contrary to popular belife, the point of view characters don't mostly all die (only a few POV characters have died). And there is humor too.

 

And, you know, you start to think deeply about morality if you try. Can you forgive Jaime for his faults and like someone who has done something very terrible (for an arguably justified reason)?

 

So in short, its not 'The Walking Dead' where main characters die left and right and there is just drama and no comic relife, and where the themes are so monotonely bleak the setting is boring. Man, screw the walking dead.

I think it'd be interesting to see if he could write for a kid's show, the guy seems pretty jolly for someone who's written such a twisted series like Game of Thrones. He might have a decent light-hearted story in him, who knows.

There'd be a lot more deaths, and we'd probably get multiple points of views from different parts of Equestria; maybe someone from the Griffon Kingdom, Canterlot, Breezie's kingdom, etc.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if Nightmare Moon wasn't defeated in the first two episodes, maybe due to some of the Mane 6 failing to perform the task that represents their element (i.e. Applejack failing to tell Twilight it's safe to let go and Twilight falls to her death or Rainbow joins the Shadowbolts).

However, George R.R. Martin seems like a nice guy in real life, so he might be able to put out some mostly lighthearted stuff for kids.

Plenty of deaths, plenty of new places and characters to replace them and the show would certainly become TV-MA...

It would not be PG that is for sure. Every equine would mount every equine in the most scandalous manner. Homostuff, inceststuff, sexmajickstuff, itty bitty stinging sex - its all in GoT. Seriously, the guy had a mother and father, who happen to be brother and sister, do the deed right next to their dead child.

Let's see, my first thought was of the wedding between Cadance and Shining Armor. I think roughly three hundred deaths would take place at that moment.

 

Everypony would be...mounting...each other at the slightest provocation and banishment would be a thing of the past. Luna would have been executed immediately, Discord would have raped and murdered Celestia and crowned himself king, and the Mane 6 (those still alive by then) would be horribly gored by the legions of chaos.
