  1. I am playing Devils Advocate here. I do not endorse the Westboro Baptist Church. I just think that they have gotten an overly bad rap. Plus, I have a lawyer streak a mile wide. So here goes: The WBC has operated in a legal (albeit in poor taste) fashion. And for good reason: Fred Phelps was an attorney. In fact, during the 70's & 80's he used his legal skills to help blacks who faced discrimination. The legal behavior that the Phelps family has engaged in stands in stark contrast to the illegal behavior of many of those opposed to them. Their website has been hacked more times than can be counted. They have received death threats. They have been physically assaulted on the streets. In the 90's, a student from Liberty University through a homemade bomb on their property just feet from where a baby was sleeping. The WBC has done more for 1st Amenedment rights than most charitable organizations. They are keeping the freedom of speech alive in an age when it is under constant assault. They have committed the unforgiveable sin of the media age: the look bad. Their views are unpopular & they look bad publically when they share their views. But they are also a mirror. If they are guilty of preaching hate then look at the hate that has been offered to them. There's is verbal; the other side is both verbal and physical. Offering venom back is not making things better, it just makes those who do look more like the WBC. The more people engage in Ad Hominem with them it makes the WBC's message seem more right. Very few have listened to what they have to say and have given a well-though-out, calm rebuttal. If we dismiss the Phelps family as unloveable do we not then open the door for the same title being given to us (to you, to me)? Is it not in the spirit of MLP to at least try to love the members of the WBC? To my knowledge, this post is within the MLP forums rules. Please do not flame me or the WBC and get the thread locked down.
  2. Best quote and moral right here. From the 1986 movie: It's easy to be courageous when you are helping others.
  3. First, it is not going to happen. Second, regardless of one's feelings about gun control, a.22 pistol (especially .22 magnum) can be a formidable weapon at close range. Third, the hypocrisy of the crown in regards to gun control is astounding. Declassified documents reveal that the crown armed Protestant militias in Northern Ireland during the 1980's. So there are guns on the streets of Belfast (and probably elsewhere in the UK) that are illegal, both then and now, because the UK government put them there. But a law-abiding subject cannot own a .22.
  4. If money and legalities are no issue then a Glock 18:
  5. Yes, as I am kinda sorta in this boat. I have seen a little bit of FiM but never a full episode. I have watched some G1 (trying to get through the entire series there) and have every intention of starting FiM. For me MLP is a bit different as i remember when it came out - like 80's - then the internet got a hold of it and made it weird, so GIFS & college humor brought me here OH - and I like the ice cream bars.
  6. Most of the issues of this thread can be some summed up by this:
  7. Not to come off as crass but . . . when FiM came out and I saw the ponies (and even now) my mind thought: Stripper Ponies They are colorful with huge eyes and eyelashes. It is reminiscent of the wardrobe and make-up used for live theater. It has a quality that is very different from previous generations of MLP.
  8. Night sky on the Hopi Indian Reservation. It is in BFN - never saw the stars like that before or since.
  9. In MLP, the characters can manipulate items even though the ponies lack a thumb. So almost any weapon humans have would work . . . except ponies do not ambulate upright. The pony would have to stand on two legs (stop) to use the weapon unless he/she was flying. While the chamfron they made was truly art - it is not that practical. If the equine using it was in a gallop the potential for neck injury is high. Then you face the huge problem man has faced w/ stabbing tools - getting stuck momentarily which can easily get you killed. Plus you have the issue of securing the chamfron to the equine. Too much side-to-side force and the thing slides off. I am thinking that in the MLP universe magical/psy weapons are the way to go.
  10. A couple of times. I once got ambushed in Thailand. 2 Dudes were drunk and/or high. Got the better of the 2 guys until 1 of them went back to his bike & pulled a knife. That's when I ran. So I kinda did both fight and flight in one encounter.
  11. This @ 120:40-12:52 is a nightmare and a metaphor for life: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXwlrdVaJbU
  12. Kind of dating myself here but these chicks:
  13. Major Old School here. I remember Tempest and Sinistar in the arcade. Heck, I remember arcades. I had a Coleco and then the 8-bit Nintendo. My friend Clint and myself beat Golden Axe @ The Disneyland arcade in the 80's Uh! My Sis was the shiznat @ Q*bert. Y'all's Soccer Moms would not let U play this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-XEINagmaU
  14. Pretty much anything pre-Michael Eisner Disney.
  15. Would not have been the 80's if Phil was not there.
  16. Just an FYI . . . This topic takes on a whole other dimension when you are actually married
  17. Drugs (including alcohol) are partially responsible for much of the programming America has been privy 2 - probably MLP included. Many of us would not be if here is mom had not had a few shots or puffs.
  18. In many ways my avatar is the original pre-pony (in my view) for G1 MLP thus FiM. "Uni" is from D&D The Series which predates G1 MLP by about 6 months to a year. It is clear to me that MLP borrowed heavily from D&D and some of the voices actors were in both. It was all part of that wild 80's cartoon world I was privy to and many here were not. Even the rule of Unicorns being able to teleport predates G1 and is represented in D&D.
  19. Not a fan. I had too many vids hang up on the commercials. That and they frequently do not have what I want compare to less legit sites. Also they have pages for shows they do not have vids for. Frustrating when you are searching for obscure content. I will say this for them: I watched every episode of 21 Jumpstreet on Hulu. Big Hoof for that.
  20. Not a theory but fact. Scorpan is a rip off of Solars from Dungeons & Dragons The Series. Season 1 Episode 10.
  21. A definite yes for G1. When Firefly goes to get Megan in the TV movie Megan is at a stable w/ a real horse. Kind of the essence of MLP really. Not every girl can have a horse but every girl can have her very own (little) pony.
  22. I am going out on a limb here. I think they will have ponies. Some will have wings; some will have a single horn. They will be colorful and will be able to talk. Seriously folks, the differences between G1,G2,G3, & G4 are not all that different. There my bubble burst is over
  23. It would not be PG that is for sure. Every equine would mount every equine in the most scandalous manner. Homostuff, inceststuff, sexmajickstuff, itty bitty stinging sex - its all in GoT. Seriously, the guy had a mother and father, who happen to be brother and sister, do the deed right next to their dead child.
  24. Cutie Marks = Brands The equivalency is pretty obvious to me. So rather than being owned by a human master their talent(s) do. It's actually quite socialistic/communistic at its core as pony talents tend to serve a function that betters the larger pony society. Think "hats" or uniforms for humans, but here its a tattoo that is not coming off ever. Equestria looks pretty Smurfy to me. Much has been written about Smurfs being the ideal socialist society and Equestria does not seem far behind. Yes, there have been nods to royalty and aristocracy in the history of MLP but it is village nostalgia all day. No clothes (ok few clothes) - currency/money (they have it) = Lite Hippies. There you have it. Ponies are sane hippies as opposed to the John Lennon variety.
  25. The distinction between hard cider and non-alcoholic cider is largely artificial. If you crush fruit, get the juice, and let it sit - it will ferment on its own. It will have alcohol in it even if it is just a little. That is why juice in the supermarket is processed (and to prevent possible spoilage). The word "cider" is like the word "wine". There are non-alcoholic wines out there and they are wines. Sometimes cider is even referred to as apple wine. Both words strongly suggest alcohol. And "applejack" is an alcoholic beverage as already pointed out here. So ponies drink alcohol.
