searching Avatar Bending School (OOC)

I'm still thinking about submitting a teacher, but now I think I might actually go for a student instead. I guess it depends on what @@RunsWithSquirlz, decides to do. If she makes a teacher, I'll probably go with a student after all.

So I've been thinking about doing an avatar-themed roleplay myself a lot lately. This seems like the perfect oppertunity to try things out. I've got another teacher for you, but if you need more students I could also make a student character. :)

Name:

Xin Zí Chuan

Gender:

Male

Age + subject:

52, Offensive bending/versatile bending (as explalined in the series that waterbenders are capable of changing from a defensive to offensive position very quickly. His teaching moreso focuses on switching between the two efficiently than actually deeply going into how to defend yourself. That is to Torrent's and Zhoove's characters to teach.)

Optionally: Human anatomy and chi-blocking

Bending Ability (limited to two abilities):

Fire and Water (Healing and Lightning)

Appearance:

Tall and slender, with a bald head and a long slim goatee, he looks somewhat like an airbending master, though his darker-toned skin and black hair reveal that he isn't. Slowly turning old, some of the hairs in his beard are grey, and he has wrinkles on his face. Though his body is stern and sinewy, he doesn't have a lot of mass, and clearly he is a lot more rusty and cranky than he used to be in his young ages. His eyes are deep blue, in strong contrast with his fire-nationlike appearance. His robes look like those of the airbenders, but are in the traditional red colors of the fire nation, with the exception of his collar and belt, wich are blue, representing his affliation with the waterbending tribes. Small white embellishments in the form of waves can be seen on them. They are clearly of high value, both monetary and emotionally.

Personality:

Xin is a masterous teacher. Since he used to teach only the best in his own donjon, he has a strict, regal attitude, though also very mentor-like and caring. He knows how to teach his ways, and is very reserved in sharing his opinions. His one and only goal is to help others improve, and improve himself. He is very open to listening to new ideas, but he almost always sticks to the old ways he know that work. An experienced teacher and intelligent anatomist like him knows how and why people act, and how they feel. This helps him getting to know different people and learn how to increase the rate at which they improve.

One big downside to Xin's personality is that he never opens up to anyone or anything. He never, or tries to never give away about anything that is really 'him'. He believe that the more information you give others about yourself, the more tools you give them to destroy you. Sometimes this can lead to terrible misunderstandings and problems, that he almost refuses to solve if it includes giving away something about himself.

Backstory:

Xin grew up in a strict fire-nation family. His father was a general, and his mother was a diplomat. Even though they were often away, they made very sure that Xin grew up the way they wanted him to. Even though he was somewhat opressed by the strong presence of his parents, he learned to take an advantage of it. Xin was a good learner, and even more so eager to learn more and more. His parents could send him the best teachers, both in bending and other subjects such as history, poetry, biology, sosciology, physics and anatomy.

At a very young stage of his youth, after becoming quite adept with firebending already, he was trying to learn more from the ways of other nations. In this endeavour he found his ability to waterbend. His parents, absolutely thrilled with the idea of having such a talented and powerful bender in their bloodline, sent him out to the northern water tribes to learn as much as he could about waterbending, sending along a party of 4 firebending teachers along with him to prolong his firebending training for as long as possible.

Blessed with the influential and rich parents he had, he learned from some of the greatest fire and waterbenders available, and through his ambition and self study he grew to become a master himself in both elements. However, he became very intrigued with the old ways of the airbending nomads, and their way of thinking and living. The pretentious and selfish ways his parents had always acted like became corrupt in his eyes, and he decided he wanted to continue his studies on hiw own, in peace, and discover for himself what the best ways were.

His family immediately cast him out and disowned him. He lost his home, all of his possesions and all the teachers, books and potential other benders he could have learned from. Realising this quite a lot too late, Xin decided that he was not going to let his past and his family get in the way of his future. Travelling to the far reaches of the world throughout his lifetime, Xin learned from earthbenders and airbenders as well, even though he couldn't bend said elements. He learned the way their chi and energy flowed and their ways of thinking. He became wiser and stronger with every new bit of infromation he took in.

Around his forties, Xin opened a small donjon in a small town on one of the eastern fire nation isles. At first, life was tough for Xin, since he didn't have many students, and the ones he had didn't have much to pay. But eventually word spread of a great master teaching all who he thought worthy. More wealthy and renown benders came to his humble donjon to learn from him. Some of them were rejected or didn't agree with Xin's ways, but many others became loyal students, and eventually great benders.

Now, he has been given an outstanding oppertunity. To teach those who were gifted with the powers of two elements, like him, was like a dream come true. Finishing his final lessons with his students and bidding them goodbye, he set off to teach in this new school, with high hopes for a bright future.

Degree of Control over Elements:

Fire: High elite. Xin is one of the best firebenders in the world. He has enormous control over his fire, and has near-flawless technique. He is currently trying to extend his powers with channeling lightning in more complex ways, conducting it through water and his own body and such. He is also trying to learn how water and fire can work in conjunction with eachother.

Water: Elite. Xin is a great waterbender, and definitely one of the best waterbending teachrers. Though he is not in the ranks of the best waterbenders in the world, he is very proficient in all subjects of waterbending, and has fairly strong healing talents as well. Since he has great knowledge of the human anatomy, he also knows how to block chi, though he can't do it very quickly. Given time, he can block someones chi, but can also greaten the flow of one's chi with his healing powers. In conjunction with his lightning bending he can also give electroshock therapy.

Xin is most proficient in being as versatile as possible. Having learned from the airbending monks, he knows how to stay light on his feet and stay swift. Through water and fire he can quickly change from an offensive to a defensive position and vice versa. The different stances are a very important part of his teachings, and one of the things he excels most in.

How would you walk, how would you talk if you thought: "Three percent of the population likes classical music, if only we could get it up to four percent we'd be back in business and all our problems would be over." How would you walk, how would you talk if you thought: "Everybody loves classical music! They just haven't found out about it yet!" It's an entirely different world. It's what you make of it that counts.

I found an easy way to find out if you've inspired someone. If their eyes are shining, you know you're doing it!

Ohh. That makes sense.

This is just another reminder. From tomorrow till Thursday, I will have end of year exams going on so I got no idea how active I will be. Don't worry though, I will start the RP once my end of year exams are finished.

I have no clue in which dorm Xin should be placed. Place him wherever you think it's best. I don't mind at all.

My offer for having two characters (another student) still stands though. Just tell me if you need one.

I just noticed that all the benders in dorm 9 are unaffected by the Sozen's Comet explosion. That's cool as hell! And no problem, I think I might have jumped the gun in signing up for two different roleplays so A little time to ease into it might be best anyway.

Cheria (right) is a small town girl who was afflicted with a terrible sickness when she was very young. Meeting Sophie changed that however. She recovered almost instantly from her illness due to Sophie's magic and gained an undeniable talent with her own, and what does she do with this magic? She acts as a healer for her small town and helps the militia keep the hostile border safe. Seven years later, she's started a nation-wide relief organization after her adventure with Sophie and Friends, a great connection to the element of generosity.

Hey all! I'm just wondering if you are all still interested in this. I know it's taking a while to get the RP started but I've finished school until next year so hopefully the RP can still get going. @RunsWithSquirlz, I am still waiting on a character from you. No pressure, but I can't get the RP started unless you provide at least one character.

So I finally got around to making the other character I said I would. I don't know how many of those subjects you'll allow, so I named several and you can choose which ones you want to go with. I'm assuming both hybrid and combined bending would be more advanced classes, if you'd even allow either of them in the first place.

Name: Saito Kobayashi
Gender: Male
Age + Subject: 57/Hybrid bending (teaches dual-element benders to combine their elements), cooperative bending (combined bending efforts using small groups), physics, geology
Bending Ability (limited to two abilities): Fire/Earth (Lightning, lava bending and a variant thereof he refers to as molten earth bending)
Appearance: Tall, long grey hair and beard. Sturdy build. Looks much older than he really is, and favors baggy robes and sandals. Usually wears browns and dark oranges.

Personality: Calm most of the time, although he can get excited when he sees his students excel or display enthusiasm. Generally tries to let his students come to solutions and learn lessons on their own rather than telling them everything, and as a result favors practical exercises over lectures. He does enjoy open discussion as long as everyone involved is actually interested. While he usually doesn't explain things directly, he will still try to be helpful in guiding his students towards an answer, and appreciates students who ask questions, even if he doesn't usually give a straight answer.
Backstory: Having originally dedicated his life to mastering his bending, he eventually found himself fascinated by the things he could do when he combined his elements, and ended up becoming a knowledgable scientist as well. He comes from a poor family, and growing up he learned to hide his emotions so the rest of his family didn't have to worry. In time, this became replaced with a sort of natural calm, and he rarely feels negative emotions with any significant intensity.

Degree of Control over Elements: A master firebender and an exceptional, though not great, earthbender. His strength is primarily in his ability to combine his elements, typically by melting down earth and then using it for lava bending, a technique he refers to as molten earthbending.
Dorm # (F1-F10): F10, or wherever else, really

@@Dji,

Still interested, and kinda happy it's been delayed a little~

To put things into perspective, my oral exam (with practical parts) starts in 2,5 hours as of writing this, and I'm not sure if I'm going to explode from nervousness or adrenaline~

So I took this personality-test... And apparently, I'm most like Fluttershy~
2015- edit - not too much has changed, but now I'm a wee bit more like Twilight~

A very interesting character. For the subjects that he can teach, Geology seems like the better option along with that combined bending class. He'll be in Dorm F10.

@@Zhooves

That's right. You said you had an exam today as well. Good luck with that and please don't explode. That would be bad form to explode before an exam. :P

Of course I'm still interested!

Also if Squirlz is worried about her teachers position, since Scribblegroove's character is being an offensive bending teacher then they could split the training for it like we did for defensive bending. Scribblegroove mentioned his teacher being more transition to offensive, so we could use a more full assault/offensive teacher; that and the more bending types we have to instruct the students the better to match their needs.
