Guest November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 (edited) I honestly don't understand all the hate for the Call of Duty franchise. Is it REALLY that bad it's being made out to be by a majority of people, or has it just become another cliché to hate on the Call of Duty franchise? I, for one, really like the franchise. It delivers what it needs to deliver = a good and solid single-player, fast-paced action, adrenalin pumping gameplay and so forth. I mean, sure, the series have had its share of black sheep, but what game series hasn't? I can safely say that even though the launch for CoD: Ghosts was terrible, it was NOTHING compared to Battlefield 4's launch, and still people seem to call out Call of Duty more than Battlefield. What's up with dat? Edited November 23, 2014 by Guest
Moonlight 7,291 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 Some people don't like it because of how every game seems the same to them, how popular it is among young kids who yell and scream over the mic in multiplayer, and people just need something to hate on. Personally, I don't play it but it can be pretty fun when playing with others. 2 matching setups with my bff pathfinder
Twisted Cyclone 🚓 6,269 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 I don't hate the franchise itself but I will say that I think Call of Duty went downhill when Ghosts and Advanced Warfare came out. That's why I still play Black Ops II which is my favorite Call of Duty game. 1 Country and Rock fan | Car fan (especially police cars) | Weather Pony | YouTube | Twitter | DeviantART

Frostgage 7,982 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 Since it's the best-selling game in its genre, it attracts the more casual players. People think that hating on it makes them superior. Black Ops 1 is one of my favorite games ever.I only play games to have fun, I don't really care that much about other factors. 1 Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. RavenholmZombie 1,330 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 Warning! Opinion below. Contain your salt! I do not like CoD, mainly because I've had several bad experiences while on Multiplayer. They all involved some underage racist prick who kept screaming in the microphone at the top of their lungs. I've also been DDoS'd by several people because I kept killing them. If you're a CoD player who follows the rules and doesn't act like a total fuck face, then more power to you. 3 RavenholmZombie - Brony since 2011
The Mint Pone 2,294 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 I think it's that call of duty always releases very similar games. They rarely do anything new yet they are still extremely successful games but games that are innovative and different don't do nearly as well. Also a lot of the fan base has some pretty bad eggs :I I don't use a mic when playing cod and I mute everyone before the game starts because I dont like listening to those kinda people. That said I do like the games! I'm glad they changed the game mechanics for advanced warfare.
Megas 28,229 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 (edited) A lot, People hates what the series has done to the industry, even though it's not the game's fault, but rather the corporate suits in charge of many publishers(Activision included). There's probably more people might hate it though While it's not my favorite franchise(though it used to be back when it was in WWII), I do think it's still a great franchise and I still enjoy it Edited November 23, 2014 by Domon Kasshu

Skullbuster 1,906 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 heres the thing, as long as they keep selling, they will keep being made, i guess people dont like how similar titles are, but when you look at it, several changes are made between titles, and usually the story modes are always entertaining, CoD hate has been a thing since MW2, so its just something ive learned to tune out My Let's Play channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy14-AEEHdfj5QQAlYtB1_A Need a guest Rapper on a song? talk to me!: http://mlpforums.com/topic/103097-guest-rapper-for-you/ NEW SONG:
lomk 20,666 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 (edited) I'm going to bring up something I haven't seen yet: CoD is very much about the individual player instead of working together, which is why I LOVE TF2. It's about working as a team to reach a common goal. CoD is about going off, doing your own thing, getting your K/D ratio up...has anyone noticed that there is no K/D ratio in TF2? Yeah, just another example of how TF2 isn't just about you - it's about the other players too. Go off and try to get your imaginary K/D ratio up and odds are your team is going to suck. There's that and the other points above this one that have already pretty much been beaten to death (formulaic, same game, cash cow, "new" one every year). I don't hate CoD. If it's your thing, then power to ya. I just can't enjoy it the way other people do. Edited November 23, 2014 by Space Woona 2 I refuse to let go until you're impressed. VulpineTaco 525 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 Every game since 4 was the same sort of generic military BS, terrible PC optimization, overly sensitive hit detection, etc... That being said, Advanced Warfare is a great leap forward, and I think it's really fun! 1 "For every loud and idiotic kid in front of a computer, there's a quiet and passionate kid in front of a computer." --Einstein on Video Games,2014
Ianpiersonjdavis 514 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 Well, being a history buff, my dad loved them back when they were about World War II, but after that he stopped caring. I liked the first Modern Warfare, but that was about it. The repetitive nature of the games and the frequencyy with which they come out, due to the cash cow status of the franchise doesn't really help, nor does the extremely vitriolic player base both young (like 12 year olds) and older player who throw temper tantrums and act like 12 year olds-I'm not saying that there aren't decent CoD players, but it's this kind of behavior which drives people away (the reason I quit and uninstalled League of Legends because it's NOT fun dealing with that kind of crap). Then there is the fact that other companies drive their franchises away from what originally made them fun and popular in an attempt to appeal to CoD players and reach the same kind of sales numbers as those games while alienating their fanbases, not understanding that if CoD fans wanted to play a game like Call of Duty, they would buy and play Call of Duty. ShadowPirateX 600 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 The fact that the series barely does anything different between releases is a major contributing factor. Personally, I've never been interested in the series. Video games are a way to escape into surrealistic fantasy worlds. Why would I play a game where I play as an oridnary run of the mill soldier, when I can play as a badass over-the-top cyborg ninja? Plus, I find the Call of Duty games to be very boring. 2 "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" ~ Optimus Prime

Not_active 732 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 Yeah, I agree to some extent. The Battlefield series aren't much different when it comes to innovation, also the story has been terrible in the two last games. Battlefield also gets more respect and stuff, but it seems to me that they're moneywhoring like a madafaka. Andaasonsan 3,205 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 I don't hate it, but it just never seemed all that appealing to me from what I've seen. It seems to be focused mainly on first person shooter multiplayer deathmatch. I often find that tedious, and when I do happen to feel like it, there are plenty of other games that provide that without being so narrowly focused. Application REJECTED! Pinkamena-Pills 6,840 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 (edited) The "hate" or whatnot against COD will not die til the series does. Tho for one it feels like your killing cardboard boxes compared to a shooter like Halo or CS. But really, some people just want CoD to change, a true evolution(which may or may not be possible while keeping what makes CoD, CoD), or, atleast not be about being a one man army by default, 'Advanced Whatever' tries, but..i won't be surprised if some other shooter takes it's place as something people look forward to every year in the next 5yrs or so. But hey, maybe in 2045, we can have CoD: Ultra Advanced Skateboarding Ninja Assassin Destiny 3..then people will stop hating COD Edited November 23, 2014 by Pinkamena-Pills Oatmeal, are you crazy?! [NULL] 907 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 The last Call of Duty I bought was Black Ops 2, which I actually kind of enjoyed. However, I probably won't buy another Call of Duty title. It's not that I'm immediately dismissing it as bad just because it's Call of Duty. One big problem for me is that unlike something like Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, or hell, even Call of Duty 4, there are no dedicated servers and mod support anymore. No new Call of Duty titles will form a community, and people will stop playing as soon as the next Call of Duty comes out. The campaigns aren't as exciting as they used to be. Modern Warfare 2 (despite it having a story with more holes in it than the protagonists) seemed great at the time, because we haven't seen anything like it before in Call of Duty. It still had linear scripted levels and setpieces, while still having a good amount of interactivity. Unfortunately over time, the wow factor of the now clichéd setpieces favoured a heavy use of canned animations, limiting the player interactivity to pressing F to trigger cutscenes, engaging in painfully familiar firefights, and occasional scripted follow-the-leader "stealth" segments. I also don't like the idea of playing as a redshirt, when I could feel like a badass in a game like Crysis or Metal Gear Solid (I know that's not an FPS, but you get the point.) The reason why the whole redshirt thing worked in earlier titles, was because it gave the feeling of survival in a war. Dying fast worked because there was a risk in not taking cover. Now (as you've probably heard over and over again) it's just a twitch shooter. Thankfully, it looks like more shooters are giving the player more exploration and tactical freedom. You know something's wrong when a sequel to Homefront looks more innovative than the newer Call of Dutys.

A goat 323 November 23, 2014 Share November 23, 2014 I agree, it is very overhated in my opinion. It's kind of funny when people bitch and moan about how COD is the same thing every game, but don't bat an eye when pokemon does the exact same thing every year. However, COD is still a mediocre FPS.
