Post-rock is basically rock instruments doing things atypical to rock. Stunning pieces of emotional and at times large music. Have another well-known example: Explosions in the Sky.

Explosions In The Sky count as Post-Rock, cool

Damn maybe I have been listening to more Post-Rock than I had originally thought

Karl Golden was just as big of a fan of GNR as me so I followed of the covers he made... Then he made this...
This Song is beautiful...

Yello.

Ever heard of FamilyJules7x? He's a YT user that remasters some nostalgic video game music into kick-ass metal!

Found him a little more than a year ago.

Hell yeah! Love 'em. A mix of nostalgia and, well, good metal.

I love practically everything he does. He does a great job at translating the original to metal. Especially the medleys. My favorite one is the MGS medley, but that's probably because of all the memories I had with the games. Strange how I've never played the first one, yet I'm already in love with the story....

Here's some Mariachi Metal for ya:

Well since the Rock thread got bumped up

Might as well leave some stuff here

Since Metalcore has been previously posted

I'll leave a Norma Jean song here

And a Propagandhi track

They opened at the Rise Against concert that I was at

I think that they are a really awesome band

Time for me to get into another bit of crazy talk. Time to plug some math rock. Why is it called "math rock?" I think you'll find out.

no math rock is not about math it's more complicated than that

First, a guitar and drum duo by the name of Hella. Their drummer, Zach Hill, actually does drums for Death Grips, an experimental hip hop outfit I like a lot. I sometimes forget that he's part of this group too. Amazing playing on this track.

And now another duo by the name of Giraffes? Giraffes!. Another really solid band, who released an album called "Superbass" (kinda) before Nicki Minaj was even known.

Math Rock? The hipster is strong in this one

I've only heard of it

But I haven't listened to any of it until now

It sounds different, but different in a good way

So I just bought "The Sufferer and The Witness" by Rise Against

I keep telling myself to stop buying music, but I can't resist ;_;

Anyway, pretty good album, I'll give my thoughts on it once I listen a few more times.

Isn't it though? There's all types of obscure rock subgenres, like math rock and noise rock and WAIT DID SOMEBODY SAY NOISE ROCK

Providence duo (again) by the name of Lightning Bolt. Bass and drums and nothing else. Gorgeous. Also, the vocals are recorded through a telephone mic hooked to the drummer's mouth, fed through a huge amount of distortion. Their live performances are also incredible.

My favorite math rock is emo with math rock influence. The easiest example to go to is American Football's self title album.

There's only really mellow hints of that "math rock" sound, usually with the guitars. Still good, though.

I HAD TO FALL TO LOSE IT ALL BUT IN THE END IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER /WRISTS

TTNG is another emo-math band that put out a new album this year, "13.0.0.0.0." Really lush and pretty stuff, and in my top 10 albums of the year so far.

My favorite album ever from my favorite band ever. The imperfections in Tim McIlrath's voice somehow make him sound even better.

Here, have some unrelated music.

Rise Against are probably the greatest modern rock band in existence

The imperfections are a traditional thing for Hardcore Punk

The genre is known to not have cleanly produced songs

Okay...here's a little review of "The Sufferer and the Witness" by Rise Against

Overall, it's a very solid album, there aren't really any bad songs on it, which is a very good thing obviously. I think the only small problem I had with it was that maybe some of the songs could have been a little longer cause the songs just seemed to fly by too quickly. Overall, I'm gonna give it a 4.25 out of 5.

I respect your opinion and all

But Rise Against are a Hardcore Punk band

And it's kind of a Hardcore Punk thing to make songs that aren't really long

The songs are supposed to have that feeling that they just fly by quickly

Yeah I realized that after I wrote that lol, but I tend to like longer songs more than really short songs, but that's just me. They are great songs though, don't get me wrong!

Eh really to me it depends on what kind of genre it is, if it's something like Hardcore Punk or Metalcore then I don't expect it to exceed 3 or 4 minutes in length, but if I'm listening to something more Progressive-y or Sludge-y then I expect it to be a little more longer. But anyways I feel like posting Porcupine Tree since we've mentioned Progressive stuff in here before

Even if they're alternative rather than anything, I can't believe this thread hasn't got any Foo Fighters in it. Have some of the underrated stuff from ESP&G. (My favourite ever rock album.)

I've never been a fan of Foo Fighters personally, I guess they're a little too soft for me or something. Although I'm not much of a fan of alternative rock usually I guess. I dunno.

A lot of their stuff is almost completely acoustic, so I know what you mean - but there's plenty of stuff to head-bang to :P Everyone's heard The Pretender, but there's also Cheer Up Boys, Monkey Wrench, the like.

On a non-Foos note, I agree that Rise Against are freakin' awesome. Except that almost none of their songs remain in the same tempo, so I can never run a treadmill to their songs :3 Sufferer and the Witness is definitely their best album.

Hahahahaha Foo Fighters, I used to love them but now I just don't like them as much as I used to, though I still think that Everlong is an amazing song, especially the acoustic version

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO_15bcZTq8

Also here's an Incubus song, because I feel like leaving one

It would be awesome to see them live
