Made a quick scan and search of the forums and realised with a note of astonished horror that there are NO DISCUSSIONS ON READING/BOOKS. What would Twilight Sparkle have to say about that?!

Anyhow: what was/is the last book you read/are reading?

I just finished Vurt by Jeff Noon. Surreal, visceral and kind of disgusting... It is not for kids so I will not say too much about it in case any younger forum members get Curious (teehee...) - but a bit of an acid trip of a book. Not for the faint of heart, but unputdownable.

Now I am halfway through Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Been meaning to read it for years. Extremely disquieting, which is pretty much what I expected.

So... What are you reading?

One of the best books I've ever read is Magician by Raymond E. Feist. It's a fantasy epic of massive scale with a memorable plot, excellent characters and an immersing world. I've recently been reading the Conclave of Shadows trilogy (also by Feist) and am up to the third book. It is such an amazing series, every moment of the first two books is mesmerizing. I cannot recommend Feist's works enough.

OH MY GOSH! THANK YOU! I was looking for a book thread! I am currently reading Witches Abroad by Terry Pratchett. He's not very well known in the States but if you get the chance you should read his novels. They are usually fantasy but are written to be funny. He typically takes normal story tropes and turns them on their head and its really clever.

OMG... I am British and I LOVE Pratchett! I grew up with them; my dad used to read funny bits of his Discworld books as bedtime stories when I was a kid. The witches Discworld books are fun, but my favourites are Guards! Guards! and The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents.

As for books, I loved Goosebumps when I was a kid, I still have my collection of books to this day. Although nowadays they just sit there gathering dust.

I seriously love the Septimus Heap series.

marcia2.jpg?pictureId=2809559&asGalleryI

it has some of the most bad ass characters, all of them endearing.
my favorite has got to be Marcia (pictured above), but only because she's such a tsundere xD
She's also what they call the extraordinary wizard, which is basically the best on there is.

the stories themselves for the life of her apprentice, Septimus Heap.
who was stolen from his family as a baby and raised in the young army, which is basically the evil dictators using children as cheap soldiers. which brings us to the young princess Jenna, who was saved after her Mother was assassinated by Marcia who left her to be found by Septimus's father who had gone to get some herbs from a great witch who lives with her clan in the nearby forest.

so he finds the child, brings her back and they raise her thinking their child was dead.

these books tend to have a lot of dark things goin on, but they always manage to be humorous.
the author really has a gift at story telling in this regard and I'd take this over Harry Potter any day.

*shots fired*

my favorite book in the series has got to be book one.
it does a really good job at showing who each of the main characters are.

and it has some of the best scenes with Marcia and Aunt Zelda, hahaha those two hate each other.
but their so funny together xD

it's such a huge series, and I can't wait for the new book "path finder" to come out.
Magyk_map.jpg
this world is so massive, I mean each book expands on the original map, especially the first two books.

the characters in these stories live in a place called the castle, a large city surrounded by large walls.
with it surrounding landscape dotted with many notable locations.
Like the port, full of cut throat thieves and bandits, the marram marshes, filled with strange creatures that would litterally kill you as soon as look at you o-o.  but it's also where the character, Aunt Zelda lives with her cat.
a72R2wA.jpg
She used magic to turn him into a duck so living in the marshes would be easier on him. xD
and let's not forget her friend Bogart,
65NEvRW.png
he's kind of a grouch, but he's a pretty endearing character.

the woman herself, Aunt Zelda is from a long line of keeper who have watched the island for generations and kept watch over the temple where the legendary dragon boat lays in sleep, (for details on that, read a book.)

She is particularly know for her almost obsessive love fore cabbage, it's like all she cooks.
but our hero septimus loves it, not very many other people do though xD.

I haven't even talked about my favorite character, Marcia!
She's...... kinda like a cross between Rarity and Twilight sparkle, now that I think about it.
She's crazy smart and spends her time studying magic, and has a huge library.
but one the other hand, she's crazy into her fashion and how she dressed.
where she nags and complains, but she cares.

She lives at Wizard tower at the castle, she was apprenticed to the previous Extraordinary Wizard. Alther along with Septimus's father (Silas) who was up for the position of extraordinary wizard.
Alther was killed along with the Queen. they come from a society where the Queen has more power than the king.
and the king kinda just runs off on adventures, (which is how he survived).

Alther made Marcia the new Extraordinary wizard with his dying breath, and her and Silas never got along after it, because he resented her. he ended up poor and too many kids. and Marcia ended up rich and famous.
but even with all the bad feelings between them, I think I'd be shipping them if not for Silas being married. xD

____
I've rambled enough, I'll be watching this place for new book stuff.
hopefully people use it. this'll be nice. :3

YAY! Its so hard to find Pratchett love where I am! :D I'm sad I didn't find out about his books until about 2 years ago! My favorites are Interesting Times and Men At Arms!

Te-he-he. Pratchett is known in each world of multiverse. I believe, he is known in Equestria too.

Haha, I guess my naivete involving the multiverse is showing. :)

Do graphic novels count? If so, the last book I finished was Watchmen by Alan Moore. If they don't count, then the last book I read was the The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams (well, technically, I read the whole trilogy last). Both are fantastic reads, and if you've never read either of them; I highly suggest you do so.

Hi there Scream Lucid Dream.

We actually do have a couple of book threads here in the Media Discussion section. :)

Here's one on "What book are you reading?"

and the main book thread aptly named "The Book Thread". To discuss favorite series / authors / etc.

So I'm going to be locking this thread as these others are more established.
