Celestia's Birthday

Cower in their homes, hiding under the blankets as they await the inevitable nitwit walking up to Celestia to ask 'So, how many candles do I put on this thing, anyway?'

Never, ever ask a mare their age. Never.

Well, I'd garner one of these two postulations:

1. Nothing as there is no significance as birthdays hold none; outside of Pinkie Pie's shenanigans.

2. If they do anything, probably not much as Celestia may not want to dictate to much attention her way.

Seeing what they did for Rainbow Dash's birthday (Pinkie Pride), I guess they/Pinkie Pie throw an even bigger party for Celestia?

To be honest, there hasn't really been any mention of it. Maybe they don't make it public knowledge, and ponies never stopped to think about how they don't know?

Though, what if, the Summer Sun Celebration is her birthday? She's a celestial diety with strong ties to the celestial body that helps make up the seasons/weather/etc, Celestia herself could be mystically tied to the long days of sun, or could've even orchestrated the seasons around that central day (not to make her sound full of herself).

I mean, if I wanted an arbitrary central time point to center the lengths of the day/night cycle around, I'd probably choose something relevant to me, then not tell anyone the actual reason it 'is' relevant if it became unimportant in my mind to share.

Or maybe she orchestrated the longest day of the year to be the anniversary of Luna's banishment, as a way to mark and remember the day, and her birthday is unrelated entirely.

I believe they do say that this is the case, but you can't really make any particular day the anniversary, that's just the day it happened on.

Is it just me or is it messed up for her to create a national holiday centered around the saddest moment of her life?

IMO. SFyr has a point.  If you are starting a year, it makes sense to pick a day w some significance.  On the other hand, in Princess Twilight, C says something to the effect that to her the Summer Sun Celebration was always sad, the day she banished her sister & she thanked T for making it a happy day. (I'm too inept & shiftless to look up the exact words)  She never mentioned it being her birthday.

The only birthdays I can recall  Cutie Mark Chronicles T hatches Spike the day Dash does her 1st Rainboom. (same day as Secret of My Excess Sweet & Elite has T's birthday.  Pinkie's Pride has Dash's birthday & anniversary of moving to Ponyville.

AFAIK, these are the only birthdays mentioned (unless there is something in one of the books or comics)  So, unless the Summer Sun Celebration is on C's birthday, there is no mention of a birthday celebration.

There's Pinkie and Gummy's birthday in Party of One, and A Friend in Deed takes place on Cheerilee's birthday, the day after Zecora's birthday, and 132 days before Matilda's birthday. Baby Cakes shows the cake twins' (zeroth) birthday. For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils shows Sweetie's fifth birthday but that hardly counts because it didn't have anything to do with the present. I think that's it.

But yeah, there's no reason at all to think Celestia's birthday is the SSC, unless Luna picked that day to go crazy 1000 years ago. And it's been at least one year since the first episode, as of Princess Twilight Sparkle.

Not sure why, but I have a feeling that Celestia barely even acknowledges her birthday, and that no one in Equestria knows it except for Luna, who might share a cake with her in the evening.

This is exactly what I think.  I'm 29 and I barely acknowledge my birthday.  In fact, my last birthday came and went I didn't notice.  (I know I'm probably a bit odd, though.)  But imagine being several thousand years old.  Birthdays would be a completely arbitrary, meaningless thing by then.

Come on guys, ponies will put up the most elaborate decorations and feasts for Celestia just showing up.

Do you really think they'd let her ignore her own birthday? As some have said, maybe just no one knows what day it is, but I can't think of why that would be.

Yeah she would defo hire Pinkie for a good birthday bash. On the whole she seems pretty down to earth to be honest. I'm sure she wouldn't want a big fuss.

Older women don't like giving out their age...so I doubt Celestia will be too thrilled with the amount of candles on her birthday cake.

xD

I would really like their to be an age joke about Celestia in the show. It would be pretty funny!
