movies/tv Will "Internet TV" catch on?

Netflix, Amazon and Hulu have their fans, and with cable companies like Comcast and Dish offering their TV services through the internet now. Will the concept of streamed TV become the standard? If it means positive things, then I'm all for it. The idea of being able to stream live TV on not just your television, but your phone, tablet, and PC can open up new audiences to it, as well as make HD viewing more consumer friendly. Plus, pausing, rewinding, and recording live TV is also an amazing innovation IMO.

I don't even watch television so much anymore... it is all the same. If anything, I put it on if I have to wait, and will literally just lay back and watch Spongebob. Everything can be viewed online now through internet, so internet is really just the way to go now.

I'm mainly talking about cable television moving to an internet streaming format, without requiring some big fancy cable box. And can be available and PC and Mobile too.

Yeah, things are already moving in that direction. Of course, my family has a cable box that is used only when they watch Walking Dead... pssh.

I still find it awkward to watch TV on the computer. I still find it comfortable to watch on the TV so I hope there will be dedicated internet TV's.

They are coming, "smart TV's" as they are called are becoming more and more common and will become standard in a few more years or so.

I used to have a TV, but I had to leave it behind when something happened. And to be honest, I don't miss it that much.

Yeah I think it will. Technology just keeps going forward in positive* directions and "Internet TV" doesn't seem to have any faults. Maybe it's not ethical if you have a slow internet connection, but internet speeds also seem to be advancing.

Well I certainly hope so... I mean how else am I gonna watch stuff I miss on T.V. that doesn't turn up on Netflix or Hulu Plus... Sure I got DirecTV now but it's not the same as before? Some channels I remember seeing are either blacked out or no longer there. I heard The Hub was shutting down and is now Discovery Family... So Like that was just the beginning.

I basically stopped watching TV when I got rid of cable.  150 channels with nothing on, just non-stop reality TV garbage.  Anytime I want to watch something I stream it, so I get what I want to watch when I want to watch it.  The cable model is obsolete in my opinion, only good for filling time with cheaply made garbage programming.  I think it will die and be replaced by streaming services, as long as Uncle Sam doesn't get in the way.

I can see streaming TV eventually replacing cable and broacast TV. In fact, I think it's already happening. US Congress passed a law some time ago that says the US has to keep broadcast channels on the air so that's why we HD airwave broadcasts, now.

We're big streaming fans at our house. My wife still watches some shows on CBS and my daughter's a huge Survivor fan but, other than that, it's mostly streams now. I mean, between Youtube and Netflix we don't need anything else.

TV sure has come a long way from the days of black and white TVs with antennas picking up only six broadcast channels. Looking back it all seems stone-age primitive but fifty years ago that's all we had. I can't even imagine what life was like for people in an even earlier time who only had radios.

I stream TV from our internet directly to our TV, get all film channels / sports channels etc, I don't watch 'normal' television anymore

There's also the rise of services like Sling TV, which is basically Internet cable, only cheaper.

Traditional TV/cable is the "Walking Dead" and they just haven't realized it yet. It's going to go the way of the land-line phone (except maybe satellite.)

I'm pretty sure It's all going to be through the internet soon.

I have cable now but only watch it like 10 hours a month. The only show I watch on it every week is Better Call Saul. I'll also watch MLP season 5 when it comes out, but that's really about it.

EDIT: Haha- I had 0 instead of 10 hours a month up there for a few days before I noticed. ^_^ I think That was the dumbest sounding typo I've made here so far.

I thought it already caught on? I mean, my friend's family just sold off their TV and my family only keeps our TV for the Wii, the news, and the occasional movie night. There's really not much need for the TV anymore.

I pretty much considered the TV programm of today to be useless 90% of the time. I usually watch TV to catch Football (soccer) games and to watch my movies and play my Video Games. I actually love my TV though, it's a standard HDTV and it looks really good when you have a Blu-Ray player.

I think the future lies in the internet, because that's where i get most of my entertainment from. Most of the time i can everything i want there, without having to fear that i get bored.
