If Twilight never became an Alicorn...

Wonder why that's referred to as dark magic at some point in the series, is it dark magic or alicorn magic?

If you're referring that the magic that gives off that dark/purple bubbly aura from the horn, then it's likely dark magic, though it was used in the S4 premier, so it likely needs some clarification still.

I mean, I think the animators were just being super lazy and didn't want to make something unique for "alicorn magic".

But even then, they had this unnamed goodness magic in their repertoire and still used the dark magic graphic...

Twilight's Kingdom would have been a more suitable way to introduce an Alicorn Twilight. When Celestia, Luna, and Cadence give Twilight Sparkle their magic, it changes her into an alicorn.

First of all we wouldn't have people in the fandom that want the one who made the decisions' head on a pike.

Anyways, some of the humorous moments revolving around Princess Twilight wouldn't have been as comical with her being her normal, unicorn self.

  • 1 year later...

New to watching the show, watched em in rapid succession one after another, mostly thru season 4 currently, tho I will be most likely caught up soon. I also think it is kinda dumb making Twilight an alicorn, being the show hints that Princess Celestia and her sister are a heck of allot older than 1000 years, so going by that logic.... Twilight will outlive all her friends, either they are not putting that much thought into the show, or they are either planning that the alicorn twilight is temporary, OR all the rest might become alicorns aswell.... I unno, like i said I'm new to watching, but even so, I've watched em all in one go and i still feel they kinda rushed the Twilight alicorn thing.... Sorry if this thread is old and junk... just wanted to toss in my two cents

much less adorkableness.
those wings made her much more adorable.
imagine a less adorkable Twily?
unbearable.

and on a more serious note, probably not better, seeing as she gained magic potential.
she probably wouldn't be able to store the magic from Celestia, Luna and Cadance, much less defeat Tirek.

Well, in S4 Princess Twilight would have been a little different & Trade Ya would have had to feature Luna getting stuck instead of Twilight.  Twilight's Kingdom would have had to be different. IMO, none of the S5 or S6 episodesn would have had to be changed except Celestia would have set the missions instead of the Map Table (& arguably the question would have been "How did Celestia know to send them on the mission?")  Maybe Luna could have set the missions based on stuff shelearned from dreams.

If Twilight had never become an Alicorn then the show would have gotten old and repetitive. The newer seasons are significantly superior over the older ones, and a good story can only go on for so long.

What many people don't seem to understand is that, in a story driven show things SHOULD change. The same old shtick over and over again is not the way to go for a successful show.

Well she will no longer have any power no more and thus be useless.

She would be just like any other regular civilian in ponyville.

Then the Mane Six would have to find a alternative to keep their alliance.

Still Celestia could somehow manage to get Twilight her powers in a different way.

The following episodes would be very different:  "Princess Twilight Sparkle," "Twilight Time," "Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3," "Twilight's Kingdom," *maybe* "Trade Ya!," "Castle Sweet Castle," "Amending Fences," *maybe* "What About Discord?" (although I can't really remember if it's relevant), and "The Cutie Re-Mark."

I'd probably enjoy her significantly more in the last three seasons, because without being a princess, maybe the writers wouldn't feel the constant impulse to put her on a pedestal, and maybe she'd show interesting flaws and hints of personality more often.

The annoying "test" subplot from the S3 premiere wouldn't be there.

The S3 finale would be marginally less terrible - though still awful, unless it was something different entirely.

Those saying the show would stagnate confuse me, because I thought that it did stagnate regardless of Twilight becoming a princess, with the added kicker of Twilight becoming a lot less interesting.
