gaming Should copies of Gamecube games still be made?

Not talking about new games rather copies of already-made games. My cousin is interested in Super Smash Bros Melee but it's craaazy expensive, even for a copy of the disc without packaging. Even though it's the No 1 best selling game on the Gamecube, it's pricey because it's in such high demand, my cousin says.

This would be a good source of profit for good ol Nintendy, so they really ought to consider the idea.

Same goes for other hits like Paper Mario.

If the retro market asks enough, it could be possible.

Personally I'd love more GC reprints, mainly for the hard to find Skies of Arcadia Legends and Eternal Darkness, two games I'm still actively looking for at a decent price

Is it really the number 1 best selling game on the Gamecube though?  Didn't it come with the system?  You can't 'sell' a game that came with the system.  If you count that as selling it, then of course it's the number 1 best selling game, since everyone with a Gamecube would have 'bought' it.

It was only bundled late in the console's life. Likewise, it was the only game still selling on the console after the new consoles came

Oh, right, it was a launch title but didn't actually come with the system.  But it was one of the few games available at launch, so that meant most of the people buying the system would buy that game as well.  Nearly the same thing then.

The Gamecube had some seriously nice gems hidden away on it. It always had the superior versions to any multi-plat game that came out, despite it supposedly being inferior hardware. Shame it was so overshadowed, and now look, it's games demand a huge price amongst players.

To answer your question though; I don't think it'd really be wroth Nintendo's while. Game's all reach a point where they'd just be loosing out on a cost-per-retail if they continued to sell it in store. Only a certain niche of gamers would really buy them, and even then it would just drive their prices back down to near minimal amounts because they'd be easily obtainable again. Also, personally, I kinda like going into a retro game store and finding a rare classic amongst the shelves. It's like a treasure hunt. :P

The issue like some others pointed out is that the market for games for older systems is small enough that it's very difficult to make enough on the older system games to justify the costs of printing disks.  Add on to this the fact that console companies don't want you to continue to play the old systems, they want you to upgrade to newer systems.  In a way, they don't want you playing those old games, they want you upgrading.

However, I could see two feasible options for distributing older games.

First is what they do now basically, which is offer popular older games on newer systems.  You see re-release titles every so often on newer systems, especially in the form of downloadable games.  For the vast majority of the nostalgia crowd, this is sufficient.  You can download several of your old favorites into your console and play them when you get nostalgic, and still have to have the newer system to play it.  A win-win from the company's perspective.

Option 2 is I could actually see a place in the game world for a third party print on demand game seller.  The way it'd work is you'd have a company contract with one or all of the three game companies, and people could place an order for an old game, it'd get printed on demand, and sent to that person.  Basically adopting the Amazon book printing setup for video games.  It's not a terrible idea.  Issue is (1) a company actually doing this and making enough profit on it to keep its doors open and (2) the game companies all going along with it despite negative impacts it might have on newer game sales.  Major issue with this, however, is for the vast majority of games, a used copy is going to be far more affordable than any sort of price a company like this could offer games at.

Probably not because Gamecube is an old system. So the best thing to do is get a used copy or for super cheap you can burn your own games however that's pirating. Nintendo no longer makes hardware that supports Gamecube games so tough luck. Though we can always hope for Gamecube games to come to Virtual Console.

I don't think this would be a good idea at all, the reason could be one similar to why not many companies (if any) make cartridges for pre-disk consoles, there isn't really a good reason to make them; why make new disks for an old console when you can bring them to the online market and make more money that way?
