Making an MLP:FiM RPG TableTop Game, but need help!

Hi Everypony! I'm TBOE and I'm trying to construct a legit MLP:FiM Tabletop RPG. I started working on this a short while ago, but I still am missing a lot of elements (no, not the elements of harmony xD).

https://docs.google.com/document/d/10EngoyROpcRVRUVAt_sk9V9Lslav9eNGNgpWaH6GAEs/edit

There I have the basics of the RPG. I have no idea what else to add to feats.

Hopefully it all doesn't seem confusing... Please reply and help what else I could add!

Sorry, i don't have docs.google, and don't want to get it, either.

So, i'll ask several things instead:

* What is your main base(s)/inspiration(s) for the rpg, ruleswise?

* What is the potential amount of violence in it?

* How much is the Mane 6 intended to be involved?

* Feats .... that's like special abilities, i assume? Have you covered the "usual" ones? (The ones that the Mane 6 displays)

Good luck, you may need it.

:)

Tiina,

I made the google doc so you wouldn't have to create an account or anything to view it =3

But to answer your questions:

1 - My main base is Maid RPG; Maid is very simple and easy to learn, and since MLP is cartoony and childlike, I figured that would be best.

2 - I don't intend for this RPG to have violence, but there is a stat and health score for 'fights' or anything; however, that stat and health score is intended for "Unexplained Rolls" like if a pony flies into a tree or something.

3 - I intended that this RPG would be a way for ponies to have their own original stories, but I was going to have the Mane 6 as pre-generated characters for first-time players who just to get the hang of the mechanics before they make ponies of their own. Now, as for the Mane 6 being part of a story-line, that's entirely up to the PM (Pony Master or Game Master)

4 - You are correct; feats are the special qualities of a Pony. I have not covered the usual ones, but I intend to for the sake of adding more feats for players to have.

Nope, the link leads me automatically to a "sign up/sign in" page ...

1: Ok, i'm totally unaquainted with Maid Rpg(and i know about several systems), but i think i have heard about it.

From your description, i agree, it should work well.

2: Ok, then you assumably goes for the more adventure- and social roleplay thing. should work really well too, if done well enough.

(I hope i don't sound patronizing .... )

3: Sounds good :)

So, the feats that you said you wondered what is missing ...

You haven't covered the mane6 ones yet, so it could be a good idea that you started with them.

My thoughts went at first towards one that has been displayed, not just by Pinkie Pie, but also by Derpy:

The "Sudden appearence" of showing up anywhere, anytime.

I'd classify it as a kind of "toon" ability.

It's actually going to be a tabletop pen and paper RPG for a whole family to enjoy =3 You basically are a character in Equestria living your life and making your own adventures with others.

Pinkie Cannon... good idea =D

As for dragons, I'm not sure how to add them, being that they are a race generally away from ponies and other races. any thoughts?

I'm guessing you're using 3rd Edition rules here.

I have some recommendations.

First of all, instead of making up original ability scores, you should just use the core D20 Ability Scores.

Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha. I know it sounds like a cop out, but everyone uses them, because they literally cover all bases. Trust me, nobody will care if you use these.

As for races, if you use the core ability scores, the races will fall into place relatively easily. Just remember that if you use Silver Pegasi (aka what people call Alicorns), the base character level should be increased by at least 1 for experience calculations.

Now, for Feats, those can be things you'd see in the show. Like Bull Rush (some kind of charge move, probably limited to Earth Ponies), Spell Focus (obviously, limited to those with Unicorn traits), some kind of dash ability to use in the air (Pegasi or fliers only).

Skills would be the usual fly, sprint, intimidate, and the like. But there wouldn't be a Swim Skill, for obvious reasons.

As for Dragons, well, that's a difficult subject in any D20 system. But if you're talking about making playable characters like Spike, then it would probably be more of an offshoot Dragon race, one that actually gains levels instead of age categories (kind of like a Half-Dragon).

And of course, the ACTUAL Dragons can just go on the same system as D&D. Obviously, these would be limited to monsters and NPCs in most cases.

These are just some thoughts on the matter. I never really considered doing a MLP D20 game, but hopefully this helps.

Actually, I wanted to make this game simple as possible, being it's very childlike and cartoony. So I based my inspiration core rules off of Maid RPG, which uses rolls from d6's. As much as I would love to create MLP:RPG into a D20 system (I'd more likely base that RPG off of 3.5 rather than 3.0), I wanted to make a quick-to-learn fun RPG.

But its fun to imagine the Mane 6 as D&D characters xD I already have character sheets made base on them

Well, 3.5 is essentially 3.0. It just slightly tweaks the rules for balance, but they're essentially the same system.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Maid RPG. I thought you were going fot more of a D20 system, because of the topic name.

How could the topic name lead to a D20 system in particular?

Have you even heard of White Wolf's Storytelling system? Or the Tri-stat system? GURPS? ... or even ... Basic Roleplay(ing System)?

..... Sorry, ....

Once, i used to shamelessly advert my own rpg system, but i don't do that anymore, and i won't in this case, since he just asked for feats, and not full game rules ...

So, let's suggest feats for him, and nothing else, unless he asks for it.

You suggested these:

"Like Bull Rush (some kind of charge move, probably limited to Earth Ponies), Spell Focus (obviously, limited to those with Unicorn traits), some kind of dash ability to use in the air (Pegasi or fliers only)."

... I think i'll suggest another Pinki Pie one:

Unexpected hiding place: Usually used by Pinkie Pie, but has also been used by Fluttershy ("fluttertree"), and i think, also by Silent Snake(Cardboard box(different world)) ....

Unfortunately, that's the first thing that came to my mind when I read the first post in the topic.
