When someone says "God bless America" in a non-ironic way, what I hear is "America über alles."

 

Really wanted that out of my system.

 

I'm sure there are plenty of American bronies here with their heads on straight but still, you should do something about those creeps. They're really making you look bad.

@, have you heard the phrase "Deutschland über alles"? This phrase is very much associated with Nazi Germany. American patriotism can get so... rabid that I can't help but be reminded of Nazi Germany's rabid nationalism. But before you jump to any conclusions, a reminder is in order.

Heh. This post reminded me of this comic.

I think pride in one's country is fine, but it is problematic when you start to... for instance insult all other countries or perceiving one's own country as perfect.

 

Edit: I don't think there's a problem with "God bless America". But I do think it's a problem if someone means it as "God bless America and only America".

Yah I get what you mean but they usually mean just god bring use good fortune but there are people who take it to far and think we are some holy land and are nationalistic from a divine point of view.

The Unpopular Opinion thread was locked for sometime now; that perhaps partially explains the existence of this thread.

 

Think that's somewhat a shame but at the same time understandable. Somewhat surprised it wasn't locked earlier to be honest.
