ggg-2 3,555 May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 (edited) One thing about Shining Armor i've noticed, is that his hooves have unshorn fetlocks like Big Macintosh, Trouble Shoes, Fancy Pants and Pony Joe. Moreover, he's one of three unicorns to have hooves like this, the others being Joe and Fancy Pants, while the other ponies with this distinction are Earth Ponies. And as far as i've noticed, he's the only Guard to have hooves with unshorn fetlocks too. But unlike Big Mac and Trouble Shoes, Shining Armor isn't based on a Clydesdale Edited May 5, 2015 by ggg-2 Don't be a nerd. Join the herd! The Awesome One 1,315 May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 I guess the creators of the show wanted him to look a bit different. In universe the explanation for this could be that he just likes his fetlocks like that?
simba86 1,541 May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 male ponies have had unshorn fetlocks since G1. most male ponies are like that because it helps seperate them a little more visually from the females 1 It's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees! Pastel 7,630 May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 For aesthetic reasons I suppose, I don't think they have a particular meaning.
Wind Chaser 4,768 May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 Most of the Royal Guards wear shoes anyway, so it's hard to tell. I think they made Shining Armor different because he's the captain, and commanders have to be distinguishable from the rank and file in one way or another.

sweetolebob18 728 May 5, 2015 Share May 5, 2015 Yeah, it's probably a guy thing, like IRL most girls shave their legs (In the USA, at least) & most guys do not.
Batbrony 16,087 May 8, 2015 Share May 8, 2015 It's to emphasize his rugged good looks. Actually... I don't think you're wrong. He's basically been the show's "Prince Charming" character ever since he first got introduced (not counting Blueblood, he was a faux Prince Charming :okiedokielokie:), and that along with his quite tousled mane (quite unusual for a military pony, especially THE former Captain of the Royal Guard) both were probably intentionally chosen to make him look more masculine. Of course, his masculinity loses some of its effectiveness when one considers his obsession with corndogs. Sorry Shining, not even you can pull off that look. :comeatus: Cadance prefers the hairy legs. Well she certainly didn't choose him for his brains. 3 "You'll hunt me. RarityFan01 2,444 May 8, 2015 Share May 8, 2015 It's probably a sign of masculinity for ponies. I don't know. I know not all stallions have that. Maybe it's an alpha male thing? Rarity Fan Club My Ponysona My Drawing of Rarity
