Do classes always take this long to start? Skylar thought to herself, face down on the desk, tapping her hoof on the floor. This is so boring. She wanted to get outside and fly around. She didn't want to be cooped up in this smelly old classroom.

It wasn't even that smelly, she just was complaining to herself. It was engineering class, and she was bored out of her mind.

Aurora walks in to the engineering class and takes her seat. She looks to be starring off into space. Her ears twitch registering all sound around her. Her mana sight allows her to see the classroom and the ones inside it. She however remains quiet until talked too by another.

The hall way was quiet even the sound of ponies could barely be heard that was at least until a young unicorn came bursting through the main doors "Oh goodness I'm late very, very late. Ah I'm TARDY!" Said the unicorn in horror as he started galloping down the corridor. It was at this point he ran into a grey unicorn in a hoodie.

rune fell to the ground. "oh, sup." he said as he fell to the ground. he got back up, and dusted himself off. "so, whats up? im rune!" he grinned, and held out his hoof for a hoof-shake. "who're you?"

'hooray for friend-making!' rune thought to himself, 'this looks like a smart one!'

Jackie Trade awoke suddenly from the desk she had crudely installed in the office in the back of her workshop. She heard voices. Why was she hearing them? Surely today was... Nope. Her head jerked up, her glasses clattering to the floor. No, today school was in session and she had been sleeping through it. Checking her watch, she shrugged. Only twenty minutes late. Not too bad. Grabbing a breakfast burrito, she threw it into the microwave and started to heat it as she gathered up her vest and fallen specs.

Taking her sweet time, the teacher rook a bite of her now completed breakfast as she pushed open the door. Standing tall, dragging her hooves, with little splotches of oil covering her coat. She was up all night making repairs around the school and it took a toll on her. Sure, the school was supposed to get outside contractors to do it, but why not save a little money and hire from within? So what if she wasn't 'licensed'. Have you ever seen an organization do everything by the book? Frankly, it's why they haven't gotten her in toruble for being late to her own class.

"Morning, class! Sorry about being late. Had a long night last night." Jackie pulled out her attendance roster and looked over the students. Lazy as she was, she had everyone fill out name tags so she wouldn't have to talk. "How is everyone doing on this... fine day?"

Aurora sniffed the air. 'I smell mechanical grease. The person with this scent must be an engineer. Papa would like her.'

Aurora just sat quietly. Her ears twitching as she listens. "A bit bored. Not much to do between classes. Is that High grade industrial oil I smell on you?" She says when asked.

Skylar scowled at Aurora and Jackie Trade.

"What kept you, teacher?" Skylar demanded. "Time is valuable. I don't want to waste it. You should let us out of class early for this. And what the buck is the difference between "high" grade industrial oil and every other kind of oil?" She demanded of Aurora. Skylar did not want to be here. She detested school, especially after being forced to move to Canterlot from the school she was doing just fine in in Manehatten.

"Don't worry, it's legal. I'll wash it off later." Jackie suddenly sat up and focused on Aurora very intently. After a moment, she shrugged and leaned back, taking a bite from her burrito. "It might be high grade. I think. Didn't really pay attention last night. I'll tell ya one thing it's not good for..."

Jackie lost her smirk halfway through making it. She really need to think before she spoke. She blamed it on exhaustion. "Eh, you'll learn about that later. And the difference between the oil grades is next week. Keep quiet."

Aurora chuckles, "I was just curious. The smell was stronger then what papa uses. That is why I asked."

Aurora quiets down afterwards. 'This teacher must be tired. Her mana flow is a little slow.'

Aurora listens to the class. She doesn't really like making non-friends on the first day but being raised in a Magiteck house hold has given her an extra understanding of how their made and ran.

"Today isn't gonna be much of anything other than going over what we'll learn while class is in session. It's your standard deal, you know. One chapter a week, quiz on friday and a test once a month. Your quiz will consist of text from the book and the test will be two-day where you will build something using what you learned. It's a hooves-on class, so we'll also being looking at several machines, taking them apart and putting them back together throughout the week. Sound good?" It was a rhetoric question, but in every class there was always one student who raised their hoof after she was finished, challenging the curriculum she set.

"Oh, and extra credit... I'm pretty lenient. I'll explain a bit more about that later, as well. Any questions?" She took a large bite of her burrito, waiting to see who would badger her.

Aurora was listening while her hooves glided over the title snd index pages in the book. She then raises a hoof. While she waits to be called on, she carefully pieces together her question. The question is short and to the point. She also hopes she doesn't have to wait long.

"What is the chapter for this week? I was hoping to get a start on it early."

Aurora says while looking spaced out towards the blackboard behind the teacher. Aurora doesn't like to show off and her father never really talked much about the projects he worked on. But Aurora had gotten a bit of knowledge from her parents growing up and never showed a need or desire to speak like a know it all.

"Well, it starts off kind of heavy and not so heavy at the same time. Schematics will be breached in the first chapter, which is the heavy part, as well as the basics of engineering, which is quite easy. Nothing too bad." She sat up a little straighter and adjusted her glasses. "Now, you will not be able to work too far ahead in this class since much of it is hands on and not everyone has the opportunity to get practice. You can read ahead, but that's about it. If you have access to a workshop, good for you. Maybe think about inviting some of your classmates so that they get the practice if they need it."

Lightning growled.

He looked at the time and saw classes would be underway.

He checked what he had, Engineering, he couldn't care less.

He skated down the hall and kickflipped of the stairs.

He made it to the classroom, he opened the door and stepped in. He walked to the back with his board in hand, he threw his bag down and sat down.

Jackie gave the student a bored but annoyed look. "Alright, class, another thing I wanted to cover. I'm not gonna kill you if you're late to class every so often. You're not my kids, so I won't give you any grief. That's the school's job." She then stood up, walked over to Lightning and snatched the board away from him. "However, if you show up later than I do, you're gonna get written up. First day, no harm. Just be here on time." Jackie dropped the board onto its wheel and pushed it into her office. "You'll get that at the end of the day. You know better than that."

@,

Lightning glared at the teacher.

He could already feel bad blood between this teacher and him. Well today was going GREAT wasn't it?

He'd lost his board, and respect from a few ponies. He now remembered why he hated being around others. He just didn't click with other ponies and he doubted he ever would.

Skylar rolled her eyes at Aurora. Well, she was a goody-two-shoes.

She snickered as Lightning got his board taken away. She had a feeling she and Lightning would get along well. She pulled out a little juggling ball that she always kept in her backpack to throw around. She began throwing and catching it under her desk.

"I'm not gonna bother repeating myself. The syllabus is on the desk in front of you, with everything important spelled out. If there's something you don't understand, ask me now." Jackie finished off her burrito and took a swig from a water bottle. She was still tired as hell. She then had an idea. "Alright, social time! Get to know one another while I make some coffee. I'll assign groups later, when we start our first project next week."

Turning the coffee machine on, she waited for the water to heat while she sat back and listened to the students chatter.

Lightning Strike waitied until the next pony say down, then she flew up to the front of the classroom.

"Hi there, I'm Lightning Strike, I'm 18 years old, I like flying really fast and hanging out with my friends, I guess I don't have many dislikes other than ponies that are really mean to me. My hobby is flying really fast, and I have a pet falcon." She started to walk back to her seat, but then said "a little warning, don't get on my bad side" then she walked back to her seat.

"Hey, hey, threats don't fit in an intro." Jackie poured her coffee into a large mug, twice the size of a usual cup and began to stir in creamer and sugar. "I don't want anyone thinking they have to guard themselves here. It's class for Celestia's sake, not the streets. Not even the backstreets of Canterlot..."

Aurora just sits in her seat quietly. Her hooves going over her book as if reading it. She looks to the one who made the threat and then shakes her head. 'Fillies these days. I thought I left that back in Ponyville, When I left Diamond Tiara and Silverspoon behind. Guess that attitude is found anywhere.' She thinks while continuing to read over her book.

Her wings are fidgety and she looks like she wants to interact but not sure how to approach them.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to be a threat..." She said, lowering her chin onto her desk. "I'll watch what I say next time..." She started flapping her wings lightly, but quickly, creating a mini tornado on her desk. She stopped flapping her wings a paid attention to the teacher when she started speaking

LS (lightning strike) heard what aurora just said. "'Filly?' I don't mean to be rude, but I am no filly, and I didn't mean to make a threat, it just came out wrong ok?" She said, slightly annoyed. Then she turned her attention back to the teacher, thinking to herself: "I've already made a bad first impression on my fellow ponies, how can I turn this around?"

@@Little Red,

Lightning turned to the pony talking to him.

"Lightning. What do you want?"

He was focused on other things at the moment and didn't want to bother with talking to another pony. He noticed it was the mare that had snickered when he lost his board. He closed his eyes and let himself cool off, before waiting for his answer.
