I gotta wonder how Celestia's ratings are looking with her subjects

I think my Boyfriend can answer this question:

Thats actually very agreeable .  Cadence would be best if Celestia were to like die or something. But until then Celestia I still think is best leader.

lol that would be awesome but yes i do realize i did i think i should make a topic.  about it ...

if Celestia isn't the best fit to be rule.

Really who is?

They are probably gonna make another alicorn be the ruler.

Twilight wouldn't be soo bad but i wouldn't trust her completely yet...

Would they really let Luna rule alone after what she tried to do? I get she was nightmare moon when that happen but without Celestia who knows what she would  she would do

Cadence i guess could rule but she might not be capable of lowering the sun and moon but that could also be for twilight but who knows . I honestly wouldn't think that Twilight and cadence ruling together wouldn't be soo bad.if they are capable to lower and rise the sun and moon.

Well, going into headcanon territory here, but I figure that there are four Princesses because they govern large branches of magic that are dictated by their cutie marks and by how they effect the Equestrian world. Celestia and Luna raise the Sun and the Moon. If we use our Earth as a base; we can assume that Equestrian life wouldn't exist as we know it without the Moon and wouldn't exist at all without the Sun. Cadance and Twilight govern more psychological forces in the forms of the magic of Lovers and Friendship. I don't think any of them could truly take over for any of the others simply because that's not what they're meant to do. True, Celestia raised both the Sun and Moon for the millennium that Luna was banished, but could she have done so forever? I doubt it. It's like what happened in Magical Mystery Cure, it's not what she's meant to do. It's dictated that day and night are supposed to be shared by the two of them. And because there are two of them, I don't think that either one of them could solely rule Equestria on a permanent basis. Not to mention that the court of Equestrian public opinion still holds Celestia in high regard; I don't think they'd accept any of the others unless Celestia died. But then, Luna's the only one who could take over; as Cadance rules the Crystal Empire and Twilight has her own castle and potentially her own Provence; and the opinion of Luna could still be shaky.

@@Nightmare Muffin, Princess Celestia's problem is that she is supposed to be doing things "off-screen" that justify all that nonsense that goes on around her. We, the audience, are supposed to see her as this competent leader that is always busy and stressed out, making things run smoothly but we'll never see it for some reason I can't imagine. And when she is on-screen she either needs to be taken off commission so that stuff can happen without her interfering or she gets turned into a moron/jerk, like tends to happen lately, because people think that it's funny.

Blame the writers and not the character. There is a "quintessential" Celestia that is a competent leader but will never appear to the audience because she's boring.

For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out.

And I'm just getting started.

There is a lot more. The part how it was Twilight and friends that learned to befriend Discord rather than keep him in stone as Celestia did. It is weird that Discord doesn't hold more favoritism towards the mane 6 over Celestia who never understood friendship fully. The way the mane 6 went as delegates to fix problems in Crystal Kingdom and how shabby Celestia and Luna's work was in sealing or killing Sombra.

I'm assuming Celestia's work lies more in politics and management though this hasn't been shown. Her only non-political role is raising the sun and moon which Twilight could do now.

I suppose, but she was cutting it awfully close. She couldn't use her horn, so she'd have to fly over. Even if she truly had things under control, traumatizing Treehugger and her other subjects just for the excitement isn't particularly kind either.

ummmmm....Tree Hugger calmed the Smooze, and he reassembled and drew back his goop before Discord threatened to toss Tree into an AU. Meaning that Celestia would've had full use and control over her horn at that point, to simply pull Tree away with a levitation spell. But. She. Didn't.

Even as Discord was monologiing. She didn't.

and Tree sounded pretty scared when she looked into that AU and asked what that....puppet thing was.

And grand supreme alicorn Kai didn't help.

Hmmmm...true, and to make matters worse Celestia made it sound like she was well aware that something like that would most likely happen if she invited Discord, yet not only did she invite him, but she didn't even come up with even the most basic plan for when a situation would arise. No matter how you cut it, she's equally responsible for what happened at the gala. Also, imagine if Tree wasn't there to calm the smooze.

There's also the fact that you just see her standing in the corner, after all's been said and done. Just standing there, looking useless as usual- she might as well be twiddling her thumbs, if she had any.

She had planned for things to get crazy, by inviting Discord, and had no backup plan for when things went from crazy to dangerous, you're right. That, in itself is a dumb move, for many reasons. 1: her history with Discord. He was the ONLY villain that, when introduced, Celestia was genuinely angry with, and you could see it by her tone and body language. 2: she personally had to intervene, sending Twilight's letters back to her, when Discord was WINNING in corrupting the mane 6 (nearly all of them, mind you), and on the brink of creating his chaos capital of the world. 3: He almost wasn't "reformed" by Fluttershy- when Celestia had faith that he would be. And look at all the damage he caused along the way to that "reformation". 4: She's put trust in Discord before, and had that trust betrayed when he did something unexpected. Like teaming up with TIREK!

Point is, you can't blindly trust Discord, or give him the benefit of the doubt. You HAVE to have a backup plan or three, because things WILL go south, when dealing with him, even on a good day. Celestia is the main pony who should be realizing this, given all her experience with him and being betrayed by him, or just failing to have safety measures in place, even.

"Democracy had never really been considered as a political practice in Equestria. Celestia was basically a benevolent ruler, and she was certainly willing to be guided by other ponies, But at the end of the day, any elected official would have to be able to demonstrate the power to raise the sun and moon every day, and keep life on the planet from ending forever. This is a fairly effective barrier to any candidate, as nopony, regardless of political belief, is going to consider the “Let Everything on the Planet Die” Party."

(that is from so long and thanks for all the ponies)

Her ratings are just fine as her subjects are content with the long successful  and prosperous rule she has had. Her very presence inspires confidence and promotes stability which is something the three tribes never had before they asked Celestia and Luna to be their princesses.

Honestly there is no one around who is better suited to run Equestria at this point and time, and by large the country has been at peace more often than it has been, and the show has shown her handling diplomatic relations and attending to matters at court on occasion. The fact is Celestia is a risk taker and a bit of a gambler, but she takes calculated ones based on what she knows. So I would hardly say she is unfit or is not competent to rule because she may have made some questionable decisions and some mistakes in the past.

Twilight simply flat out lacks experience and the last time she raised the sun and moon was a flat out disaster. Too much of a green horn and the show pretty much requires her availability as she is the main character.

If Celestia goes, than Luna is pretty much a goner as well, and if not Luna certainly is a bit rough around the edges

Cadence is kind of busy running the Crystal Empire so she is out of the picture, but she too lacks the experience.

Point is, you can't blindly trust Discord, or give him the benefit of the doubt.

It may be risky to trust him at face value at times, however one is going to have trust him and give him the benefit of the doubt if one wants to truly be friends with him.  Fluttershy and Celestia both understand this concept even if Discord's concept of friendship is still underdeveloped at this time.

Pretty sure Discord will help the mane 6 defeating a villain they couldn't have defeated without him (or something similar).

That would justify why Celestia trusted him...

know who else can control the sun and moon? simple unicorns (including Starswirl). In fact, they were doing it long before Celestia and Luna took the stage, according to the Journal of the Two Sisters.

And the tribes also have their own theories on alicorn magic, so I'm thinking they could also whip that out at any given time. No  real need for Celestia, who constantly puts her people in danger.
