Equestrian Excess

A roleplay about corruption caused by both power and wealth.

 

Setting:
In Equestria, there has generally been a steady and healthy quality of life enjoyed by all ponies regardless of race. This state of affairs has been maintained for over a thousand years under the wise guidance of Princess Celestia. However, history tells us that it was not always this way. There was once a time when the three races of ponies bickered and squabbled, with the Pegasi and Unicorns subjugating the Earth ponies into little better than slavery. Things have changed greatly since then, and between the races there now exists a stable equality.

But in the past decade, things have begun to change. The stability which has been maintained for a thousand years is now threatened on almost a weekly basis. Though all challenges by villains both large and small have been defeated, the appearance of so many threats has set in motion events both obvious and hidden. For a thousand years, the nobility of Equestria have only needed to court the favor of a single Princess, whose wants and desires are well known and somewhat easy to satisfy.

However, the return of Princess Luna has thrown  the carefully crafted web of promises, betrayals, alliances, and deals into a state of flux. Previously minor bloodlines have seized the chance to court the new power in Equestria before older and more established houses could orient themselves. As such, those who were once powerful now find themselves challenged for the first time in centuries by a myriad of upstart competitors to the Long Game of Equestrian politics.

The arrival and coronations of the Princesses Cadence and Twilight Sparkle have only further shredded the order of things. Behind the facade of peace and harmony which the nobility consistently presents to the outside world, a shadow war is being waged. Instead of swords and shields, this conflict is being fought with money and treaties. But it is no less bloody for the lack of armor and soldiers. Already several prominent Noble Houses have been reduced to less than nothing, ground to a pulp in the sudden rapid fire events of the Long Game.

Now is the time for the ambitious, and perhaps the foolhardy, to attempt a climb onto the ladder of power. Whether a simple worker or a high born lady, now is the chance of a lifetime to advance oneself. But remember, nowhere is safe. Nothing can remain hidden forever. No one is trustworthy.

Plot Summarized:
In the midst of the upheval caused by the events of the Friendship is Magic series, a battle of politics is being waged across Equestia, hidden from view. If the conflict were to ever come to the attention of the Royal Princesses, all involved would be severely punished. The nobility might even be dissolved. So secrecy is imperative. The player characters can be of any background. The only thing they need to have in common is a desire for power. The events of the roleplay will mainly be in Canterlot, but it can go anywhere in Equestria if appropriate. The GM will be playing the role of the Royal Princesses and npcs as necessary.

Rules:
1. No god-modding, meta-gaming, and the like.

2. Keep all content within the Forum's rules.

3. If you want to change the plot for everyone, bring it up with me. I'll listen.

4. One character to start with. (Subject to change.)

5. Be courtious to others.

6. Check to make sure someone didn't post something involving you.

7. Please don't ignore posts regarding your character.

8. Discuss character connections before posting them IC.

9. Charcters can be related to the Princesses on request to the GM. Good explanation required.

10. If you read the rules, put the phrase Drugs are Bad in your character sheet.

I'll be applying with one of my OC's but I'm altering her personality and talent to fit this RP better. Assuming I'm accepted, please do not reference the link in my signature. Drugs are bad.

Character Sheet:  

 

Name: Mirror Image

Age: If she were a human she would be around the age of thirty. 

Pony Race: Unicorn

Role/Job: Wife of a noble.

Apperance: Mirror is a lithe Unicorn of slightly above average height. Her coat is a deep blue (nearly purple) and her mane is a very light shade of pink. Due to an unfortunate foalhood accident, Mirror will never be found without her cloak and mask on. She goes to great lengths to keep whatever scars, injuries, or disfigurements she has hidden from view. Incidentally this also keeps her Cutie Mark obscured, so there isn't much information about her talent. Her mask is of the Venetian style. While the mask shares the same pattern as the one in that link, it is blue and gold, to match her coat and her eyes. The mask is also covers most of the right side of her face. The cape that she wears will vary but it will always cover her entire body.

Personality: To most ponies, Mirror is an introverted and quiet mare that appears to have a flare for the dramatic. In conversation she is polite and timid. Behind closed doors however, she is snide, sarcastic, and obsessed with restoring glory to the family that she married into. Unlike her husband, who only has talent for the military, Mirror is skilled in conversation, coercion, and blackmail. She seems particularly skilled in getting ponies to do as she pleases.

Bio: Mirror was born to a lower-ranked noble house. She grew up in Canterlot and attended Celestia's school for Gifted Unicorns, where she passed but not without some trouble. Thanks to her Father's influence she was able graduate without scandal and was quickly arranged to be married to Snowy Fields, another Unicorn around her age that was showing quite some promise in the military. The House Mirror married into used to be much more influential and has steadily declined due to scandals and poorly chosen heirs over the last few generations.

Name: Gloomfury Dovegreen< his clans name.
Age: He's 29 but I'm making him 35 in this RP.
Pony Race: Earth pony
Role/Job: Former griffon military, turned mercenary/ bounty hunter and then pirate. Currently in between all three. 
Appearance: Rosewood coat,mane jet black shoulder length in a unkempt ponytail, lifeless gold colored eyes and a griffin claw scar on the left side of his face.  No Cutiemark and he has canines along with molars. Making him a omnivore.  He has one knife strapped to his left foreleg with the names Sheila and Elly carved into the handle.
 

Personality: Reserved, sarcastic, charismatic, a constant fighter of authority. But he will gladly help out anyone who is in trouble. He's loyal to anyone he calls a friend or to anyone who looks up to him. Sometimes pessimistic. And he has very mean and explosive temper, and his rage is sometimes hard to stop. But he has a long fuse and doesn't get mad easily.
 

Bio: He was found as a foal buy his adoptive griffon mother. From their she and her family raised him as if he was their own berth chilled. So he has a strong bond with his clan. The Dovegreen clan is a very influential military family in the griffon kingdom who have connections that span all inside the kingdom along with a few placed in Equestria. Cause of this Gloom enlisted into the griffon military out of respect for his mother, who was also in the military, and his clan. 

 

He served for a few years before he was discharged for a reasons he dose not like to talk about. From there he used his skills he learned from his family and the military to become a freelance mercenary and a part time bounty hunter. cause of that he made a name for himself as someone who would complete any job that he took., along with being one of the best you could hire.  But when he met a captain of a pirate ship that was where he really got his reputation from.  

 

It didn't take him long to gain the respect of his captain and crew mates that he was the best choice as the ships quartermaster. Either by speaking or his actions in battle, he showed he was a strong individual that you would want as an ally and not as an enemy. 

 

Throughout his time at sea h gained a reputation that made everyone believe this. He was a hero to some and a villein to most. But it has never been said that he's harmed a civilian, not even by mistake. 

 

After years at sea he decided to travel of the land of his birth, taking one a few jobs and bounties here and there to earn enough to feed himself. He also made many friends that could help him in many ways. Now he seeks to grain more respect and influence, despite his reputation. His goal is to build a force so strong, in more ways then in strength, that he could start his own colony. One that can be totally independent the it wouldn't have to rely one other countries.

Tempest is acceptable, an as a Royal Guard he will have established role in politics. Exploit your proximity to the Princess.

Name: Sir Gold Silverhooves Trotstein

Age: 37

Pony Race: Unicorn

Job/Role: Estates owner that is also a cover for a smuggling empire. A noble from a ancient family with bloodlines stretching to Equestrias founding.

Appearance: Tall, slim, with a white coat and blonde mane and FABULOUS moustache. Usually wears aristocratic clothes and mane arranged in 18th century style (ya know.. like mozart and stuff)

Personality: A classical nobleman on the outside. When meeting with important figures he displays the usual over-the-top manners of a high-born, yet one should not be fooled by these acts, he is a ruthless, violent and compassion-less being on the inside.

Bio: One of the last members of the ancient House of Trotstein, a powerful unicorn-only family dating back to the founding of equestria. In time, the family made fortunes from large farming estates that produced expensive crops, exquisite juices and other luxury-grade supplies. With the growth of independent farming the families income started to decline therfore they couldnt rely on crops alone to keep their fortune. The answer was the smuggling of illegal substances such as alcohol. With the inheritance of his families possesions, Gold turned this illegal activity into an underground empire, much of the brewing taking place in some of the old plantations, producing strong alcoholic brews while still having geniune farms. Any inspection sent to his plantations would be bribed or threatened. Any tresspassers found on the property would disappear. The enitre workforce is loyal to him as anyone found plotting would be severly punished. Using his massive wealth he has a group of mercenary guards, fielding a private 'army'. His influence among the streets is also considerable as he has informers and spies all around canterlot nd other important hubs. His goal is to assure his Familiy's dominance throughout the Equestrian market and goverment. He looks back on the old days when unicorn supremacy ruled equestria, a part of him wishes to bring back those times.

Personality: Garra/Mot is a savage symbiontism formed between a Baby Dragon called Garra and an adult bear-beast named Mot. They are really agressive when someone comes to their territory but they can be really reasonable since Garra can speak (barely) the language of the ponies and Mot always follows Garra. 
Garra in her part tends to be aggresive at first sight but can be really greatful if you make her feel you are someone the duo should follow. She is very confident about Mot strenght (Which is actually a lot, even for a bear) and about her claws capacity (deep indeed but not as a sword). Her nature as a dragon is to take everything she likes and that includes shiny things and feathers, she loves feathers and wears a feathers crown. She has a unbreakable brotherly love for Mot and same from Mot to her.
Bio: Garra/Mot is a duo that lives in deep the Everfreeforest and have been reported a lot of times and had secret investigation for months: It came from nowhere, they are an unsolved and unusual symbiont, a bear and a dragon together hunting by techniques never seen before. Hypothesis about their origin are extense, some of them say that Garra/Mot are a escaped Zebra experiment, other experts say that they are the remanents of Discord caothic magic in everfree forest and tons of others have different explantations but non of them give proofs.
Days ago a group of explorers were attacked by what the only survivor assures that is A Bear and a little dragon who attacked them; in order to avoid future conflicts a troop was dispatched to the deep everyfree forest to meet the symbiont and escolt it (or trap it in a cage) for further experimentation.

I changed the bio to make it fit more to this rp, i would like to see my oc more like a follower of someone who is good enough for them (nice to Garra/Mot, they dont really care about the rest). It is more like a reclutable and really powerful-in-battle ally. Due their ignorance/child-like nature they can be really brute/aggresive but they will be loyal as well unless clearly betrayed.

Name: Phantom Dancer

 

Age: 22

 

Pony Race: Pegasus

 

Role/Job: Servant looking for work

 

Apperance: Phantom is of average height, but his build is very slim and toned. His medium length mane and tail are usually white, but he regularly applies different dyes to change its colour depending on his mood. His natural colour is grey, but he tends to apply dye to that as well. His eyes are bright green and have a slight shine to them, and his mane tends to drape in front of his face at times. He is often seen smiling.

 

Personality: Due to the loss of his parents, emotional instability that has been present since his foalhood, and a brief stay in a mental clinic to try and treat him of his instability and bouts of violence, Phantom is an interesting case. On the outside, he appears to be a quirky stallion with a slightly off-kilter personality and a fondness for brownies and a soft spot for foals and damaged ponies like himself. However, on the inside, he’s a much colder and closed off individual who keeps very few ponies close enough to call friends.

 

Bio: Phantom was a circus pony who wanted nothing more than to smile. With two sisters, a brother and his parents, Phantom knew he should be happy but he never really felt that way. He constantly felt lonely and depressed despite a loving family and being surrounded by other ponies. He always tried hard to master the routines his parents would go through and trained himself to be flexible. Eventually, he was given the chance to be part of the act and he felt happier, smiling for the first time, though it was short-lived and he went back to being his old self in no time.

 

One day, his parents were killed in an accident during an act, and Phantom had no idea how to deal with it, keeping it all inside where he thought it couldn’t hurt anypony. The result wasn’t pretty on the young colt. He became emotional and increasingly unstable, prone to moodswings and terrible bouts of violence. Eventually, he was sent to a mental clinic to be treated.

 

When he was released, he was saner, but definitely not the same. While he was at least happier and looked like he was happier, he started to seem like he was analysing everypony around him. Initially, he believed somepony messed with the net so his parents would die. In order to find the truth of his theory, he disappeared for several years, abandoning his old name and severing all ties with his previous life.

 

He would return years later as Phantom Dancer, though he rarely gave out his name. Instead, he maintained a level of secrecy, and carefully measured responses to divert attention away from him, from acting silly and harmless to giving out a fake name to satisfy an introduction. He also took up subordinate positions in order to appear less important and shy away from the spotlight more easily. Why he does so is known only to him, but he is willing to approach others, and ask to work for them if they are in need of his particular talents.

Name: Puzzles

 

Age: Somewhere between 25 and 35. (In human years. I will decide for a specific age if necessary.)

 

Pony Race: Unicorn

 

Role/Job: Journalist (writing for the Canterlot Post, or whatever you want to call Canterlot's newspaper)

 

Appearance: Puzzles has a dark blue coat. He has a messy manestyle with a dark brown color. His eyes are dark brown as well, with a shade of green occasionally shining trough. His cutiemark is an Interrobang.

 

Personality: To the outside Puzzles has a charismatic personality, though he might seem a bit cold, not really showing much emotions. He is usually polite and can be quite the gentleman. In a conversation he is a good listener. He usually tries to get as much information about the people around him as possible, while not revealing too much about himself. He generally keeps people at arm's length. This is true for most people except his close family and the few very close friends he has. Once anyone gets this close to him – which happens very rarely – he will trust this person with his life and be completely loyal. He sometimes seems sad or tired to the outside, but when asked about it he just tells people that he is fine.

 

Bio: Puzzles grew up in a rather average family in Ponyville. While he went to school, his parents were both working in ordinary jobs. They weren't poor and they weren't rich. Growing up Puzzles always wanted to get out of there, get away from his boring life, to see the big, exiting world. After he finished school, he eventually moved to Canterlot to study journalism. During this time he became increasingly interested in politics and decided to work for the Canterlot Post (or whatever) after graduating. He is always trying to stay as informed as possible about Equestrian politics and to be the first to know – and write about it – when something happens.

Personality: Smart, cunning, and mischievous. Likes to be in control of everypony around him. Enjoys plotting schemes and wants you to know it was him who outsmarted you. Loves flaunting his hi-life living over others. Doesn't like to get his own hooves dirty, but will when necessary.

 

He usually acts all kind and friendly in public, to maintain appearances. His father taught him to stand on the backs of others, and he won't hesitate to do so. Rumor has it he secretly runs some sort of criminal organization, but anypony that has tried to prove it mysteriously ends up "un-alived". Some say he even has plans for Equestria itself, and is much more evil than most believe. He might even be a supporter of Nightmare Moon as well... but those are unconfirmed rumors at this point.

 

Bio: Born in Manehatton, Ennex was raised by his father, a wealthy businesspony. His mother had run off with a young stallion when he was young, and he grew up in his father's corporate world, learning the art of deceit and ruthlessness. His father cared for his only son a great deal, and Ennex, while not completely spoiled, pretty much got whatever he wanted. When Ennex was old enough, he attended Manehatten's finest schools for business, where his father sat in the first row during his graduation. He went to work for the family company, making his first million within a year. When his father got sick and died, Ennex inherited his fortune and company, and began his own campaign of corruption...
