First of all, I see what you did there.

Second, I don't see how I was taking pride in it. I merely stated an opinion, not fact. Was it harsh? Oh, undoubtedly so. But, that's what I honestly think of the music. I don't like it. Though, I suppose it would have looked better if I worded it more politely. Oh well, water under the bridge and all that.

Fair enough and you weren't the only one who felt that way. As you said, water under the bridge  ;) Take it easy.

I know a lot of people on this thread don't like the Beatles' music it seems mlp-osurprise.png but nice to see a few others do.

mlp-trsup.png To each their own I know qAmP4.png hehehe

So, I can't dislike something popular or else it makes me musically ignorant?

lolwut?

mlp-dereading.png Yes you may never dislike anything ever because it will derp your music mind forever :omlp-dehappy.png

No feel free to dislike anything it's funny people should easily respect someone else's opinions on something.

Gangnam Style may have 2bn views, but it was brought in during this era. It was the height of 'viral' videos. None of that back before the internet.

Also to note, you may be comparing two songs, but when you check the course of their entire history you'll find that The Beatles severely outnumber this one PSY song.

PSY / The Beatles highest selling song:

Gangnam Style - 12,016,000

I Want to Hold Your Hand - ~12 million

Now, this may make it seem like Gangnam Style is still comparatively more popular, but I can assure you it's far from it. Because PSY has(on top of GS) managed to only attain a couple hundred thousand album sales overall. Compared to The Beatles who've amassed at least 264 million album sales. Although it seems this is severely undershot as general consensus points to singles sales being closer to '600 million - 1.5 billion+' over all time.

Now, back to the topic at hand, yes, the Beatles are slowly in decline as time goes by. This is just how time works. Bu that hardly means they're no longer immensely famous. You don't hear Bach on the nation Top 40 playlists, but there's no denying he's a highly famous musician. The popularity of something isn't measured in how many views they have on Youtube. It's measured by how long the world remembers it for.

To clarify, look at their popularity on the radio. Gangnam Style may have been a huge instant hit, but it's almost just as suddenly faded into obscurity. It was nothing more than a fad - a viral video. The only people who will be listening to it in 20-30 years will be our generation, looking back into the days of the early post-millenial hits. And yet people will still be listening to The Beatles at that same time. The Beatles held top spots on billboards for years. Decades even. They hold enough records to make Gangnam Style and PSY look like just another One-Hit Wonder.

My grand-nieces and nephews will still be talking about The Beatles.

YouTube doesn't define fame.

Yeah well I watched a Simpsons episode called ''Homerpalooza'', and it reminded me a lot about how I feel about culture these days, In it, Homer is stressed by the fact that Bart doesn't find his music ''Cool'', this included Mountain's ''Mississipi Queen'', Styx, and many other brilliant artists of the 60s and 70s. Bart tells him ''No one wants to listen to that music anymore''. So he goes to the record store, discovers many artists have overtaken them, so he gets tickets to the ''Hullabalooza'' festival, which is a parody of Lollapalooza, he tries to look cool among people by putting a Rasta hat on, but people think he is a ''Narc'', A Drugs Informant. So Homer eventually becomes a Stuntman who gets cannons launched at his belly, to his family's concern.

It features cameos from The Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Cypress Hill, and even Peter Frampton of Humble Pie!

This episode is my favourite by far, because it reflects on my personal issue of the generational gap and cultural discrepancy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homerpalooza See, this is what me and many other people are suffering. But you are right, Youtube doesn't define fame, Michael Jackson has sold Billions, and so have the Beatles, back in the day, they were famous, when MJ Died, everyone went on about it. So I guess it's just people's opinion.

The only victim in graffiti is the architect. Graffiti is not a crime.

Mhm, a great example. As time goes by, it's inevitable that musicians in the light will have their place taken by more modern musicians who define and follow the music of that time. Nobody really listens to Elvis anymore, and certainly not in the public light or amongst younger generations. And yet he and those of the time who even I cannot bring to name have been pivotal, pioneers of that musical generation.

I think fame and popularity are better defined by the amount of time you remain so, rather than how famous and popular you are at the current point in time.
