Pets for OCs

What are good pets for OCs, I mean what are acceptable pets for OCs?

You always have the standard pets: cat, dog, rabbit, rat, guinea pig, hamster, fish.  If you want something less typical the toy line has some ponies with cool pets that aren't too over the top: hedgehog, swan, duck...

 

Anything too special (like a dragon) or too powerful (like tigers or other apex predators) might be seen as Sue-ish.  Might be, I'm not going to say it always is.

Try to stick with things you could imagine having as a pet in real life. Snakes, rabbits, cats, dogs, birds even things like tarantulas. How about just, if you have seen it in a pet store before it could make a decent pet for your OC. Try to avoid large predators like lions, tigers, dragons, bears, wolves or any other magical beings unless their talent specifically relates to it or, in the case of dragons, the creature is with the pony as a friend on equal ground rather than a lowly pet. Having something like a dragon or a gryphon as a pet doesn't make all that much sense as they are seen to have intelligence just as ponies do so I would imagine those can't be pets but rather friends, having them as a pet would almost seem like slavery.

My OC is a sheep, and sheep are prey animals, so I find it a bit odd if a sheep had a pet dragon or dog, since those can be categorized as predators. I still wanted her to have a cool pet though, so I went with two axolotls. They're pretty simple and adorable, yet unique.

Well, I haven't decided for sure, but I think I'll be giving one of my OCs 4 cats, all in top hats, bowties and monocles. But that's just as a joke about his character.

My OC has snakes! I guess that's an easy guess, though. Those are her main pets, but she has lot! (Similar to Fluttershy!)

She's a Zoologist, studying animal behavior, genetics, behavior, etc. ~

I think OCs can have any pet in general Of course they can always be creative about whatever pet they choose to have

I was thinking about giving her a cockatoo as a pet, I just love birds (especially owls and cockatoos!) so I thought I'd use a cockatoo!

 

 

Though I was also thinking of a ferret or an otter since we have seen them in the show! (and I love both of those animals). Thoughts?

Cat, Dog, Rabbit, Bird, Guinea Pig, Chinchilla, Turtle, Squirrel,

Flying Squirrel, Fox, Arctic Fox, Mongoose, Mouse, Butterfly, Lamb, Iguana or Monkey
