I might be willing to join and might be able to keep up regularly, I am in the process of moving and finding a job so that's what will slow me down but I usually have my phone with me.

(with the world situation I can say his visions led him to the crystal empire where he will eventually encounter the group. I'm not sure if zebras are feared for racist rumors in this world or not. Also another note, his ability to commune with spirits also allows him to be used as a DM tool where he can get visions and what not.)

Tarot Card: The hermit

Roleplay-specific notes: Being that he would join later he is from the Zebra homeland far in the south, where his visions showed him of turmoil far in the north and what he could decipher as the crystal empire. So he traveled north, mostly on hoof except for what random transport he could find until finally arriving to encounter the group. 

Misc.: He is a potions slinger, if there are any type of potions you don't want me to use let me know. Types I've use before encompass healing, explosive, illusion and bottled light. I do keep count of potions so he does have to take time to brew potions between combat. As well as he will carry a scimitar with him for necessary defense. Unless we are using different weapon sets or something.

Ok, I've moved the story on a bit and introduced Chip's character. I'm going away for a day where I won't have internet access, but so long as the group stays in that area doing introductions and so fourth then there won't be any threat from the mutants (or anything else, for now.) The only thing of note is a battered sign at the edge of the city reading 'Ponyville,' and the city appears to have been quite badly damaged by something large.

I don't hold this as an absolute rule, but my hope was that everyone would post once every day or two. If you're too busy or otherwise engaged for a period of time, that's fine, but if no-one is posting and there is a decision to be made then anyone who posts is free to make an executive decision without further consultation.

 

Hmmm.... I really should write up a short list of rules and guidelines that I asked the good Magos for, but until then the general guidelines should be sufficient.

A quick correction for the sake of consistency. The monster (which I have mentioned to @@Chip Circuit due to his character's backstory) only caused madness and insanity, not any physical change (at least, not at the time he saw it or its aftereffects.)

Yeah my posts tend to include character knowledge from what he knows. He's considering it a corruption because he doesn't know if it's magic, viral or what have you.

Since @@Chip Circuit's character has a different backstory, I have given him a little extra knowledge about certain events through the messaging system, and that has given me an idea. 

 

There will be points in the RP where I will describe the effects that a character is feeling that are not apparent to others - certain creatures and spells have psychological effects, whilst some (particularly unicorns) are sensitive to magic. A Character's emotions may also influence 'real world' occurrences or what they perceive. I was thinking that I could occasionally ask players for updates on their character's mental state, and describe any effects on their mind, in private chat so that they can (try and) explain them to the party (or not) in their own words and actions.

 

Some examples, with private messages in brackets and GM notes in italics:

 

 

 

1. ( "How is your character Trivy feeling?" )

( "Happy." )

 

Dementors feed on happiness and are drawn to it

 

A short while later

 

A dementor looms out of the darkness, seeming to focus on Trivy.

2. ( "Your character can't hear or see anything amiss, but they feel a deep sense of wrongness emanating from the centre of the city" )

 

Somewhat apprehensively, Bramble kept walking along the street, keeping an eye open for trouble.

Catching a glimpse of something leaping at him in the corner of his eye, Bramble spins around to confront... an empty alleyway.

 

 

 

What does everyone think about this? My hope is to induce a nice Lovecraft vibe, with each character trying to explain highly intangible feelings, senses or hunches. And, of course, I will attempt to manipulate them (in a reasonable yet diabolical way.)

I've sent messages to @@Unicorncob and @@Chip Circuit, since Orion seems to be away for a bit I am going to have their character blend into the group until they comes back or leaves the RP, so no messages for now. I really must find a way to kill off all these extras....

As was stated, these will determine some of your character's powers later on, and you will have hints as to what they are in your messages. Sort of. I'm trying not to make it too obvious, as whilst your characters have always had the potential within them they will not truly understand their powers yet - they may never have used them before, or they may have used them without realising, or something similar.

He has yet to ruin a Bramble Plan by wandering directly towards the very thing they are trying to escape from, which is good mark in his books. That said, he now has the opportunity...

A quick note about combat:

 

'mooks' such as the mutated but otherwise normal-sized pony you can deal with and dispose of freely in conventional ways (close-combat, sword, bow, simple magic and so on) but if you want to attack a lot of them (with AoE magic or some weird idea) or do something rather off-the-wall then you will need to leave your action open-ended. For the benefit of consistent behavior, these enemies will only be attempting to charge at you, bite and kick you and pummel you into the ground - cautious and evasive fighting styles work well, brute force less so (unless you have a lot of it, as is often the case with brute force.)

 

If you want to attack the bigger one at the back then you will need to leave your actions open-ended. This will be the case with more skillful, powerful and dangerous enemies.

 

I will usually avoid god-modding, but I do reserve the right as GM. I will try and inform you in advance through private OOC, if possible.

I would like to check that I'm not throwing thing at everyone too quickly - or too slowly for that matter. I don't want everyone to feel too rushed, but equally I don't want the RP to run out of steam, so some feedback on how everything is going would be good. Also some feedback on your first 'combat' encounter with the various mutants would be good. I did make it fairly quick to resolve intentionally, and most similar encounters from now on will be more complex and challenging for the characters.

All shall become clear eventually. Probably. I do like players finding the answers to mysterious questions, but I also enjoy basking in the smug and superior feeling of being someone who knows exactly what is going on.

 

UPDATE: I've noticed that @@Chip Circuit's status states that they are going to an interview and so will be silent for a while. Since this could be a significant moment in the RP, depending on what everyone does, I'm not going to progress the RP until they are back. Talking with NPCs is fine, though.
