gaming Worst horror video game series you have played?

This means any horror game series. How did it affect (or rather, NOT affect you)? How cheesy was the plot and bad the atmosphere? And how much did you pay for it? Mine has to be Dead Space. Not only is it in a third person perspective (which ruins horror for me most of the time), It also gives you the ability to just slap half the enemies to pieces and only gets you about once or twice with it's horror stinger and jumpscare. After that it gets sort of repetitive.

Slender. I love the idea of Slenderman, I think it could be great for psychological horror, but often they all just rely on pure jumpscares and insta death to keep you 'on your toes'. I think it gets old after a very short while.

I love survival horror to much to really hate a game. But there is The Thing for ps2.

Its not a bad game, it has good graphics and interesting story and cool boss and monster design. But the gameplay is nothing for me. In fact, i never beaten the game and didnt want to because it was just not fun for me.

And all these really really cheap games, like Realm of the Dead or Zombie Attack. These are simply not horror games for me because they arent scary at all. They are just..weird..

Five Nights at Freddy's. Playing the demo of the first game alone, nothing scared me at all and it played like Night Trap on the Sega CD, not to mention the graphics and controls are rather poor.

If we're talking purely based on how much it scares you then literally every horror game I've played in the last ten years. Horror games don't scare me. In fact, unlike most people, the only thing that gets me is jump scares.

And I don't necessarily mean games made in the last ten years either. I've been playing a lot of older games too.

I played very few horror games because I don't find enjoyment in scaring myself to a heart-attack, so I can tell you about the only 2 horror games I have EVER played. The first was Slender which I only played because I was dared to do it. Now the game has kinda grown on me because it has been a played like a bazillion times by YouTubers, but back then, I shit my pants it was so terrifying. And the second was SCP Containment Breach. The games SCP's don't really scare me as much as the first one you encounter, SCP-187 I think it is, the statue. He just comes out of nowhere and hit's you with ninjutsu neck snaps. I'll tell you one thing I am never playing horror again unless if I YouTube and people ask for it. ;(

Dead Space. Why?

First it was all nice. In first game You were playing as slow, almost clumsy in terms of combat engineer who obviously ended up in wrong place in wrong time and did not belong there at all. Most of his weapons were just tools that he was able to use to protect himself. On higher difficulty level the game was challenging too (at least for me, I am far from pro gamer). Atmosphere was too pretty nice even if some ways to scare player were repetitive and eventually You were not fooled by them anymore.

But where first Dead Space was decent then it started getting worse.

Dead Space 2 - it was a nice game, really. But it was not horror at all. Isaac was no longer defenseless. He was deadly, in fact enemies should've run away from him, not vice versa. In melee combat he was smashing enemies like Hulk himself, in ranged combat majority of enemies were easy to be killed by kinesis. I've pierced hundreds of necromorphs with their own claws and left them hanging on a wall as a warning sign for their friends :please:

And that made game not scary at all. It was just oridinary 3rd person shooter, only weapons were more original than simple pistol, machine gun etc. Story was nice, Isaac's voice was good too, but where's the scary part? Where's something like visit in a morgue in Dead Space? It was gone.

And then huge disappointment - Dead Space 3.

When I first heard it is made for coop I already knew it will be bad. And of course. Now Isaac was capable of rolling on the ground like a boss with super heavy engineering suit. Scare-element was gone entirely. It's hard to be afraid when You're not alone. And even if You play alone the game just lacked atmosphere and was only endless bloodshed. I won't even start with how ridiculous last boss fight was. Just watch the thing on YouTube and tell me the logic behind it. There's not much more to say about it. It was simply bad in my opinion.

Well, I can also add 2nd Amnesia. Amnesia: The Dark Descent made my mind go insane when I played it at night. That game was merciless and brutal towards player giving no room to breathe between scary moments. I did not even manage to finish it, because I was too scared. Amnesia: Machine for pigs was not scary at all. Actually for me it was pretty silly with its attempts to be deep.

Vampire Rain: Altered Species is by far the worst horror game I have ever played, it wasn't even an actual horror game in terms of mechanics, it was a maze that disguised its dead ends with instantaneous deaths, and then like every Japanese game, puts you through a ten second reminder of how you suck, when really, it's just projection.

The worst horror game? Resident Evil 5. Played through the game on Veteran and Professional and the end of the final boss fight was stupid and took me out of the immersion. My favorite villain within Resident Evil was beaten by quick time events..... He deserved a better ending than that. It was an alright game if you can get past your stupid partner's AI. Talk about dumber than a sack of potatoes. The scares were dumbed down as well, compared to 4.
