Would Twilight have been able to speak with horses in the EG Universe?

We know horses existed in that universe through all the symbolism, we can assume they existed as animals. Twilight as a pony would be able to make all the sounds horses make as we've heard neighs and winnies during the course of the show, so would Twilight and Sunset be able to understand whatever horses are saying and would they be able to talk back to them?

I feel like she'd try to talk to them using the human language first, since multiple animals in equestria (Ponies, cows, donkeys, etc) also speak 'human' language, but if she figures out that they can only makes horse noises, then yeah, I think she could communicate with them, assuming when horses make those noises it's some kind of understandable communication and not just incomprehensible noises, even for other horses

Well horses are pretty smart, but I don't think they're smart enough to have an actual discussion with a sapient creature like the MLP ponies. Most horse communication isn't even vocal, it's all body language and actions.

The real question is what would happen to the horse if it goes through the portal to equestria? Would it change into a human with a horse brain? I'm not sure 

 

I would think meeting a horse that is just an animal would be a bit disconcerting for Twilight, or maybe she would take it in stride it's kind of up in the air until it happens in the show. This is difficult to speculate on

No, because they haven't used those noises to communicate. They're just noises they make out of reaction. It's like pointing out someone knows how to grunt and assuming that means they can talk to gorillas through that.

just because they're the same species doesn't mean horses are sapient enough to have a language and talk after all. heck, the horses of the human world would be like us meeting a giant gorilla ape, similar family but not the same species.

I don't think so. Horses and FIM Ponies are so different from each other that I don't think she'd be able to.   I never think of FIM ponies as horses.
