How were you introduced to the show?

Well, I was trying to type this a second ago, but I'm horrendous with laptops. So here's the short short version: What was a kid's show like > What is a brony > Why do I like this show >  Should I tell my friends > SCREW IT, I'M A BRONY!!! > how did other people become bronies?

 

That's basically how I became a brony. It was supposed to be well thought out, meaningful, and somewhat melodramatic, but I pressed the wrong key and had to do this again. But the question is: How were you introduced to My Little Pony (leading up to your life as a brony)?

I had never even heard of the current show when the "Flutterguy" clip showed up as a "Recommended" video on YouTube. I watched it, and became very curious about a show that could produce something I found so funny. I was almost convinced it was a fan dub, when I went and downloaded the entire season one.  I was hooked by the start of episode two.

Stupid math based joke aside I had been unknowingly exposed to fan created content such as the song Discord for quite a while via something that I don't think exists anymore that was called 'Flipnote Hatena' on the DSi. Then in the middle of January of this year after being basically banished by my friends for about two months after a big Skype war I was extremely bored and my curiosity got the better of my extreme hatred anger and bias.

I accidently found Equestria Girls 1 and 2, found out they are linked to MLP, and I got hooked. Done.

I simply searched for a Franchise that had many things to collect, like Movies, Tv Shows, Videogames.

 

I searched in Wikipedia and remembered : " Oh wait, hadnt Mlp a show, like years ago? Maybe there is more ? " 

 

Then i saw the countless Generations that Mlp had and i searched in the Internet for the first Short Movie : Fireflys Adventure, also known as Rescue at Midnight Castle or simply My Little Pony.

 

I saw that only one Vhs was available on the entire Internet ( and that was at a time, were the old Mlp series wasnt released completely on Dvd, unlike now. )

 

So my collector heart spoke to me : " BUY IT!!! JUST BUY IT!! DONT CARE IF ITS A KIDS SHOW, BUY IT! ITS YOUR LAST CHANCE! "

 

And then i bought it and started collecting. And at some point ended up in G4.

I had heard about the show and the brony phenomenon for months before actually sitting down to watch an episode, but I never bothered to do so because I thought it to be some stupid show aimed at little girls that would die off in another few months. But then I stumbled across a guy on YouTube who reviewed cartoons, one of them being MLP. I watched a few videos and eventually curiosity overtook me and I marathoned the entire first season in about one night. The next day, we went to Walmart and I picked out a mystery bag (which was to be Princess Cadance). My mom told me she already knew I would be obsessed with it. She was right.

Back in 2006, I was hooked on a YouTuber by the name of Masterlinkx. What made me enjoy him was his Super Smash Bros Melee videos. Flash forward to 2011, where I was on YouTube one day. I thought to check out the same guy's profile, as I hadn't done so for a few years. When I reached his channel, the first thing I noticed was that the featured video had My Little Pony in the title. I was initially thrown off by this, having hated MLP at the time (starting from when I was a young boy, no surprise there).

However, I later stumbled across clips of the show and actually enjoyed what I was seeing.

A combination of boredom and a college friend being into it led me to it.

I heard about it's popularity, so I watched the first episode. After being disappointed with it, I didn't really bother with watching the rest of the show for a while.

After a few months, I became envious of the camaraderie of the fanbase (back in 2011), and I felt like I was missing out. I then binge watched the show hoping it would get better, which it did... after an entire season in. I think I finally considered myself a fan after seeing A Canterlot Wedding.

 

Unfortunately, I find it hard to recommend the show to anyone because of it's mediocre first season. If it didn't have essential information, I would recommend skipping it.

Sadly that's not the case. I guess the best way to make Season 1 seem better to newcomers would be to show them G3 first.

I was in Mexico in June and I almost died of boredom!! So, I mostly spent my time in my cousin's bedroom because there was nothing to do! So he had an Apple TV which he never used so I decided to log into my Netflix . In the suggestions there it was, My Little Pony. So then I clicked on it because it caught my attention, and I watched 2 episodes then I got hooked ever since!! Then when I came back to the US I finished watching all of the seasons! MLP Is now one of the valuable things I got in my heart

I was introduced in a pretty standard way that I still am surprised that it happened at all. Basically, I starting see videos on Youtube pop up. That is how I was introduced for the first time, there was a specific video that I cannot remember the name of but I found it in 2011. Then I did not start watching the show until an entire year later, which is a shame, I wish I would have watched it sooner.
