gaming Your LEAST favorite aspects of your MOST favorite games?

We all have games that we love with all our hearts, but there's always little pet peeves about our favorites that we cannot deny.

Am I right?

I personally LOVE Skyrim.

So far I've poured over 1000 hours into the game.

And if it's one thing that bothers me the most it's the Theives Guild.

Well not the guild in general, but how the game introduces and handles it.

When you first enter Riften during the daytime, you are introduced to Bronjulf (probably butchered that name).

And for those of you who have played the game, you know the story.

He says he's apart of the Thieves Guild and wants to get you to join.

And here is the part that frustrates me.

If you say "hell no! i ain't doin' that shit!" nothing really changes.

You can't destroy the faction like you could with the Dark Brotherhood.

Why?!

It's like the game force the faction down your throat.

And the main problem with this faction are the "side jobs" you have to do.

They require stealth and thievery skills.

Hmm... let's think.

Is an Orc who specializes in heavy amour and two-handed weaponry REALLY cut out for a guild that is out of his class?

Didn't think so.

I'm going to use South Park: The Stick of Truth as my example not because it's my favorite game, but because I just recently finished it.

And trust me, that's a fault of it. I finished the main story line and most of the side quests I had (around 10) in less than 10 hours, which is really short for an RPG game. The plot was good, especially for something in the South Park universe, but the game was just too damn short. 10 hours might sound like a lot, but I played the entire thing in two sessions during the weekend.

The level cap is also really low. It's only 15 levels that are really easy to get. I had all the levels in about 8 hours, which was far before I had the main story completed. I didn't even grind for levels.

I have several favorites so I'm just going to pick Resident Evil 4.

The only part I don't like is Ashley and the whole escort mission thing, I can barely handle myself and now I have to take care of some annoying girl who yells "Leon" more than Ethan Mars yells "Shaun" in Heavy Rain.

Hmmm... This is gonna be difficult to explain.  Anywho, so, taking in mind the OP is asking about favorite game- yes, plural...

I'll just use the GTA series.

I started out playing Grand Theft Auto III when I was in like 2nd grade (lmao)!  It was simply amazing.  Then I went to Vice City; also simply amazing.  Then San Andreas came and blew my mind

Then the platform changed, and we got GTA IV and GTA V.  Don't get me wrong.  IV and V are ridiculously good... But my complaint is, well, hehe...  I think each game was ahead of its time.  I'd have like to have seen III, Vice City, and San Andreas with the better graphics, gameplay, and better handling that we saw with IV and V.  Don't get me wrong; I totally realize that IV and V were meant to be Liberty City (IV) and San Andreas (V)... but... it's just not the same, you know.  And no, this isn't the same thing as nostalgic love for the old games.  I seriously mean that III and Vice City were lacking something that they could have had if they'd been made years later.  San Andreas' graphics and handling were improved from the prior two, so I'm happy with how it was, and how GTA V re-did it.  But what I wish, is that we could have had a sort of... remake[?] I guess, of III and VC.  I don't know.  It's hard to explain.  I just really friggin loved GTA III and Vice City, and always thought that despite how awesome they were, they could have been better.

(Don't even get me started on Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories.  Just... *facepalm* no.  Just no.  Those were pathetic).

Nonetheless, I'll always be a loyal fan of Rockstar Games.

---

My other favorite games are the Tekken series and the Gran Turismo series.  And, oddly enough, I don't have any complaints about them.  I just love them as they are.

(Yes, I am a Tekken guy.  Sorry Mortal Kombat folks.  And don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing on you or MK; they are good games, but I always preferred Tekken).

I have few games.

Payday 2, it's my favorite game right now but I don't like new microtransaction thing and it will get pretty repetitive after sometime playing.

Borderlands 2. Same thing, it gets too repetitive after while.

Killzone 3. Stealth mission.

GTA V, I've got a few things I dislike about it:

1. Progression in online is waaay off. So I get the homing rocket launcher early on, but I need level 100 for the RPG which is basically the same thing except without homing capabilities? And what's with the absurd requirements for some of the colors?

2. I don't like playing in public games, so generally I do invite only games. The catch? In order for me to start up an invite only session, I have to go into story mode, wait for it to load, then go to the online tab, hit play online, and then select invite only game. I have to go into singleplayer to go into multiplayer. Yeah...

3. Even when hosting my own session, the game threatens to kick me for idling, so I've gotta sit here nudging it every few minutes which is a pain if I have to get up and do other things.

4. As a computer user, I like using the number keys to switch between weapons. It irks me when I hit a key to select a weapon, and instead of bringing me to the current weapon I already have in that slot, it pulls out the default weapon so that I have to rapidly bash the number key in order to get the one that I want. Because of this I essentially have to utilize the weapon wheel, which considering the fact I'm using a keyboard and not a game controller I shouldn't have to do.

5. The blind firing enemies, holy heck. This one drives me up a wall. Why can an enemy that's taking cover behind a wall or behind a box pop nothing but his hand out and manage to hit me with relative consistency? Do they have eyes on their hands? 99% of the difficulty from this game stems from enemies that you have no idea where they are because they're hidden somewhere, but they can still magically aim and hit you. Also, damage direction indicators are messed up. You can get hit from the front and it'll tell you it's coming from the left. Maybe it's indicating where the bullet hit you, but wouldn't it be more helpful if it told you where the enemy was instead? I often get killed by this when I turn around and try to shoot an enemy that's not there, which gives the actual enemies time to get shots in.

6. How are cops alerted to a crime in this game? I seriously can't tell. Sometimes you can be in the middle of nowhere, kill someone with no one watching, and you get away with it. Other times you can be in the same exact situation, and the second you kill them it's an automatic star and cops hone in on your position. It's completely inconsistent.

7. The game has the tendency of deciding what I want to do. As an example: I'm shooting at the police, and my friend is there shooting them with me. My friend runs up close to me, then suddenly the game decides HEY! someone's in your vicinity, let's make it so you stop shooting at the police and instead whack your friend in the back of the head. No game, I decide what I want to do, not you.

Animal Crossing New Leaf: I feel like it goes too far on the whole 'wait another day', and just waiting in general process. I understand that the series has always done stuff like that, but in New Leaf it is taken to a whole new level. The frustration was doubled when the game was delayed and delayed and delayed, and then I finally get it in my hands, and I hardly get to do anything at all before I'm told "wait until tomorrow".

It took like 20 - 30 days for me to even get to change my hairstyle in that game (I did not have Wi-Fi back then)... And thanks to the completely random - also waiting - process of getting town projects requested, I never even got to get a Police Station or much of anything.

Well, my main fav game is Tf2, of which I only have a few complaint: repetitiveness, and balancing. Both of the issues are constantly being reworked, with new weapons countering old ones and giving new styles of play, leading to a fresher play than the usual staleness. But after a while, it gets sort of boring playing against noobs on Upward, no matter the loadout. The good thing is that it's a multiplayer game, and other players can be a bit unpredictable.

The only other game series I'd consider my favorite is Kingdom Hearts, and I'd only complain about the intricate plot you have no chance of explaining to anybody without them just playing it for themselves.

Ooh, interesting question. I am one for noticing flaws in even my most favorite games, sometimes little things can irritate me to no end.

Roller-Coaster Tycoon: This applies for the first game mostly as it was improved in the 2nd game, but the Ride Intensity stat. That thing was b;eh. It only had a major effect on Roller-coasters but here is how it works: Basically ,a ride will have a certain intensity rating depending on what it does, it's speed, lateral G's, all sorts of stats. This game is detailed. This determines if some will ride it and others won't. The problem, was the Ultra-Extreme rating. THAT rating sucks. It basically negates 99% of visitors from riding the coaster and it was very finicky on if a ride was gonna hit this rating. Making really cool coasters was quite difficult if you still wanted people to ride them. It does make you think accordingly, which is fine, but the system in the first game was a bit too brutal.

Skyrim: Two things here: 1. The constantly repeating NPC dialogue. Now, I understand that they wanted to make the world feel more alive by making the NPC's say things, but for many of these characters, they would randomly repeat the same things over and over and over again anytime they see you, which was a little awkward after a while. 2. This is the bigger one of the two: The repeating VOICES. This one annoys me to no end. I know they had tons of characters to voice, so using the same voice actors is fine, but often, these actors did not even bother to change their voices up at all, not even a tiny bit. For example, there is a quest where you have to rescue a guy from the custody of this group. You go and talk to a guy that might be involved, you hear his rough sounding voice, then you go the brother of the guy that was taken away and his brother sounds EXACTLY like the guy who was involved in said taking of the guy. That just sounded...stupid. Plus that particular voice was kinda bad and that fact that he did not even try to make it sound at least slightly different is baffling.

Those are a couple of examples. I will think of more over time.

The daily and weekly refresh timer of Destiny. With the new expatiation (The Taken King) I don't have the time do everything. The Bounty, the weekly heroic, the daily heroic, the weekly Nightfall, The Raid, and limited time quest line. IT'S ALL TO MUCH AND I LOVE IT. (And there the story but... muh.)

Hmm...I think I got one. I love Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, but I'll admit that your starting inventory space is very limited, even by RPG standards. The game frequently gives you boatloads of items, but you can only hold 8 items total to start. The only way to increase this is to brave through the Pit of 100 Trials to floor 50 in one go, which rewards you with the Strange Sack that increases your inventory to 20. Had the starting amount been 10-12 and the upgrade 20-25, then I wouldn't have minded.

Speaking of items, the item crafting system in that game is also annoying, basically boiling down to brute force repetition and trying every single two item combination possible, many of which don't make a lick of sense and a few of which require ingredients that are nearly impossible to get like Inky Sauce. Outside of making Honey-Shrooms and Sweets, you'll almost never use it. It's so bad that I still consider having 100% completed the game after doing everything except for collecting the dozens of star shards you don't need to get every badge and filling up the recipe list.
