Does this have to do with that episode involving chickens and the CMC or the fact that Pinkie Pie dresses like a chicken and ran around with the CMC? I don't get that Scootaloo thing, either. I think it came from that one CMC episode where Applebloom basically called Scootaloo a chicken: and then someone asked the voice actor to say it during a panel i guess https://youtu.be/a8G701_ahH8?t=9s but yeah, I dont get the whole pony in socks thing. Someone made a thread about it, but I still dont get it Edited November 7, 2015 by Melon Blitz 3 http://nogonip.tumblr.com

Detritus 258 November 7, 2015 Share November 7, 2015 One thing that confuses me is the common depiction of Luna as a gamer... I have no idea where that one came from. Where did the term "Sunbutt" come from? I assumed it was because Celestia literally has a picture of the sun emblazoned upon her ass. These "memes" are just small jokes and references from the show (and fanmades) that...well, became insanely popular and quickly became widespread, repeatedly used memes across the Internet. *Scootaloo is a chicken: I think it was from the episode "Stare Master" where Applebloom called her a chicken, most of the fandom then overthought it, and it soon became a cruel reference on how she had small wings and couldn't fly..Kinda mean don't you think? *Sunbutt: Obviously is from the fact Celestia had a Sun Cutie mark on her flank. *Gamer Luna: Not sure on this, but probably based a theory where Luna found out about the existence of gaming after her banishment, which, led to her almost immediately getting addicted. Hazy Skies 1,010 November 7, 2015 Share November 7, 2015 (edited) One thing that confuses me is the common depiction of Luna as a gamer... I have no idea where that one came from. This is likely because Luna (As the guardian of the moon) is assumed to be up all night.. And one of the first things that comes to mind when you think of someone who stays up late all night is a gamer Also from the "Luna eclipsed" episode, she appears to be fairly competitive when it comes to points.. "HOW MANY POINTS DO I RECIEVE?!!" Which further makes it more fitting to depict Luna as a gamer.. and videogames are clearly an actual thing in Equestria.. As shown in the "Slice of life" episode we see arcade games about 15 minutes in.. Edited November 7, 2015 by AURAequine
Ianpiersonjdavis 513 November 7, 2015 Share November 7, 2015 (edited) Still not sure about "Tyrant Celestia" thing or the "New Luna Republic" The Tyrant Celestia meme originated from a fan theory which may or may not have been sarcastic in pointing out Celestia banished her younger sister and co-ruler to the moon-obviously, she didn't have a real choice in the matter (since this came about long before the actual origins of Nightmare Moon were shown in the Season 4 premiere). The follow-up to that is the scene from "A Bird in the Hoof" near the beginning of the episode at Sugarcube Corner with Mr. and Mrs. Cake seemingly terrified of her while she pulled a small prank to try and get them to relax around her-this helped birth the "Trollestia" meme. 'The New Lunar Republic" was a (possibly tongue-in-cheek) sort of response to that theory as Luna returning to free Equestria from her sisters tyranny and reclaim her throne. Hazy Skies 1,010 November 7, 2015 Share November 7, 2015 (edited) Still not sure about "Tyrant Celestia" thing or the "New Luna Republic" or "Princess Molestia" Because characters that are depicted as "good" can be fun to depict as an opposite of who they actually are.. It's sorta funny to image Princess Celestia.. the ruler of Equestria who is dedicated to peace and prosperity.. as a bad mare who rules over Equestria and forces ponies to do her evil bidding Muhahaha! Also Rule 43 of the internet: "43. The more beautiful and pure a thing is, the more satisfying it is to corrupt it." The whole "Molestia" thing was also a purposeful corruption to make her seem like some sort of evil pony molester with her eyes on Twilight.. and the fact that the name sound so close to both "Celestia" and "Molester" makes it just that much more funny xD Not sure about the "New Luna republic" ... The only time I heard of that is in a mod I installed for Civilization: Beyond Earth, which added a Luna-based faction named "New Lunar Republic" which i didn't think anything of it at the time.. but perhaps it's a reference to this "New Luna republic" you speak of.. Hmmm.. Edited November 7, 2015 by AURAequine

RyaN_ 292 November 7, 2015 Share November 7, 2015 The Tyrant Celestia meme originated from a fan theory which may or may not have been sarcastic in pointing out Celestia banished her younger sister and co-ruler to the moon-obviously, she didn't have a real choice in the matter (since this came about long before the actual origins of Nightmare Moon were shown in the Season 4 premiere). 'The New Lunar Republic" was a (possibly tongue-in-cheek) sort of response to that theory as Luna returning to free Equestria from her sisters tyranny and reclaim her throne. The infamous "Trollestia" meme was born from a widespread of memes regarding the less "questionable" things that Hasbro probably didn't think through 1. Having the royal pegasi guards pull her carriage when she herself had to ability to fly 2. The previously mentioned prank in Sugarcube Corner 3. Presenting Twilight with two gala tickets when she obviously knows Twilight had 6 friends 4. Not mentioning to discontinued use of "The Canterlot Royal Voice" before Luna's visit to Ponyville 5. etc. My theory is that the "Tyranny of Celestia" originated from "A Bird in the Hoof", where Twilight fears about Celestia's punishment for stealing her phoenix. The fact that she could imagine such enforcements might have suggested some dark sides of Celestia Seriously, if she banished her own sister, I doubt she would'nt hesitate to banish anypony else.. Also Rule 43 of the internet: "43. The more beautiful and pure a thing is, the more satisfying it is to corrupt it." The whole "Molestia" thing was also a purposeful corruption to make her seem like some sort of evil pony molester with her eyes on Twilight.. and the fact that the name sound so close to both "Celestia" and "Molester" makes it just that much more funny xD A molester targeted at Twilight...now that's seriously creepy... And the Rule 43 thing... that's just wrong :okiedokielokie: *I am the master of my fate* Huge thanks for Kyoshi for this wicked awesome signature! You rock, brother. Ianpiersonjdavis 513 November 7, 2015 Share November 7, 2015 (edited) My theory is that the "Tyranny of Celestia" originated from "A Bird in the Hoof", where Twilight fears about Celestia's punishment for stealing her phoenix. I can't believe I forgot the main driving point of the episode. And I think Twilight's crippling fear failing of her in any way didn't really help dispel those beliefs. galaxysquid 2,122 November 7, 2015 Share November 7, 2015 Why people find it interesting to ship the gender-bent version of a character with that same character. I find it strange and disturbing. Hm! Well, people have their different opinions on it. I find it rather cute, myself. Mostly just because some of the fanart is absolutely adorable!! My avatar has gender bent Rainbow Dash (Rainbow Blitz) with regular old Applejack, which is my favourite ship. Anyways, I don't know anything much about what things in the fandom make no sense to me. I kinda understand most of it. Here is a pretty broad thing that I don't understand. Why did we even watch MLP to see that it is good? Lauren Faust, maybe. She worked on Fosters Home for Imaginary friends and Power Puff Girls, which many people from this fandom previously watched. They were just interested in her work and wanted to see what her take on MLP was all about! Others, maybe because you watched MLP as a child and wanted to check out the newer generation. And then with people who neither of those apply to, well it beats me. Gonna have to ask them personally. xD I was a mixture of both reasons up above. 1 My OC, Starlight. J. Brony 313 November 7, 2015 Share November 7, 2015 (edited) I don't get how Button Mash became such a popular character. Kid had like 2 seconds of screen time. It's due to Button Mash Adventures by Jan Animations. They'd planned to do a whole spinoff series based on Button Mash but it got C&D'd by Hasbro after only one episode. They also did a parody song called Don't Mine At Night. Another thing I don't understand is the "Big Mac Alicorn Princess". It's really beggining to annoy me, and it made me dislike Big Mac also. From what I understand, Peter New (Big Mac's VA) had requested a piece of artwork that he could make copies of and sign for fans at a convention. It featured Big Mac as an alicorn. Then, in a Twitter post, Larson made a bad joke, Peter responded sarcastically and Larson said something to the effect of "Welcome to Alicorn City" as if he were threatening to make it a reality. It seemed impossible but then it actually happened in the show. People were like "OMG THE PROPHECY HAS COME TRUE LOLOLOLOL THANKS M.A. LARSON!" and the rest is history. Edited November 7, 2015 by J. I used to be a stranger 7,994 November 7, 2015 Share November 7, 2015 (edited) Why do we call Flash Sentry "Brad"? Why did people ponify the sirens when they are actually sirens? Why is Big Mac shipped with literally every pony? Brad was the nickname given to Flash Sentry in live stream chats of the premiere of the first Equestria Girls movie, when he made his first appearance ever as a human. To some, the connection was not immediately apparent, since Flash Sentry was already named as a pony earlier in the movie. The name has stuck in the weird way memes do. The internet is a strange place. Big Macintosh is the most frequently seen male pony character. Inferences (usually lewd in nature) are drawn from his name and physical stature coupled with sexual fantasies, the predominance of female characters in the show's environs, or both. He was also the only recurring male pony character in Season 1 with a speaking role. Braeburn was a one-off but his appearance was memorable, so bronies with a jones for homosexual fantasies are what made Big Mac-Braeburn take off. The inertial of popularity of these things are what's carried the image ever since. FlutterMac exists because through Season 1 and 2, people assumed Big Macintosh was quiet because he was shy, not unlike Fluttershy. Thus "Similar personalities" was the alleged case of many fan fictions therebetween. RainbowMac, TwiMac, and PinkieMac all exist for very vague reasons as well.(Read: those specific instances pictured, where they don't even talk to one another really.)
