What appeal does equestria girls have?

How do you find the EG movies?

I like them, I always consider MLP as something made for primarily for kids but with some care and attention taken to make it more accessible to older fans, or something that parents can actually enjoy watching with their children. I prefer the show to the movies, but would never have watched either if not for living with a 5 year old and 7 year old who're both fans. I am glad that I did give it a chance though, and grateful that the show exists so there actually is something I can enjoy with them and appreciate, rather than just watching something for their sake that's bareable but not enjoyable

The same applies to the movies, there is a noticeable difference when compared to something like Pixar or Dreamworks movies (which I can also enjoy watching with them) but the animation is still good quality and the stories and characters are entertaining and engaging, and that's all that's required. So I don't begrudge buying the odd bit of merch if they really want it

I think it all has to do with the ponies. They're the same characters we know and love, just in a different form. That's probably why it stands out from the other lines of dolls you see in the pink isles. They technically aren't a toy line on their own, but more of a spin-off line of the same characters. Meanwhile, Barbie, Monster High, and Bratz are on their own and don't have a similar franchise they're based off of. At least, not that I know of.

But I could be wrong. I know little to nothing about Barbies and such. I never had an interest in dolls to begin with, not even Equestria Girls.

The characters are already established, so the relate-ability is already there that other series like Monster and Ever After High don't have. While those series may have more elaborate and interesting character designs, seeing the MLP characters I love in human form was something I loved from the first announcement, primarily as it added some customisation of the characters style that I rarely saw in the series.

In regards to the EQ films, the humour and voice acting is on the same par as the main series, but the music and narratives are hit or miss, which drags the films overall quality down. The merchandise is awful, like pretty much all MLP merch (minus the POP Vinyl figures). However the recently announced EQ Minis are much more up my street, so damn adorable... must buy them... when I can.

Overall, EQ has familiarity and quality design on its side to appeal to me. If only the films had more body to them in terms of narrative and music, I'd be more than happy to get behind them... they are steadily improving, but need to really hit the ground running for the fourth one in order to keep my critical interest in it from waning.

That things like monster high and barbie lack?

To be honest, the main reason EG appealed to me at first it was because they're poneh as humans. In time however, they still have the same charm as ponies, and the introduction of a couple of great characters within the lore, like Sunny  :rarity:

The first one I watched out of curiosity, but I found it to be okay at best. I didn't even learn about the existence of Rainbow Rocks until well after it had come out, but when I found out it was a battle of the bands type movie I wanted to see it because I liked the songs from the first one.

However more than the music, Sunset Shimmer stood out for me in RR. She got so much development that she became one of my favorite characters, and now I'll keep coming back to EQG just to follow her adventures because she's that awesome.

So, TL;DR: Music and Sunset Shimmer.

To me it is definitely Sunset Shimmer and how they developed her character and her relationship with Twilight and the other characters (but mainly Twilight) over the movies. mlp-sunhug.png

I like Equestria Girls because it has a decent animation. And, unlike what Barbie and Bratz?(Monster High are too childish) These cartoons (I can't even call them cartoons) are for girls only. Also, even if it wouldn't be connected to FiM, I think it would still be a good show. Personally, I like the cartoonish behavior of Pinkie Pie (like breaking the fourth wall, when she picked up a balloon out of her 'cutie mark' on skirt, and when she opened a bottle cap with her hair - that was hilarious). But, EG have flaws nonetheless, the design of older characters are a bit off - they just look weird.

Actually I've heard Monster High is actually quite good, or at least watchable. Bratz and Barbie are average girly tween cartoons.

And EQG being tied with FiM almost certainly gives it a huge boost. I would never have given EQG a chance if I never watched ponies.

Its the same for Monster High, they simply didn't start with a foothold.

And of course characters, animation, etc. etc. all the mindless drone answers and stuff.

Well I think for me what separates it from monster high is like as many people said, it still feels like the show and the tone of the show is what made FIM so unique in the first place. Also too me personally I think they dropped a lot of highschool cliches starting with Rainbow Rocks.

Also the character designs to me look much more natural looking. I think in Monster High they look too over-sexualized with the amount of makeup they wear like eyeliner and lipstick
