I... To be honest, that was kinda lame. I feel like I wish things had been more epic.

Before GF goes, one more awkward sibling hug for good measure. :P

Why did you have to set off my feels ;-;

With this episode Gravity Falls has done what I previously thought was impossible, displaced MLP as my favourite show currently.

I second this. After teh finale, I have to put them next to each othereach other.

There have only been 2 series finales to TV shows that I would consider to be proper and satisfying conclusions to their shows (Breaking Bad and Avatar: The Last Airbender). Well, after last night, now it's 3: Gravity Falls.

It was immensely satisfying and incredibly heartfelt. Best possible way to end the series.

It was very heartfelt. I just hope Hirsch makes another show just as good!

One more thing about Hirsch.

With this series, he set himself the bar high very early in his animation career and Gravity Falls will be remembered as a modern classic, besides cartoons as MLP: FIM.

As i see here, many expect that his new show will be equally as good. I don't deny his talent, because he has alot of it. But we should wait and see. In the end, maybe it won't be as good as GF.

Again, not going to stomp on Alex, just trying to stay realistic. :)

Wow, the ending was amazing... :D

I'm pretty sad that it's ending, but at least it's not a show that goes on forever and "outstays" it's welcome, and then gets milked and cash cowed to death like Spongebob, for example.

Just finished it: oh man my emotions. Stuff like this makes me consider TV writing, especially in this awesome modern-day kids genre. All the wallpapers I can find won't fill this new void. My trifecta is now currently MLP - SU - Gravity Falls.

Any more recommendations for top-tier cartoons? Hearing lots of The Last Airbender.

Sadly I don't watch all that many cartoons, so I don't have any "top tier" recommendations, but Star vs. The Forces of Evil is pretty decent. It's no Gravity Falls, though - Not by a long shot.

I just started watching Gravity Falls like 2 weeks ago at most, and in that time I've seen the whole series now that Wierdmageddon part 3 came out... It seems more like a movie than a show to me as a result with me not having too terribly long to enjoy it before it was gone. But hey, that's a testament to how good I found the show to be, because to this day there have only been 3 TV shows I've ever been able to binge-watch from start to finish (Code Lyoko, FLCL, and now Gravity Falls)

Even if Gravity Falls has ended, this scene will always be one of my favorite moments.

I love how they were parodying "Dancing Queen" by ABBA. In my opinion, this is even better than the real song, lol. :dash:

Edit: Another one of my all time favorite moments of the show has to be this, it's hilarious! When I first watched it, I literally couldn't stop laughing. :D

It was a really unique show, one of the bestest to deal with paranormal phenomena. You see, not many cartoon shows often talk about this topic, and i guess this is one of the things that made it stand out, along with a healthy dose of emotional and scary moments. You see, there was also this cartoon that dealt with the paranormal named "Moville Mysteries" from the 2000's i think. It was interesting but sadly did not have the same success as GF. Ah well, back on topic, the finale was truly mindblowing! And enigmatic too. Who knows, perhaps we haven't seen the last of the Pines family...

Hmm. In all seriousness...

*spoilered for those who might not have seen it yet*

I think they kind of undid some of the awesomeness of the finale by returning Gruncle Stan's memory (which should really have brought Bill back too, if you think about it). I guess Disney needed a happy ending, but I think bittersweet (a Gruncle Stan who saved the world, but had to give up his memories of the summer to do so) would have been a bitter better way to finish it.

I agree, but there's at least one possible explanation

Just before Bill dies, he says something backwards. In this video, we can see

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjXIWQ9sHLo

that he cuts some kind of deal with an Aztec god (who also happens to be the god of twins, monsters and deformities :derp: ). If this deal was successful, it's possible that Stanley might have also been protected since his and Bill's fates were linked at the time. Perhaps this Xolotl thing vetoed the erasure thing as a whole, and this was the cause for it not being permanent on Stanley's end.

Of course, this would imply that Bill is still running around somewhere out there in the mindscape. But doesn't that possibility make things so much more fun ;) ?

With that said,

I also agree that whether or not there's an explanation, Stanley getting his memories back cheapened an amazing scene. I'd have liked a series of scenes involving Ford trying to jog Stanley's memories by exploring the shack and learning more about what his brother had been up to for all those thirty years. In the process, maybe Ford himself would come to appreciate all that Stanley did for him. Either way, I like the idea of a Stanley who still doesn't remember his brother or the twins, but who ends up reciprocating the love that they obviously have for him.

That... actually makes a lot of sense. :)

Here's what Bill Cipher said backwards, decoded:

(Note: By the way, the gibberish part is actually the "I invoke part", but

whoever who made the video thought it was gibberish.)

Bill Cipher:

AAAGH!!!

XOLOTL

MY TIME HAS COME TO BURN,

I INVOKE THE ANCIENT POWER THAT I MAY RETURN!

Wierd... maybe he made a deal with the Aztec god to get his powers or something?

I'm trying to avoid spoilers here as I haven't fully caught up on this series, but are the three "Weirdmageddon" episodes tied together in an arc or are they just separate episodes that just share a title?

It's an entire story arc. You'll be missing a lot if you watch them out of order.

I had watched only bits and pieces of the series because of my limited cable access and the fact that I couldn't find a good way to stream it until now. I couldn't bear the suspense of watching all of the episodes so I watched a few really good ones before I knocked off all three parts of "Weirdmageddon" last night. And I have to say I'm amazed at how emotionally charged and thematically profound the story was while managing to work in a whole lot of continuity, many of the series' defining and iconic characters, and that trademark weirdness and offbeat sense of humor that made Gravity Falls unique.

I have to wonder just how much the writers thought about themes when they were writing this because of how amazingly dense this episode was with themes of sibling love, coming-of-age, and fighting the temptations to grow up too fast or to not want to grow up at all, as well as the many intersecting character arcs. I only wonder if all of it was effort or if it all just happened to fall into place.

The ending almost gave me Toy Story 3 vibes. The subtle shots looking over the empty room and the scrapbook photos at the end really drove home the finality of the moment, as well as the translations of the ciphers at the end. Dipper and Mabel being asleep on the bus when they finally arrived back in Piedmont was a really nice touch, and I just can't get enough of Dipper and Wendy's hat swap at the end.

178011.jpg?1456276036

I definitely give kudos to the second episode for really showing how Dipper and Wendy work off of each other. I also can't get enough of this:

s02e18-is-just-the-beginning-alex-hirsch

I really liked some of Bill Cipher's tactics. He may have a lot of similarities to Discord, but is much more outright diabolical and does turn people into stone. The way he worked on Mabel was fantastic; instead of imprisoning her in hell, he imprisons her in paradise, tempting her to abandon the mission on her own choice by fittingly getting inside of her head, fresh off of her coming-of-age crisis of not wanting to grow up. On the other half of the same circle, Dipper fights off the temptation of wanting to grow up too fast, coming to the realization that the life he always dreamed of was more than he bargained for, and the way these character arcs and this plot device all come together is ingenious. Their need to grow together and strong sibling bond are fittingly what helps to repair Stan and Ford's sibling bond and end "Weirdmageddon". I don't know what kind of magic bullet it takes to write something where everything just comes together like this, but I'd really love to know about it.

I'll admit to expecting something different and being somewhat disappointed that they invoked the Disney Death trope in this case. I thought Grunkle Stan was either going to die or have his mind seriously altered beyond repair, possibly into a McGucket-like state of insanity. I would think, considering all that Gravity Falls gets away with and the thousands of times they mention the threat of death or similar existential crises, they would've actually had the balls to do something like that. But I can imagine that the episode was sad enough already in its ending that it all but required Stan to turn out okay. It's enough that the show is ending and Dipper and Mabel are leaving the Falls. I have a feeling that doing that to another main character would have piled on a little too hard.

If something bad really did happen to Stan, imagine the emotional baggage with which Dipper and Mabel would have had to return to Piedmont.

I think I might have to watch it again after looking at this thread. Loved the ending scenes. Ohhhh shit of course there is a lot of untied knots which is disappointing but I suppose the show should end on a high note instead of carrying on.

My favorite part was when Bill Cipher stepped down to fight. But I did expect Stanford and Stanley to switch places to you know.... so eh
