ManaMinori 4,149 February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 While I HATE Twilight resorting to magic as a quick fix solution, and causing more chaos to the situations she sought to fix with magic, I liked her snarkiness in the early years of FiM. It was funny and refreshing, since it's not something seen often in a good, supposed positive role model of a character. (Let alone a princess) should DHX have kept the snark in Spark? IF (hypothetical) DHX replaced one of the mane 6, to keep things fresh for the franchise (again, hypothetical), should the new character be one who gives us Twilight Snarkle's lost snark? 4 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
Subscriber Denim&Venöm 20,498 February 19, 2016 Subscriber Share February 19, 2016 Not really. We might miss it, but mature grown ups are rarely snarky. If Twilight was to have been seen as a maturing character, then that's something that needed to be lost.

Dark Qiviut 22,606 February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 Nope. Her snark was one of her most unlikable parts of her personality, and Twilight has grown up so much since then. For her to retain her snark after her ascension implicates no maturity from her, so I'm glad they got rid of it. 3 "Talent is a pursued interest." — Bob Ross Pro-Brony articles: 1/2/3/

Megas 28,146 February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 I like snark. I like snarky Sparkle I like mature Sparkle I can go both ways I don't think being snarky would make her immature, even some of the most mature people can have a side to them that can make them a bit of a dick. I gave an example to counter such a riduculous claim. Neither of us brought the morality into the matter. But since you seem keen on doing that, let's talk what's "right", and "mature" as far as Twilight is concerned. Bribing others to be friends, as she did with Moondancer? (Haycarte's method bribing) Leaving her friends out of important decisions of friendship? (Never asking for Fluttershy's help or advice in Hoofeilds and McColts) Using her deus ex machina spells rather than common sense to rectify a bad situation? (Too many times to recount) Yes, Twilight is indeed a mature mare now, and all of those decisions must be right, right? Don't even get me started on the other 5, if you want to play "what's right" 1 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub

YES YES YES OH GOD YES. twilight in season 1 was great. Funny due to her snark, imperfect due to her occasional bitchiness, and overall a great and fallible character, with lots of upsides and downsides. We already have 2 alicorn princesses who are supposed model citizens (Cadance, ironically more than Sunbutt), and Twilight's getting closer to being one, though she's not there yet. Writers should've let Twi and Luna be the loopy, questionable ones. A little snark in the Spark added to her spice. 1 Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
Wind Chaser 4,768 February 19, 2016 Share February 19, 2016 (edited) It was a good trait to have when she was still young and growing. However, as a leader in a position of high responsibility, being overly sarcastic is a huge sign of impatience and would definitely be called out if she still did it. Sure many adults do it, and it's good for comedy, but it's mostly a very teenage and unprofessional thing to do (look at Daria for example), especially for someone in such a high position of power. Except if they're a Republican presidential candidate. Edited February 19, 2016 by Wind Chaser

Marimo 555 February 22, 2016 Share February 22, 2016 (edited) I think whether she should be snarky depends on what the situation is to actually warrant the snark given Twilight's development, and whether or not its even deserving in the situation. Like what are moments where she was snarky in the beginning? I think mainly of two types of scenarios: First, when she was dealing with something she didn't believe in (supernatural stuff in Bridle Gossip, Pinkie sense), and the main lessons she had to learn from them was not to be so condescending towards them and try and look beyond what things are called. While that still allows for skepticism, she can still have something of an open mind and she's experienced a lot more events where things she didn't believe could happen or know could happen did, so that doesn't make as much sense for her to outright be snarky with someone who has an idea that she doesn't think is possible. And then there's just dealing with ponies she finds annoying, like when she was first meeting everyone. She doesn't do it to her friends anymore seemingly because she's more closer to them now so not only would that seem more rude, but she's gotten used to their oddities and quirks. And aside from Pinkie, I don't think they're written to be as odd or annoying to her as they were trying to make them when the show was starting. So that leaves other characters for her to bounce snark off of. And she's normally polite towards strangers and new characters assuming they're not trying to tick her off, and in the case of them being part of some function or princess duty like trying to befriend the yaks, her fear of failing is going to drive her more than her other feelings. The only character who she has enough friction with to warrant snark that I can think of currently is Discord, but because of his personality and his power, she's more just wary around him when he's being civil and when he's provoked her she's normally too angry to keep a cool enough head to be snarky. So mind naming any other instances where she was being snarky and what caused her to be snarky in those situations? And what moments in the show recently would warrant her being snarky to someone that doesn't come off as unnecessarily mean or out of character given her past character development? Goat-kun 2,531 February 23, 2016 Share February 23, 2016 It is interesting that people often trumpet the idea that a family friendly show made for entertainment and toy sales has limited connection to real life logic, then start preaching about real life childhood traumas and character development like they’re watching The Walking Dead. There is no sensible objection one could throw this way when it comes to Twilight’s snarky attitude that can’t be countered by entertainment value. Instead of being scraped in favor of a bland royal attitude, Snarkle should have been refined in style and strategic placement. Lots of powerful and beloved imaginary personalities have such attitude towards life, including some very popular royal figures from a certain very popular TV show that is targeted at very adult audience. People forget that youth alone doesn’t make you snarky. Intelligence, witnessed buffoonery, and hard life do. Older people can be snarkier than teens. P.S: If they’re gluing this to Glimmer I’m gonna (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
TailsIsNotAlone 3,696 February 23, 2016 Share February 23, 2016 I kind of DID like that about Twilight, in retrospect. It made her easier to relate to, at least for me, and it was also a reminder that she wasn't perfect. Without that sprinkling of attitude, Spark...well, lost a bit of her spark. She's just too nice (and adjusted to the Princess thing WAY too easily, considering what we knew about her beforehand) to really hold my attention like she once did. She's still awesome and I don't think she's a Mary Sue. But I understand where some people are coming from when they make that argument. "Human beings fascinate me Being just the way they are..." KatonRyu 1,036 February 23, 2016 Share February 23, 2016 I wish they'd kept it, yes. Twilight's snarky moments made me like the show in the first place so I'd really like it if it were to make a return somehow. Who cares that she's in a position of power now? Celestia likes to troll ponies too and she's pretty much the supreme ruler of Equestria, so what's wrong with Twilight having some snide remarks from time to time? Marimo 555 February 23, 2016 Share February 23, 2016 People like pointing to season 3 and/or her being a princess when talking about her losing her snark, but mind giving me some examples of her being snarky during season 2? The only moment that comes to my mind right now is her reaction to finding out Shining was getting married only one or two days before the actual wedding, and through an informal letter too.
