Spike's birthday is actually an epic day!

Well, I must be slow or something. It only took an uncounted number of rewatches of "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" and "Secret of my Excess" for me to connect the dots and realize that when the girls are celebrating Spike's birthday in "SomE" they should also be celebrating the day they all got their cutie marks!

 

Unless the ponies celebrate his birthday on the day his egg was birthed, but I seriously doubt any of them actually know what day that is, and that includes Celestia.

 

So my point is Pinkie Pie should have thrown an even more epic party than she did in "Secret of my Excess", because they're not only celebrating the day Spike hatched, but also when they all found out their destinies. Plus Rainbow Dash did the first Sonic Rainboom ever.

You're right. Spike was hatched because RD's rainboom making Twi's magig go bonkers, and all 6 of them did get their cm's. Hatched on the day the first rainboom happenned, and 6 ponies got their flank stamps? Yeah, talk about epic!

OMG, you're right! You know what? I think the story should have ended on a funny moment with Spike explaining to Twilight that they now all owe him a dozen birthday presents or so because he's visited his birthday several times by the end of the season finale! 

 

At the very least the first time they went through the portal Twilight should have wished him happy birthday after they realized they were at the day they all got their marks.

This is one thing that really upset me about the finale and how it didn't really focus on how the mane six's lives were changed by the event not happening but took a broad strokes approach.

Couldn't agree more!   As for them not celebrating his B-day in the "Chonicles," the Mane 6 were relating the stories on a day that wasn't his birthday, so there wasn't anything to celebrate. It might have been nice though if Spike had been around Twilight while she was relating her story. But if asked if he remembered anything he probably would have responded with "Do I remember anything about that day? Yeah, I got nothing."

If Twilight and Spike had remembered the day the map took them back to was Spike's birthday, it would have made for a cute scene if he had requested to see his own birth. And he would have been envious of his magic-induced large form, I imagine!

Well the reason for that is that they needed Starlight Glimmer to do the whole time travel plot AND reform her so they had to not mention Spike's birth otherwise she went back in time and deliberately was going to kill (Well unbirth him technically) and so reforming her would have looked even worse than what we actually got, especially if it played out the same way. 

That being said, my headcanon is that she knew she would erase Spike from existence and just didn't care, only wanting her revenge, since nothing contradicts it really.

Thank you for pointing that out! I totally forgot she didn't get her mark until after her family opened up on the notion of fun!

 

Although one would think one of the Mane 6 would feel disappointed by having their mark day separate from her friends, in the case of Pinkie, she's probably pleased as punch to have an excuse to extend the party for an extra day!

Even though Spike's birthday is also Rainboom-Cutie Mark Day, I'm not sure they would need to keep celebrating the confluence of their destinies along with Spike's birthday. The realization and concluding group hug from "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" was enough to drive home the point that the Mane Six are important, but they aren't such an egotistic hive-mind that they should need, or even want, a day that re-emphasizes what they already know. You get your cutie mark, you get your Cuteceñera, you move on with your destiny, (then you die!).

 

Spike's birthday also happens to be the day that other important shit happened, but the other important shit that happened does not make Spike or his birthday more important. It does, however, mean that his destiny is tied in with the destinies of the Mane Six, though his role in the mythology of the series is not nearly of such importance that would elevate the significance of his birth to the significance of the Rainboom and its effects.

 

Lastly, I'm just going to pretend Starlight Glimmer didn't actually do any of that impetuous time travel crap. None of that fucking around with the past was of any consequence anyway.
