I've lived in Chicago my whole life, and it makes me kinda mad that barely any movies, tv shows, video games, etc, are set in Chicago. Usually it's cities like New York or LA that get all the love, but what about Chicago?

I don't really know why not a whole lot of media takes place in Chicago. It's usually either New York, LA, or some fictional city made up by the author. Maybe because New York and LA are bigger than Chicago, giving them more room to work with. Maybe because a lot of the studios that make these stuff take place in both those cities, making them easier to write for the author.

 

I'm currently writing a story that takes place in Chicago. There might be bias in there seeing as I've grown up and live in Chicago.

I think it's a popularity thing. I've not seen quite as much set in Detroit or Dallas either, which are the two cities I've lived closest to in my life. As for the places I've actually lived? No hope at all, they don't really have that powerful of a name or reputation.

Meanwhile, New York especially is huge in terms of recognizability. 

But yeah: LA and NYC are probably the most famous cities you could pick out of the US. Makes sense for most media to be based there on average.

From what I've seen, Chicago will occasionally get a cop drama.

 

Apparently according to the media only police live in Chicago.

I would just like to say that Watch Dogs is infuriating because they changed landmarks like the bean and the fountain faces in millennium park. They also called the Sears Tower the Willis Tower, but that might be due to some legal stuff.
