general media Punk settings that aren't steampunk or cyberpunk

So I'm assuming this goes in the media discussion section, it seems the most fitting. And I couldn't find any threads relevant to this topic, soooo!!

I'm sure most us are aware of what steampunk and cyberpunk are, right?

In short, steampunk being 1800s-early 1900s fashion and cultural attitudes mixed with supertech and high adventure and cyberpunk being mostly dark and gritty 80s/90s cybertechnology taken to extreme levels and mixed in with enormous megacorporations. Somebody else could do a better job at explaining than me and those descriptions leave out a lot of the underlying tones and messages of steampunk and cyberpunk stories, but I think they'll do.

What a LOT ( not everyone, but a lot) of folks aren't aware of is that there are -punk genres beyond those two! And that's what this thread is for. Discussion and commentary on punk settings outside of the two big ones!!

There's a TVTropes page with overviews, for the curious!

Personally, my favorites at the moment are dieselpunk and stonepunk. There's something compelling about the idea of stonepunk in particular, taking Flintstones-type technology and using it for adventure and action rather than domestic comedy. Giant stone and rope mecha, powered by fire that does all the incredible things steam can do in steampunk.... yeah.

What does everyone else think? Any of the other -punk genres in that link stand out to you? Do you think any of them will ever get as much recognition as the big two? This is just a general thread for these things.

I like goth punk. It was a big influence on shows like Burton's Batman, The Crow, Blade & Spawn. Also a big aspect for White wolf games World of Darkness Series of Tabletop Storytelling RPGs, like Vampire the Masquerade & Werewolf The Apacylypse.

Oh goodness me, tabletop RPGs. I LOVE tabletop RPGs, despite never playing any.

I think they're kind of a haven for alternate -punk settings, too! the Ice Age book for GURPS is certainly a good starting point for stonepunk adventures, even if the book only deals with realistic ice age humanity.

And there's also Weird War 2 for dieselpunk! It's D20, and it has all the delicious magic and scattered bits of supertech anyone could ever want.

And there's also that one Pathfinder adventure featuring Rasputin, with 'brain in a jar' stuff controlling first world war tanks...

Yeah, I gotta love tabletop RPGs.

Dieselpunk/Petrolpunk are probably my faves, next to Cyber and Steampunk.

I love Diesel/Petrol punk because of how nitty gritty it is..Madmax and Death Race is what got me into Diesel and Petrolpunk. Just something about building this loud, obnoxious, badass looking custom vehicle that spews black, rolling coal smoke is just something epic.

Well sort of a half-example but I like Post-Cyberpunk. All of the nifty advances of the gadgets, Hell sometimes even more advanced and much more user friendly than the pre-Apple predictions, without all of that quite childish fatalistic "fight the system" rebelliousness that always annoyed me about the genre. In post-Cyberpunk, the protagonist is a contributing part of society while working to correct problems from within rather than burn it all to the ground.

If we're talking more distinct I would say Sandal Punk would be pretty cool. (Hi-tech Bronze age.) Imagine a world where a full scale Saqqara bird carried the Pharaoh and his emissary from Egypt the Rhodes, where the great Colossus stands with its pilots ready to thrust its tower-sized spear into the water should any attacking fleets approach.

There is always Diselpunk which takes place sometime during the 1920's to 1940.

Which I find to be fascinating due to the Roaring 20's being a period of history that I find to be rather interesting.

A good example of this setting would come from the Legend of Korra.

How about Cardboard Punk? If that's not a thing it should be.

That's a step lower than "ghetto punk"

I love all punk styles though. They're beautiful
