Anyone here classically trained musically?

I am (and am kind of a nerd when it comes to classical music LOL). I've meet quite a few Bronies online that are. It isn't surprising in the least with the music that this fandom produces, even outside of the techno-stuff.

Feld0 may be. IIRC he has made piano skills.

My wife is a legitimate crazy person when it comes to music. She did her dissertation on musical therapy in a clinical setting. She was 1st chair Tri-State and some other accolades. It's sad to say that I didn't pay close attention to this part of her life while we were in high school.

Though, her skills with the clarinet, sax, piano, guitar, and composition ... wow.

I love playing brass instruments, I've played and have been proficient in just about all of them. Being in an orchestral environment is really fun.

I play upright bass in my county's local symphony orchestra and formerly played cello and upright in my high school's orchestra. I'd say that holds up for something in classical music, though admittedly i'm mostly self taught. All my knowledge of classical music and music theory comes from piano lessons i took as a kid.

I think you could say so. I've been playing orchestral instruments since 6th grade (20 years ago... Yikes). I have had private lessons on trumpet, clarinet, bassoon, and oboe. I have a Bachelor's degree in music now, too.

With that said, don't think that means I'm any good. I'm really not.

I was, but I'm slowly losing interest in that kind of stuff. I loved concert and symphonic band in school, but without that opportunity I don't really play instruments anymore. I think my friends were also a big part of it, because even though I did still really enjoy band in college, it felt like it was missing an important part.

I love all kinds of music and want to explore all of it that I can but I think with classical music I'd prefer to learn through experience, like compose a song for a variety of instruments and then teach myself to play it, and keep making more and more complex songs that way. I've been thinking about doing that for a while but I have little motivation lately.
