tartarus's origins

so, here's a question: what would you like the origins of tartarus to be? would you prefer for it to be fairly mundane and just set up as a prison by celestia/the unicorns of canterlot/ect simply to have a strong prison as a matter of course, or would you prefer it to have originally been created for a specific prisoner/group of prisoners in mind and there's a group of "prisoner zeros" inside it that it was tailored for?

Do you have any headcanons for it?

If it were ever defined further, I'd like it to take much inspiration from the Tartarus spoken in human legends. A pleace that's existed for longer than any alicorn. A place of great unweildy magic that seems to exist solely for the most evil of beings, and yet with origins lost to time.

I'm sure it's existed long before ponies, though the alicorns of ancient times may have built the prison there.  If they were to develop it, I'd like it to loosely follow Greek mythology.

Dat's really very interesting place. I see it like strongly protected place or even another dimmention which existed before. Just 

aunt Celestia (maybe other rullers as well) found that it's convenient to keep there dangerous creatures in isolation.

 

By the way Celestia didn't place Nightmer Moon by some reason.

It’s basically a fairly large oubliette for ne’er-do-wells and scalawags that works exactly as plot demands it to. Might one day become an underground version of Crystal Empire ruled by some dark yet glittering pony nutjob who would fail miserably at emulating campiness of 80es’ villains. In my headcanon it was a former kingdom just like any other region in ancient Equestria. Without friendship, the kingdom fell into war and Celestia tried to plead with them but ultimately she had to banish the evil kingdom.

I could see it for the guardians of harmony toyline; sell it as a villain's lair set packed in with various villains the mane six have fought.
