Blushes and best friends. Something more?

People in the fandom seem to think that a pony blushing and repeatedly pointing out how they are "best friiiiiiends" means attraction and romantic feelings, but I have to wonder, since Flutters blushed at Maude in "Maude Pie", when they were in the forest together, does that mean Flutters in hot for Maude? Or just a blush of embarrassment? Pinkie repeatedly stresses how she and Maude are "best friends", much like Lyra and Bon Bon, who have a ritual of making best friend rock candy necklaces, so are Pinkie and Maude in an incestual relationship, or are they truly just best friends? Twilight and her friends sing about how they're all "very best friends" with each episode opening, so are they all in some same sex relationship with each other, like people seem to see Lyra and Bon Bon in, for saying they're best friends a couple times?

Pinkie and Maud are sister...

Nope, although it is exaggerated this "best friend" squeals, I dare not to think there's more.

and Big Mac and Marble are cousins. Oh, by the way, Marble also blushes when being introduced to everyone in the Apple family, and when she's making her HWE doll. So yeahhhhh....

I'm pretty sure people only think that way about Bon-Bon and Lyra, because those two not only put emphasis on "Best friends", but they also give each other longing seductive stares all the darn time while saying it.

The pie family never have any visitors, not to mention they lived in a isolated area.  So Mable is just overall really shy or have social anxiety, like fluffershy.

Big Mac and Marble are DISTANT cousins, if even related at all. Remember, the Apple/Pie family connection was generations back, and has not been definitively proven. In the United States, and world wide, there are NO laws preventing marriage between second cousins. Big Mac and Marble are several "removes" past even something as close as a second cousin linking, with no increase in chances of reinforcing a bad or faulty gene. Genetically, they may as well be total strangers.

As for ponies blushing, that always bothers me. Ponies have hair on their faces, as well as over their bodies. You wouldn't see them blush. That is unless there is some bio-luminescent quality inherent to equestrian life forms. When I write of a pony displaying such an emotional clue, I always say something like...

"Her ears twitched in embarrassment."

I am not sure if things have changed in genetics recently, but upon last reading of various journals I don't recall any conclusive evidence on the genotype issues with distance relatives of fictional animated characters. Then again, the Winchester debate rages on so ... this one is probably going to get some peer reviewed traction soon.

All silliness aside, it depends on context for me. While I can nod at Cheerilee blushing at Big Mac as a possible acknowledgement of attraction, I'm not certain I would feel the same with say Maud and Marble.

We've also seen characters blushing at a scenario or general embarrassment and not another character, so ... it could be like normal life.

Blame the shippers that will ship ponies for just being in the same scene or just looking at each other in one glance. Shippers just want certain characters to like each other it's all in their mind. I questioned the validity of this blushing thing as well once and of course it's nothing to do with them having hots for one another. So it's more of a shipper's trap that happens when they think it's something else.
