Will the show ever have canon lesbians?

Yeah, Aurora Glimmer was her original name, but they couldn't use it because of copyright issues.

I looked it up that's the name of the princesses from Sleeping Beauty. Though I prefer Starlight anyways. I think it fits better with the types of names that exist in MLP. I say that because I can't think of a character that has a real name. Maybe coloratura. I mean that's not really a name. But maybe some opera singers might name there daughter that in real life.

This threads getting a bit out of hand :P

I think that Sexuality is a theme that MLP as a children's show, isn't going to be brought up. Other Shows Such as the legend of Cora, have a Higher TV rating, and an older target audience, and therefore have themes that are more appropriate.

Although Same Sex relationships might be alluded too, or just "occur" without any pointing out. It's not something that a children's show with. the target audience of young children would be addressing directly.

As with the allegations of Homophobia, I'm sure that the writers of MLP and the users on the forum are thinking with the show in mind and not trying to be homophobic

Not necessarily the mane six. But just background ponies also. I know they teased it with Lyra and Bonbon in Slice Of Life but I'm talking about official lesbians.

If they're background characters, would it even matter?  Also, I wouldn't say there was a "tease".  They said outright they were "best friends".

No I can understand what your saying.

Its called sub text. Granted that only something you'd observe if your a teenager or an adult.

Maybe they're friends with benefits?  :orly:

Since Slice Of Life Lyra and Bonbon have always been a bit to touchy. They locked arms with each other while playing the piano in Rainbow Rocks.

I've only started watching that show. So not sure what this means. Regardless I do think you can handle it in a way so it's still appropriate for kids.

Really?  In a show aimed at kids?  Besides, sub-text is just another word for interpretation.

The closest I personally hope they ever get to that is the obvious Lyra and Bonbon in conjunction with Queen's "You're My Best Friend" song.
I sincerely doubt they would ever come out and say it blatantly in canon, cause if they did a fair number of people would be peeved.
Enough so that it would hurt toy sales, which glorious-leader Hasbro would never allow. lol

  • 2 weeks later...

Not only is adding homosexual characters a rough patch by a controversy standpoint, it's also not a very good idea business wise, because it runs the risk of getting their product heavily censored or outright banned in certain countries, because currently in a total of 73 countries, homosexuality is outright ILLEGAL.

I never said mlp had sub text. But there are kids shows that do.

I can understand that. Money is Hasbros ultimate end game. So if it came between lesbians and a profit they'd choose to make a profit.

Characters like Steven Magnets are already censored. I know in middle eastern countries they give him a female voice actor.
