Will the show ever have canon lesbians?

Kora, SU, and Loud House have a different target demographic than FiM according to the people who produce the show. I wouldn't mind it, but I think very subtle hints are all we are going to get (Lyra and Bon Bon).

What about Vinyl and Octavia? They live together in a fully customized house designed to match both of their personalities.

That's a little complex for just roommates. So I think it's safe to say that it was implied for them to be lesbians as well.

And yet their house was split down the middle, a bit like roommates.

Honestly, it's easy to ship any two characters who interact with each other, and just because the two share a house doesn't mean they're in a relationship.  Could they be subtle lesbian couple?  The possibility always exists, but I have no reason to believe that so far.

I would like for you to point out the part where I said I was either Christian or Homophobic.

I guess humor doesn't exist. Also do you hate gays?

Yeah exactly what I thought.

Not necessarily the mane six. But just background ponies also. I know they teased it with Lyra and Bonbon in Slice Of Life but I'm talking about official lesbians.

Apart of those two, we also got this tidbit with Octavia and Vinyl

I don't think they'll get any more explicit than they did in Slice of Life with Lyra and Bon Bon and Vinyl and Octavia, although those two pairs are pretty much canon due to how they hinted it. It would be fun if they did go that route though. Maybe something like Starlight/Trixie? Any of my other ships would be fine too, obviously.

Cannon lesbians would be cool though. Would that involve Pinkie and her party cannon? ...I'm sorry, I just have this pathological need to make a remark like this every time I see canon spelled as cannon. Please don't take it seriously.

Look as much as I want a long on screen kiss between Rarity and Applejack you know anything like that would cause massive drama in the fandom since their main characters and people ship them every which way, even if they DID do some openly LGBT couple it it'd be among side characters

Does the show NEED a gay pairing? No.

Do I care whether or not it gets one(or several)? Nope.

But IF they were ever to have one, it would need to be it's own arc. Diversity for the sake of diversity is just as problematic and ignorant as outright exclusion. It becomes false awareness and these bandwagons can seriously hurt the cause.

Ideally, you'd want focus on the relationship, and explanation as to why it's there. Same-sex relationships are still very much a controversial topic, and just throwing in a gay couple and saying "Hey have some gays, they exist so put up with it!" isn't actually helping explain the importance of the cause.

That in lies your catch 22, due to this show being what it is. Such a topic is too controversial at this time, and doesn't appeal to the target demographic enough. The problems caused won't be able to outweigh the potential benefits.

Shoehorning it in will just damage the franchise as a whole.

Considering how a bunch of mothers and other people who couldn't see the difference between reality and a fictional cartoon horse blew a gasket big enough to get Derpy's name canonically removed from the series and replaced with a bad substitute...I doubt it but we can only hope they get that brave.

It won't happen though I wish it would. I think the important thing here is a blatant and shoe-horned homosexual relationship vs a natural one. For example, it's very natural in some shows the way a man will say at a christmas episode about bringing his boyfriend over for dinner, and I think that's a good way, because it doesn't abnormalise it trying to normalise it and draw attention to it, but just slips it in as a regular event instead.

Which would be opposed to what some shippers want, which is some tongue action and practically putting up a neon sign that says LESBIANS HERE!

finally someone that gets it

now tell me you hate Steven Suckniverse and everything will be complete.

Prime time adult show, no problem. I doubt anyone would even question it. This is a TVY cartoon.  That is WAY past what they can do & keep that rating.

So the depiction of a homosexual relationship is somehow more "adult" than the depiction of a heterosexual relationship (which we've already seen in-show)?  If a straight relationship doesn't shift the TVY rating, a gay one shouldn't either.

There is no reason to have homosexual characters except for unnecessary controversy

One could also ask: What the hell's the point to heterosexual relationships in-show?

Here's what some of you are missing, here: A homosexual relationship is no less and no more valid than a heterosexual relationship; nor does it have to be depicted any more explicitly than heterosexual relationships have been thus far in MLP:FIM.  The only thing really keeping them out of the show is parents with sticks up their respective asses; people who would cry foul the moment a "non-traditional" relationship was acknowledged in CANON.

Because shippers will ship and there are people petty enough to demand that the show should validate it.

Not especially relevant within the context of the topic; particularly if MLP:FIM's first homosexual relationship were to involve two never-before-seen ponies.  Besides: What you said could also be applied to heterosexual ships.  Some people are fine with hetero ships and balk at homosexual pairings; seemingly for no other reason than, "That pony absolutely CAN'T be gay."  Admittedly, when I shipped (which I've not done in earnest for a long time), I favored lesbian couples.  Because I prefer lesbian couples.

All that being said...  It doesn't seem likely that it'll happen.  I say this because there's still some degree of aversion to homosexual pairings in children's programming.  Which I personally think is stupid.  I don't think homosexual relationships should be treated any differently than heterosexual relationships, but the former is relatively taboo (oooOoo, spooky ghost) or envelope-pushing.  There are individuals who continue to mistake homosexuality for a moral issue.  I wouldn't necessarily mind if ALL relationships, gay or straight, were left out of the series altogether, but hetero relationships have already received a certain amount of focus.  Meaning the only reason gay relationships haven't is, well, all the crap I just went over.

I think the important thing here is a blatant and shoe-horned homosexual relationship vs a natural one.

How long will this endure as an excuse to exclude, though?  Are HETERO relationships handled subtly in children's programming?  Cadance and Shining Armor Hot Dogs was shoe-horned into the series out of absolutely nowhere.  The first homosexual relationship in a children's program is gonna be noticed, no matter HOW it's handled.  There are people who will still flip out at the relatively subtle scenario you proposed, and there are people who will cry "shoe-horning" ANYWAY.  Can't someone just pop the damned cork already?  Can Steven Magnet just have a boyfriend, please?  Can we just take an already blatant homosexual stereotype and let him have a sea serpent beau?  I know he has one, off-screen.

More like it's something that's shoved down my throat and it's more of a stereotype of what straight guys want.

I'd be fine with a male / male pairing or female / female pairing, and I don't care if it's given an entire episode or a mere mention.  I don't ship, and I don't want to see every - or necessarily any - ship in the fandom made canon.  I don't need anything validated; I just think it's ridiculous that it's still an issue in this day and age.

It's not an excuse to exclude, and you're right that a homosexual relationship shouldn't be more "adult". But there are a lot of problems in the way the relationships have been presented that will turn people off to changing their minds anyway. I really don't want to see anyone kiss on TV unless it's for a good reason, if it's two men doing that it's going to naturally turn more people off because of the conditioning they have to associate what they see now with porn or what have you. Right thing? No. But that's how it is and you should work around that. You won't change people's minds by turning them off by just throwing these things in to make them like it. I know people can do the same thing with a heterosexual relationship and no one thinks of it like this but one is stigmatised, and the other isn't, and so the degree of exposure brings about different feelings on the intent.

I mean this isn't the only time I've disagreed with people who I otherwise share a goal with. I support freeing the nipple but not #FreeTheNipple because going to town squares, ripping off your top, and demanding national coverage will just attract perverts, creeps, and make it a spectacle, just making the entire case worse for everyone.

Yeah lesbians won't happen.

I am always down for inclusion but I don't see this happening as Hasbro most likely doesn't want to piss off all of the close minded parents that would buy merchandise and toys for their kids.

Yeah it probably won't ever happen.

Yeah but most shipping is for fun.

'Eventually they just decided to "Go for it" and make it a Brony episode. '

http://www.equestriadaily.com/2015/06/ma-larson-reveals-all-sorts-of-fun.html

so the shipping was indeed shipping and for bronies, thus their interpretation of the shipping is correct. At least for that episode anyways lol.

Well I didn't know about that.
