Who should Mario move over too?

I remember having that game bought, i think it might have been the last PS1 game i had bought, or well my dad bought it for me. Its actually on PS Store for sale which is suprising since i didn't know it was that popular type of game.

Whether this is true or not... It would be kinda fun if it was

This only was on PS1 cover, because from this IGN article this was ready to ship in terms of the n64 cartridges, but i think it sold poorly and was the reason why they didn't sell it as an N64 port.

As much as I think Nintendo is pretty overrated these days, I will never deny that the Mario games are pretty much the king of platforming genre. Most of the Mario games are pure, classic fun.

Instant classic on Super Nintendo.

Maybe the creators of 40 Winks was afraid that it would turn into a game series to be milked. So when they saw that review they scrapped it and just went with Playstation to never make more games after that.

Wait, what exactly would have prevented them from not making more games working with Nintendo?

Eh i was wrong but i just made a theory that since they dont wanna milk the series then they decided to scrap the N64 version due to the review saying "Move over Mario" as if working with Nintendo or something.

But either way this is corrected by that it likely didn't sell so well on PS1 so they didn't sell the N64 version even though it was all ready to be shipped which is why they got the review from nintendo official magazine because it was originally going to be on both PS1 and N64

Banjo Kazooie was an amazing game. I mean Mario is great but banjo kazooie. WOW. I think that's the only platformer I have played that's better. In terms of response and fame, Mario wasn't moved at all, but in terms of actual game quality Mario got shoved! And the development team for Banjo Kazooie is now working on another modern game called Yuka Laylee

But honestly it might only shift Mario a little bit, because the Mario games are still really good.

The original Banjo and Kazooie titles are the only games that can Mario a run for its money. There are plenty of great platforming franchises like Crash, Spyro, Klonoa, Rayman, etc. But Mario is still the king of its genre

Never liked Banjo Kazooie, it feels too countryside for my taste. I had to play it with a friend as a kid, he owned both 1 and 2nd game, we played it on multiplayer often and i never enjoyed it as much as he did i bet. But i am overly critical, for people who owned a N64 and didnt have a PS1 i am sure it was fun to come home too and play after doing homework.

Given the utter blandness of the Mario platforming series nowadays, I don't think it would take much at all to make a more refreshing platformer.

In fact, sadly, pretty much *every* Mario series has fallen to blandness (or mediocrity). Mario Kart is really the only one that's even fun to me anymore, and even so.. looking at the Switch version, I have no reason to even get it. I miss the days when the Paper Mario series was excellent (honestly, I enjoy the N64 and GCN Paper Mario much more than pretty much any other RPG ever) and when Nintendo had to come up with a brand new theme for each and every Mario platformer. Now we have New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario 3D Land/World (A.K.A the "New Super Mario Bros." of the 3D Mario series.). There is little variety there. Every NSMB game looks the same, and Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D Land/World are both essentially 2D platformers, just with fancy 3D graphics and a little bit of running room.

Mario has become very bland. But I propose instead of Mario stepping aside, Nintendo needs to be kicked into gear and bring the Mario series' back to their former greatness. Yet I doubt they will. I bet they're raking in the cash with these mediocre, more of the same titles. What's the point of actually putting in your heart when you're a business and the games are selling enough? *sigh*

At least I hope the Wii U Paper Mario blew up in their face. I doubt it will make any difference, as they'll blame it on the console's lack of success and not the path they've taken.
