Tilgoreth 1,915 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 This doesn't make sense. After G4 ends it will be at least three years before G5. By that time the fandom would have already died naturally. But G5 doesn't guarantee a revival. Keep in mind most people aren't fans of mlp. There fans of FiM. G4 is what made bronies a thing. Not mlp in general. There's no guarantee G5 will be anything like G4. It could be anything. And it might be bad. 2 Signature made by Kyoshi.
Spider Man 187 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 Natural business decision to attach themselves to what works. To ask that question is almost to ask "Why do you people keep watching star wars films? What if the next one is different?" - the idea in practice is that media is a business and they know what works and what doesn't, we could anticipate G5 being even better than G4 assuming they're able to improve upon the more lackluster aspects while bringing something new to the table I.E. artstyle, character design, voice work etc. You're right though, we don't know if it will be good, but to assume the fandom would die out is to assume it will be bad which is equally unlikely. 6 The AMAZING Spider-Man
Ganondorf8 11,706 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 The fandom will keep on going no matter what happens. MLP Generation Four has proven to be a huge success that no one, not even Hasbro themselves, had anticipated, and that's something that can never be taken away even if the decision is made to make a new generation. There's no way of knowing how well it would be received since it hasn't happened yet, and while some fans are likely to leave the fandom, others may be willing to see what a fifth generation might be about just to test the waters.
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,202 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 Are you *sure* the fandom will just die off like that? I don't think it is that simple. I mean, sure, if everyone in the fandom treated this show like some sort of fad, then yeah, that would obviously happen, but there are a lot of people that take a lot of pride in the show and the fandom overall. That would carry over to G5, provided G5 was good of course. Even if it wasn't good, the fandom would still live on. Just because it isn't has huge as its peak doesn't mean it will simply fade away. 10 Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell. But some people think that G5 will prolong the life of the fandom. That just doesn't make sense to me. Besides if not enough people like G5 then nobody will other to create new content. Java Jive 440 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 Que sera. If it survives, good on the fans, if it doesn't... That's that. But i've seen some obscure fanbases survive for far longer amounts of time without less material to work with, in an age where easily accessible internet was a new thing in the early/mid 90's. In these days, the artistical side of the MLP fanbase alone generates more than enough to go on for several years. At the very least, some aspects of it will survive. And it has grown bigger and more influential than i initially thought it would. I'm seeing it sticking around for quite some time. If G5 eventually shows up and becomes a sequel/prequel of some sorts, they just go where it left off. The current formula of the show works well enough to keep making stories for... And i don't see them changing course that much. They didn't even expect they would go past the first 3 seasons, now we're already approaching 7. Something kept people coming back for more. Part of it is it's limitless storytelling potential in a vibrant anything-goes world. 5 Let's go downtown.

trademark2 485 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 (edited) If this were true, then there would be no Star Trek fandom, no Star Wars fandom, and no Dr. Who fandom. All of those have ended, or gone to new generations. AND THEY ARE STILL AROUND. fandoms don't die so easily! I just got into this fandom and get annoyed at people saying its dying. I don't think it is. I know that right now, this fandom is on an upward trend, not a downward one. Peaks and valleys, but right now its upward Edited January 3, 2017 by trademark2 7 Feel free to message or add me everypony!
Thrond 3,271 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 What do you mean by "the fandom will die?" It's not like people will stop being fans, and there's live fandoms for things which have been dormant for a good while now. Furthermore, more people could be discovering the show at any moment, growing the fanbase, and when G4 is available in full on streaming platforms with no need to keep up with it, it'll be easier than ever for people to be in the know. If you mean content and conventions will die out - well, there's an extent to which that could be true, but again, content creation often tends to significantly outlast the source material, and while there will possibly be fewer big conventions, I'm not convinced they'd die out entirely, especially since a lot of people with a much more passing interest in MLP use them to meet up with online friends more than to engage in whatever pony shenanigans conventions have set up. Finally (though I might be wrong here), considering how brand-name comics tend to work, there's a chance that G4 might just not end at all in that medium. Aren't early incarnations of Sonic the Hedgehog and Transformers still going in that medium?
Ganondorf8 11,706 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 Yes but in the intermediate time the fandom will die. The brony fandom thrives on new material. There's only so long after G4 ends that brownies will still create original content. Many shows have ended but the fans continue to support them because it's something they choose to dedicate themselves to doing even when it does seem like a pointless notion. The brony fandom won't die pure and simple. Sure, many will move on of their own volition, yet others will continue on and embrace it through its ascension to cult status. You need to give people more credit when it comes to this kind of thing.
Foxy Socks 2,603 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 (edited) The fandom would not just die out after the show. If that were true there would be no activity here amd it would have died off long before. I do not know what iy it will be like if there is a G5, but I don't like to speculate early, since this one isn't even done yet. GrimGrimoire 4,973 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 Even if the show stops, most likely the comic will continue for quite a while, and I am sure many fans will keep their own original content going. The G4 version of the fandom will be around for a long while with or with G5. And just as G4 is causing some to go back and explore G1-3, so to I imagine G5 will have many exploring what came before. I would imagine though that G5 will be much different that G4. Hasbro loves to try and fix what isn't broken. 2 ~No profound statement needed~

Color Song 65 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 Because they are loyal to the show and so they assume others to be as well? Honestly, I'd give it a chance. I wasn't a fan of Gen1 or 2, and I never did see 3 or 3.5, but now that I'm a believer that friendship is indeed magic, I would watch the next generation and give it a fair chance. 1 Be sure you are the one holding the pen when writing your life's story. Still not sure why, it was like eating potato chips.

Flutter's lover <3 8,210 January 2, 2017 Share January 2, 2017 (edited) Those that are actually passionate about the show they watch and those that are just die hard fans of the show itself and the art and other things that get released, the fandom will continue to live on. Sure some may leave the fandom, but that isn't to say new people will not join it.There will always be people coming and going. Hell, the Sherlock fandom is still waiting on their 3rd Season, us Whovians have gone without a new season for a whole year(and again between classic and new Who), same goes for Rick and Morty fans, we've been waiting on a 3rd season. Hell, Futurama got cancelled but there's still a fandom based around it, along with merchandise to go with it. A TV show may die, but the fandom will carry on. Those that are actually passionate of the show they watch, the fandom will continue to live on. MLP has become something of pop culture so it's also got that to go on as well. and if you're a die hard fan of a series, you'll probably give the new generation of show a chance.
