Plonkett 345 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 (edited) Knowing that the movie was animated with Toon Boom Harmony, the industry standard for 2d animation software. What if the movie was instead 3d animated, being done with a program like Autodesk Maya? How do you think that would look? It's a thousand times more professional than SFM. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,597 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 Don't get me wrong, that 3D animation actually doesn't look bad, but I feel this show lives by its 2D nature. That is essentially a backbone of the show. Its overall art style is something that we are completely accustomed to and completely changing the animation entirely would seem a tad alienating.

Megas 27,690 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 I wouldn't like, I'm sure they'd find a way to make it work, but changing animation styles completely like that(as opposed to improving it like the movie is currently doing), would be a jarring decision, and probably a big turn off for some people
Plonkett 345 February 27, 2017 Author Share February 27, 2017 IMO, CreatorOfPony has the best 3D Ponies. CoP uses Blender, a free and open source program. Maya on the other hand, is far more professional and is the industry standard in 3d animation.
weesh 690 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 3d ponies look horrifying.lifeless and creepy. if they figure out how to fix this problem, I'd be ok with it, but everything I've seen so far has been awful. 2 Send me pictures of ponies in hoodies
digit112 89 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 For obvious reasons, I think it'd be pretty cool to see a professionally made 3D pony animation, but it'd be pretty weird and probably to expensive to just make a sudden switch like that. I know alot of people wouldn't like that change, so I doubt it'll ever happen.
DEEcat98 5 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 (edited) A CGI MLP movie would be cool! Maybe if they were to make direct to video movies based on MLP: FIM, they can be in CGI. Edited February 27, 2017 by DEEcat98
ShadOBabe 18,997 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 (edited) There's nothing wrong with 3D animation, but it's not the be-all-end-all. The characters of MLP were NOT designed with any kind of 3D sensibilities in mind. It does not suit them and I think it would be a horrid decision aesthetically. TheAnimatorOfficial 567 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 Well other girl cartoons got their own fully computer animated direct to video movies. So why not MLP? Because MLP has standards. And it uses the term "girl cartoon" loosely.
ShadOBabe 18,997 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 Well other girl cartoons got their own fully computer animated direct to video movies. So why not MLP? Because it would be unnecessary, ugly, and jarring. What "other girl cartoons" are you referring to exactly? What if they did a live action movie with real ponies? God, I missed you while I was gone. cmarston1 5,959 February 27, 2017 Share February 27, 2017 For the most part whenever 3d version of FIM characters are made they look pretty bad, so it wouldn't be a good idea. Plus if it were to look like how you suggested with that video, it would still be a quite jarring change to the show's aesthetic.
Plonkett 345 February 27, 2017 Author Share February 27, 2017 (edited) 3d ponies look horrifying. lifeless and creepy. if they figure out how to fix this problem, I'd be ok with it, but everything I've seen so far has been awful. It all depends on the budget and talent. With the right people, you could have animation that rivals Pixar, Disney, DreamWorks, Blue Sky, and Sony. ShadOBabe 18,997 February 28, 2017 Share February 28, 2017 Example of girl cartoons that did get CGI direct to video movies is Care Bears. I looked up "Care Bears 3D animation*. The results looked pretty bad. Most 3D animation that isn't a Hollywood production looks pretty bad, if I'm honest. And even some big productions look bad. DEEcat98 5 February 28, 2017 Share February 28, 2017 I actually saw The Big Wish Movie and Oopsy Does it when I was little on Youtube and I did not think they were that bad. Although Oopsy Does it has a little more better animation quality than the previous one I mentioned.
Plonkett 345 February 28, 2017 Author Share February 28, 2017 (edited) Also, on top of Maya, other programs like 3ds Max, Zbrush, Renderman, Modo, Nuke, SpeedTree, Vue, etc would be used. DEEcat98 5 February 28, 2017 Share February 28, 2017 Ok that I can agree on. Although sometimes stuff with bad animation or not well made animation does not mean it is really bad.
